I'll will be getting a 5.0 explorer intake manifold on 9/5/07. I'm just asking if anybody know how much horsepower gain if I port n polish the intake manifold how helpful is this parts for this car. I run low 15's how many tenths will be dropped of my goal is atleast a 14.7 or better.

I agree with Primer. I think if that's the only thing you are doing, then going to track it again, pat yourself on the back if you pull a 14.7 or 14.8. Let us know.

How much HP does it add? As a general rule 10whp is good for .1 seconds in the 1/4.

I read a article on the 5.0explorer intake manifold. One thing the article said in a dyno test it flow as good or better than the 93cobra's. The horsepower gain was 15hp with the stock TB, More with 65mm. So for redline theirs your answer. I probably go to the track next week. if hopefully I run in the 14's. I'll keep ya'll posted.

I thought about that but I'm on a budget so that might be a bit. I really want 3:73 gears I read they can take up to 5tenths off your 1/4 mile.

I would defiantly do gears over an intake. How much time you will take off really depends on what kinda car ect. and what were the old gears in the car. I went from 2.41s to 3.73s and lost almost a second. I think you will have no problem running 14.7s if you put gears in it.

If I'm not mistaken the Explorer manifold will need some modification before you "bolt and go". Almost positive you've gotta tap a line for something....

But 4 mr intercooled T I'm not to sure but I think I read something about 97-up explorer intake have a external egr something like the Sn95 do also. I'm not 100% on that. But if you figure it out please let me know. I think my Stock gears are 2:73.

Well I never said you had to do it now, but for your next mod, instead of getting something for the motor or trans, why not get something for handling?? I mean I drove your car, its quick, and klidi raced me...considerably quicker than mine considering he wasnt "even pushing it" as he said..I duno I always liked cars that are balanced for power and handling. I never pushed your car in the twists, so I dont know, but I cant imagine it to be too much better than mine in that respect, if at all

put 4.10s in. no worth changing the intake unless you went w/ trickflow or holley.

If you still daily drive it and do a decent amount of highway driving do 3.73s. You'll get more out of 4.10s, but I'm going with 3.73s. They will be delivered real soon. I would go with a rebuild kit for the rear too if I were you, especially if you have over 70k miles on it. And of course you're going to have to recalibrate the speedometer.

3.73 if its stick 4.10s if auto if you still want a good daily driver. As for the intake i would do it if you can get it for like 200 bucks otherwise save up for something better gears would deff be a first though. They are a little pricy to be installed though, or if your pretty handy in the garage you could do yours yourself, i did mine and it wasnt bad at all

I got the intake manifold for 185. I goin to done it because I read that the stock intake is pretty resrictive. I got 80,000 miles on my car and winter is coming up so I more than likely get the 3:73 gears next year also lookin forward to get a Vortech or Tubro kit. Need body know how good the ebay tubro kit is.
