It's pretty easy as long as you have the right tools, 14mm deep socket wrench and cresent, 17mm socket wrench and crescent, and i think like 12mm for the brake line bolts. you may need other bolts if you strip something. do you need to change springs or are they already on the struts.

need a spring compressor. if your asking how to do it then i really suggest that you dont attempt it yourself.

+1 Although I have a Saturn, it's pretty much the same steps. I did have one, but it was faster not to use it  Didn't need to use it to put the Spring/Struts back on either.

yeah myself, on sale and 03civichatch did my springs, took 2 seperate days.. the fronts alone took like 4 hours because of some slight problems, but other than that it wasn't that hard

ON that car, they should be very easy. You will need a spring compressor to take them off, but to put the lowering on it, you probably can do it by hand.

Since the car is old, the biggest problem will be siezed bolts which will require PB Blaster, a propane torch, and a big ratchet with a pipe on it to remove.

Better hope that its seized enough that the heat from a propane torch isn't hot enough to expand the bolt for removal. If you can't get it off with that and a oxyacetylene torch is needed then I'd say take it to a shop.

I don't quite understand how people do this without a springs compressor.

depends on how compressed the stock spring is when you take the strut out, and how coiled the new one is...sometimes if they are the "right" kind they wont even decompress when you remove the tophat

i did it once before i really knew what i was doing. now i look back and realize how unsafe it was. i would never do it again. if you do it wrong it can SERIOUSLY hurt you. but do whatever.

here ya go. This is on a 5th gen but it's pretty much the same. Go get a can of PB blaster too. And maybe someone to help you. http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fifth-springs/fifth-springs.shtml

basically there is no reason to do it without a spring compressor...go to advance auto parts, rent one, return it, and you get 100% of your money back. Simple, safe, and free

On my first car which was a Olds Alero, me and my brother put a set of springs on it without a spring compressor without a problem.

to answer this question, on old cars the springs are weak so they dont "pop" the same as if you did it on a new car without a compressor. i have done a few sets without a spring compressor but i would definately recomend renting the spring compressor. its like 40.00 to reant and if the stores around you are like the ones around me you get all 40.00 back when you return the spring compressor/ any tool you rent. the 40.00 is just to ensure you bring their ish back.
