How reliable are they? I could possibly get one with 70k miles for $8000 in pretty nice condition. 5 speed manual with new paint, body kit and aftermarket wheels. I don't know how reliable they are. It says it is the base model, so I don't know what engine that is and if its even worth it.

they are good cars, but i hear that the valve seals go on them all the time and end up burning a lot of oil
Base models are slow as ****. VR4 or bust. As for reliability, haha. 1/2 of 3si's cars are broken down.

The SOHC engine is a beast and will never die. Just regular maintenance like any other car and that engine will last well over 200k miles. I have a 97 base with 158k miles and a 93 base stealth with 202k miles on them. They both run like champs with no major issues.
Body kit on a 3000GT? Why do people do that? Especially on a 99 3000gt. So sad.

actually 99 is the best motor of the 2nd gen 3kgts.. they fixed the bad lifters in it i believe also.. if its a SOHC dont bother i believe 161 hp and slow as balls.. if its a DOHC tho jump on it.. 222hp i believe.. heavy car but it still pulls.. i had a 94 base before my 93 vr4 and the base only had a cold air and full exhaust and i smoked most cars i went against... they are a pain to work on tho.

Sucks they put a kit on, don't suppose the guy has the original bumper? That year was by far the best looking for that car.

The lifters aren't neccesarily better, they just don't have the chatter of the old ones.
Hans is right, the single cams go forever, they are good engines, but you will only find that in the base model.
I have only owned a VR4 and ended up spinning a bearing at 96k, spinning bearings in 3/Ss is the equilavalent of crankwalk in a 2G DSM, it's too common and it's quite expensive for a rebuild or used engine.
Either way, I think I'd pass on this car since it has the body kit. Find a strong running 1st gen (preferably 93) VR4, put the 99 front end on it and be happy.

If its that red on with the black roof, don't do it. It used to be nice when it was stock with black wheels, but then he ruined it with the body kit and chrome wheels and spray painted roof.
