1. Overview
TriStateTuners.com is an online community for automotive enthusiasts in the tri-state area, stretching to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and Connecticut. It was opened to the public in January 2005, in hopes of organizing and uniting the automotive community in the Tri-State area in pursuit of knowledge, friendship, and general entertainment. The administrator and moderators are constantly working to keep TST running smoothly, and also improve upon the great community that we already have.
2. What can you expect from TriStateTuners.com?
TriStateTuners.com is probably a little different than other car forums you may be a part of. It is a place for any and all automotive enthusiasts to come together and share their appreciation for performance automobiles in general. Enter the forum with an open mind and friendly attitude, and at the end of the day you will be more informed and more appreciative of all sports cars—domestic or import; front, rear, or all wheel drive; naturally aspirated or forced induction.
3. What can you expect from the Admin and Moderators?
The admin and moderators on TriStateTuners.com are volunteers. We spend the free time we have monitoring the site make sure that everything is going as smoothly as possible. We are not machines, and we are not perfect. We uphold the established rules in an objective and impartial manner to the best of our abilities in order to keep a friendly and organized forum. If you have a problem with one of the moderators, please contact TROLL via PM or Email and he will be more than willing to listen to what you have to say. Please also note that the forum rules are subject to change without notice.
4. What does TriStateTuners.com expect from its members?
TriStateTuners.com is a great tri-state automotive resource and is completely free to use to all of its members. We only ask that you familiarize yourself with and follow the few simple rules that exist in order to keep the forum friendly, tasteful, and easy to navigate.
A. NO CURSING. This helps to maintain a tasteful environment on the forum, and we hope all of our members will be able to express themselves fully without cursing.
1. There is a swear filter in place to automatically censor all of the words considered to be offensive, and members are expected to let it do its job. You will not be warned for typing out a curse word as is and letting the filter censor it, however intentionally dodging the swear filter so that the word is shown is against the rules.
2. Photos with clearly legible curse words are not allowed. Videos with a limited amount of cursing may be allowed if it is deemed that their comedic or informational value outweighs the offensiveness of the content. If there is any offensive content in a link that a member posts, they are responsible for clearly putting “NWS” (Not Work Safe) in the title of the thread and around the link itself in the post.
B. NO EXPLICIT PHOTOS OR VIDEOS. Again, the goal here is to keep the forum attractive to any and all members: young or old, at work or home, conservative or not. If you are not sure whether the content you have is ok to post, please contact a moderator about it ahead of time. In some cases we will allow a photo or video that stretches the limits, but only if it is deemed that the comedic or informational value outweighs the offensiveness of the content. If there is any offensive content in a link that a member posts, they are responsible for clearly putting “NWS” (Not Work Safe) in the title of the thread and around the link itself in the post.
C. RESPECT ALL MEMBERS AT ALL TIMES. Historically, car forums have been cluttered with nonsense and drama which inhibits a friendly, fun, informative atmosphere. For this reason, it is essential that all members show respect to each other at all times on TriStateTuners.com. Communication across a computer can easily be misinterpreted and these misunderstandings can sometimes lead to a heated argument, usually over nothing. Making sure that your posts are friendly and respectful is a good way to avoid things like this. Please treat others how you would want to be treated and refrain from insulting another member or their car.
D. STAY ON TOPIC. It is vital to the organization of the forum that threads stay on topic. If you have something to say that doesn’t fit under the topic of a thread that has already been started, please feel free to start a new thread. This makes it much easier for others in the future to read a thread or search for a specific topic and easily find what they are looking for. A side comment here or there is not a problem, but for the good of the forum please make the effort to keep threads on topic.
There are only four rules listed above, and each member is expected to follow them. In some forums, there are additional forum-specific rules stickied at the top and they apply only to the forum they are posted in. If you are unsure of something, the best thing is to contact a moderator before posting it just to be safe. If you do break one of the above rules, you will be warned.
5. Warnings
A. The first offense will receive a warning via PM explaining what you did wrong and asking you not to do it again.. The second offense will result in another warning, and notification that this is your last chance. The third offense will result in the user being banned from the forum without warning. We feel that three chances is more than enough and can’t be spending all of our time on people who cant seem to follow the rules, so three strikes and you’re out, game over.
B. If it is decided that a members actions are offensive and a blatant disregard of the forums rules, then they may be banned immediately without any prior warnings. This generally only happens when people are purposely trying to start trouble and I doubt many who do this are surprised that they are no longer able to access the forum shortly after.
None of the moderators like giving warnings, so we would all prefer that everyone familiarize themselves with the rules and follow them. Self-moderation is the best method for both users and moderators, so please do your part.
C. If you feel that someone is breaking a rule, there is a “!” button at the bottom left of each post which will allow any member of the forum to “report a bad post” to all of the moderators. This is a sure way to have a post reviewed so please help us out and use this feature when necessary.
6. Using the forum
A. If you are new to the online forum environment, you should check out the FAQ page, which has a lot of useful information about how to use the many functions of the forum and get the most out of it. After reading this page you will have clear understanding of what you can and cannot do on the forum, what kind of functions are available, how to post pictures, etc. Just knowing how to use the forum will greatly enhance your experience with us and also save yourself a lot of time when you are looking for answers to your questions.
B. Whenever you have a question (especially technical questions) you should run a search on the particular topic before starting a new post. It is possible that the same question has already been answered in great detail, and it will be quicker and easier to search for the answer than start a new topic. If you find a similar enough topic and need more detailed answers, respond to that particular post for the fastest response. Some technical answers require a lot of time to post, and it is unreasonable to expect the same questions to be answered over and over again.
7. What are the responsibilities of forum moderators?
A. TriStateTuners.com moderators are active, knowledgeable, and trustworthy members who are willing to volunteer their time to help the forum stay afloat. They are just like any other member of the board, but they have the ability to edit, modify, open, close, and move threads in the forum that they are moderating. On top of that, they are the ones helping members with their questions, cleaning up the posts, and making sure the board is running smoothly. All moderators have gone through a certain level of training and aim to keep the forum running smoothly by enforcing the established rules. Moderators have the right and responsibility to take necessary action in the way they best see fit in order to follow the established forum rules.
B. If you feel mistreated or disagree with the actions taken by a moderator, please contact them privately via PM or email and let them know how you feel. All of the moderators are open to constructive criticisms and are expected to be courteous to everyone else on the board. Please make sure you have taken all things into consideration and send them any comments or questions in an appropriate tone of writing.
1. Name calling and criticisms without a proper justification is the last thing a moderator wants to see. When you are warned or banned you will be given a reason, and if you don’t feel that you deserve it you are more than welcome to sort things out with that particular moderator. Do not expect to get a good response from the moderators if you don’t show a good tone of voice. In other words, be nice to them and they will be nice to you too.
2. Without moderators, TriStateTuners.com would not be here for you to enjoy. Feel free to contact them and let them know how much you appreciate the role they play in making TriStateTuners.com what it is today.
