View Full Version : 1st Gen DSM Rear Strut/ Spring assembly removal Help

ok heres the deal, i remove the whole assembly off the car, i compressed the springs enought to loosen the middle bolt on top of the strut tower, as im loosening it, the whole rod (strut pole) tuens with the nut at the top, i tried vicce gripping the rod than turnin the bolt and nothing, is there a special way i have to do this to get the spring out of the strut? if you can help me ASAP i will apreciate it, i already did my 2 fronts, i only need the rear. thanks again. later vic

An impact gun is usually enough to break it loose. They also make rubber strapped oil filter wrenches that work great for this. It is a plastic handle with a rubber strap that you put around whatever you are working on. then the more the object tries to spin the tighter the rubber strap grips. I just saw a set of these in the Qmart yesterday actually.

so should i keep gripping the strut than turning the nut? thanks for the reply :cool:

Dont grip the strut with pliers or anything that might scratch or damage them. Just a word of advice.
