Is there anything out there i could buy to be able to touch up and re-apply the clear coat that came off of my car? if not, how much would you estimate a clear coat touch up at an autobody place would be. that or how much would a full midnight black paintjob over a new car run me?

I dont think there is a logical way to just spray clear over what is on the car since it is such old paint and most likely sun faded.

The price of the paintjob varies A LOT. Anywhere from like $400 and up. Id say around 2k if not more if you plan on showing. Daily driver, around $1500.

There are different qualities of paints/primers/clears that change the prices drastically.

well said.. there are way too many variables to know for sure. simply re clearing the car isn't really possible, you'd need a full paint job. the best thing to plan for is about 1500 for a basic re-spray

what kind of car is this for? if it's anything worth any kind of money you'd be foolish not to get the adjoining panels blended. when you paint just the hood without blending the fenders or bumper, it's called a butt-match. it's extremely difficult to perfectly butt match adjoining panels, because absolutely NO paint chip is completely accurate. that's why they get blended. even the slightest variance will look like a night and day difference when you're out in the sunlight.

now, if this is on somewhat of a beater, then yeah go for it.. keep touching up and/or tell the shop that you simply don't care about blend panels. anyone will do that for you, you just have to tell them that you don't care about a 100% perfect match. tell them you can live with a 95% match. they'll know what you're talking about and will definitely help you out.
