since my 615s are now bald, and i will be puttin the "winter" tires on soon, its time to start thinking about next summers tires....

stick with my current pavement peeling setup...
Falken Azenis Rt615
255/40 18

or try the
Bridgestone Potenza RE01 R
245/40 18

price is about the same so i dont care. anything up to 250 a tire is fine....i considered potenzas 255 but they are only in 35 aspect ratio so thats a no go

Why is a 255/35 a no go?

255/40 is a ****in beast, too tall. YUCK!

How about some 255/35 Toyo R888's? They're soo sick! That's what im running only because I got them for free and they're the closest I can get to the Advan A048's.

and btw, the r compounds will destroy the azenis any day, but the tread wear is also 2x as fast. lol

I have the re01-r in the rears right now and I like them so far. As far as I know they are a street tire and I think they are rated at 160 or something like that. I'm just waiting for my old front tires to wear down some so I can run them up front.

i am 99% sure they are not considered an R compound, mainly because of the tread they have, im trying to find some more info.

edit: heres the info from tirerack

The Potenza RE-01R (with the "R" signifying Revolutionary) is the Extreme Performance Summer tire member of Bridgestone's global family of Potenza performance tires developed for enthusiastic sports car, sports coupe and performance sedan drivers. The Potenza RE-01R is designed to provide high levels of traction, responsive handling and driving control in dry and wet road conditions. The Potenza RE-01R is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

The Potenza RE-01R molds a soft tread compound featuring a superior wear resistance polymer to improve both wet and dry grip while contributing to wear and durability. Semi-Slick shoulder blocks and a wide center rib enhance initial responsiveness, provide more surface contact and fortify lateral stiffness to reduce the irregular wear that can occur during hard cornering. Two wide, straight circumferential grooves with Hydro Evacuation Surface (H.E.S.) walls and multiple directionally aligned lateral grooves increase water evacuation to resist hydroplaning and enhance wet traction while Bridgestone's Racing Slit Technology born from F1 wet tire development, improves surface contact in wet conditions. The tire's structure includes two wide steel belts reinforced by spirally wound nylon to provide strength and uniform ride quality and high-speed capability while the sidewalls are reinforced by steel cord that helps resist lateral deflection providing responsive handling and cornering stability.

excerpt-
“For many years, the sport compact and performance communities in Japan have come to rely and depend on the technology of the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R, the successor to the popular Potenza RE-01™,” said Phil Pacsi, executive director, North American Consumer Tire Brand Marketing, BFNT. “Based on an overwhelming interest by enthusiasts in the Japanese market and the tires’ success there, we are bringing that technology to North America. The Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R is a street tire for sports driving. Whether on the highway, on a straightaway, in an autocross corner or sliding through a drift course, we are confident this tire will exceed expectations.”

ive had the re-01r's on my car for well over 1000 miles now... and i cant say enough about them, they are GREAT in warm weather... sticky, surefooted, and just damn near perfect.... and even in the rain they are very planted ... ive never felt like i was getting loose without making the car do it myself.

I ran the 615's on my turboed civic. Not a bad street tire. However, they SUCKED when it rained and they got very greasy when they got really warmed up. The siewalls are awesome though, very controllable tire. And their price is reasonable too.

Damn, we are going to be running the same size/offset wheel. 18x9+40 but I am going to run a 255/35 Toyo R888 r compound or 265/35 if they make that size in time.

R compound??? How do you plan on heating those up??? Cause I know your car see's the street sometimes. R compounds are very slippery untill warmed up

There is also the new Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 that should be going on sale around August. I'm waiting on reviews and see how people like them.

True, but it only sees the road in good conditions. No rain, or anything like that.

jerry, lemme kno what the prices on those dunlops come to, i kno the current dz101s are goin for like, practically buy one get one, anything under 250 each seems fair.....what sizes would u go with tho? u thinkin of goin to the dark side and gettin staggered?

d i like ur 265 idea but i have 255 bulgin on a 8.5 right now and i wanna go wider on the wheel and kick it down a notch on the tire width to stretch out the sidewall and get them a lil stiffer we both kno a 9.0 incher will hold 265 ...maybe even 275 if u pray to the tire gods before tryin to mount them, and i am really tempted to follow suit but i wanna see where a stretch will take me....i kno how it handled at pocono with that setup and i wanna try somethin new for next yr and see where it gets me......good luck with the r comp and when u get em please bring em around sometime.....good stuff

I'm already running a slight stagger on the tires. A 235/45 front on a 8 inch and a 245/40 rear on a 9 inch. I wanted to run 255's in the rear but they don't come in that size in the REO1R's yet.

I'm hopping the new Dunlops will be around the same price or slighty cheaper than the Potenza's.

For a street tire the RE01R will beat the rt615 in EVERY aspect except price..RT615 is a great value, but the re01R will produce more dry grip and at the same time be quieter, track less, work well in the rain, and have a less agressive and more manageable grip transition..Alot of people on this forum will choose tires because of the JDM name and the way they look, but I like the RE01R better for my street car then the advan A046 because of the performance characteristics..They are just as as responsive but without the road noise and tracking, plus they are excellent in the rain..The choice really is a no brainer if they cost the same in that size and all the reviews will back it up..I run a 245/45/17 on my car..

i'm almost ready for a new set of tires for the 2nd half of this season as well. i'm currently running the rt-615s 255/40/17 and 235/40/17....i'm considering picking up a set of the fk452s in 265/40 or 275/40 for the rear and 235/40 or 245/40 for the front.

you guys are all so funny....with your high offsets :-p

yeah im gonna do 245/40 18 in the re01rs next summer....they r like 230 and the rt615s are like 180, not much of a diff for me to justify NEEDING the rt615s again. potenza here i come

high offsets? im at +35 on a 18x8.5 thats not soo bad, they are flush with the fenders...unlike other cars.....cough
