being the only rotary tech at a dealership leads to many questions form the other guys....i was recently asked about the moving parts of a rotary and i said three. that made no sense to the other tech so i went online to sho him a pic of one completely torn down.....thought its interesting to sho how simple these engines really are........ten points for the nerd who knows WHICH rotary this is.....

yes boys n girls its the ol 13b multi side port. the rx8 is the first rotary to have its exhaust ports NOt in the rotor housings, they are multiplied and put on the end plates/intermediate housing.....all rotaries in the past had 2 exhaust ports (one per rotor) the rx8 has 4 ports (2 per rotor but the 2 ports in the intermediate housing connect at the last sec before leaving the engine so they look like just one port between them...hense the "3 port" exhaust manifold........

no that isnt a 10 rotor, thats just rotor hosuings sittin on a desk in a row....its really diff to make a rotary ove r 4 rotors bc the e shaft cant handle it. the e shaft used in the 4 rotor cars of yesteryear were so one off custom blah blah blah reinforced blah blah blah that the e shaft cost more than the whole R&D on the car....if that was a 10 rotor engine thered be intermediate housings between them and front and rear end plates ......but the most ive ever seen was mercedes...they had a 6 rotor once.....

I know a guy who has build a custom 4 rotor engine from 12a parts and a custom e-shaft, and I have personally seen a pickup truck with a 6 rotor engine that looked like a hot dog with plug wires..

antman i can give ya a quote on rotor housings and seals but ud have to be MY specific, id have to kno if it was an 88 or a 87 nah mean?

and jerry, damn i saw ya today and we could have talked about it, a TII engine reman prolly wouldnt be too killer depending on how much u needed. if u just needed the housings end plates rotors and e shaft ud be in good shape, but if u want the weird stuff like the manifolds its rape.....be specific and ill help ya out, better yet see me on thursday if it dont rain!

this is what we see when we pull rx8 engines, we drop the engine down with the subframe, (you can also pull it up from the top if ur a hack) the trans is bigger than the engine!

Plus, you have to take into account the rotational/twisting force that would be generated by the motor which is greatly amplified by the addition of more rotors. You would have to do some serious dowling or cage the engine like the 20B's come stock with to keep the motor from twisting itself apart. I cant imagine the work that would need to be done on a 6 rotor to keep it from looking like a twizzler.
