A Boston man who failed the Massachusetts bar exam because he refused to answer a question about same-sex marriage has filed a federal lawsuit, contending that the test violated his rights and that his religious beliefs were targeted. Stephen Dunne, 30, is seeking $9.75 million in the suit against the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners and the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. He was denied a license to practice law in May after scoring just shy of the 270 passing grade on the exam. Dunne refused to answer an exam question addressing the rights of two married lesbians, their children, and their property and says in the suit that it cost him a passing score. Dunne argues that the Massachusetts state government is "purposely-advancing Secular Humanism's ****sexual agenda." The Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners declined to comment on what the questions are worth and how the tests are scored. The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court declined to comment on the case. Especially since he's not an attorney, YET. That question is likely a very common one, especially in Massachusetts, and indicative of the types of cases an attorney might deal with. How badly did he have to do on the rest of the exam to miss passing by ONE question? That means he'd already missed 30% of the other questions - nothing like putting your moron-hood out in public so future employers can see how badly you did on the exam...

This is the second time a lawyer or legal student is making the entire legal system look bad. First the jackoff with the dry cleaner and now this guy. I hope the judge destroys him and makes him look incompetent, pointing out the fact that the guy missed 30% of the questions besides the questions in question.

My thoughts were..ok you disagree with that one question - most bar exams are well over 500 questions, plus a thesis section....at a 30% failure rate, what about the other 210 questions you missed?

He could potentially be the first lawyer to get disbarred before he even passes the bar. Even if he does win, he will have a tough time getting a job (which I am assuming is the reason why he is suing. He most likely got fired when he failed).

This won't sit well for his next go around..

Fast forward 2 years from now and I will be studying for the bar... I am already drinking some JD in preparation.

A former professor of mine is an ADA in philly and she has made it her mission to stop the douche-baggery that has been plaguing this profession. It's going to take her a long time if she only teaches 20 students at a time, but most of my class went from wanna-be sport agents and ambulance chasers to public service and development focused.

The major issue is the goldmine that used to be the law profession that has become so saturated they have resorted to "street" mentalities to make a buck. It just so happens that their bucks have a few zero's attached to it.

When I started law school.. I went into it knowing that I will probably make less money then I currently do as a Senior Financial Analyst. I am okay with it as long as I feel like I make a difference for myself (and others) instead of the current situation working for "the man."

Good on you...I worked with 42 lawyers for the past 7 years...some great experiences, some horrible experiences - I guess the same could be said for any career field or industry, though.
