Well it's about that time to rebuild the 914-6. It was supposed to be started back in February but life gets in the way. I was so busy and my other car was destroyed so I had to buy a new one. So I just put it away for awhile.

Oh did I mention I also took the car out in the dead of winter and sorta smacked up the front end LOL Very lovely but I am rather embarrassed.

Anyways here are pictures of what the car looks like now.

The plans for the winter rebuild are mostly cosmetic. Mechanicaly the car is very strong. Here is the list...

Fiberglass hoods both front and rear.
The front fenders are gonna be made stock again with the turn signal buckets put back in place.
The front hood will be the race hood which deletes the headlight buckets completely.
For the new headlights I will be installing HID lights inside the new turnsignal buckets. Gives the car a very clean look!!!
The front bumper will be replaced with a one piece carbonfiber bumper, air dam and splitter. Again adds to a very clean look.
The fenders will be reshaped to fit 8 inch front wheels and 11 inch rear wheels. Means flaring the front 2 inches and the rear 1 inch.

Here is the original fenders

Here is the one peice front end with quick release front splitter.

I still haven't decieded what I will do for rear downforce. Either a wing or duck bill. I really like the look of the duck bill but it causes alot of drag. A wing on the other hand produces alot less drag which you can really feel when you get above 150.

Here is the duck bill design.

I have also built up quite a collection of bits and pieces. Mostly interior parts. These includes new door panels in basket weave leather, baskets weave to refinish the dash and leather finished dash top. Also new back panel. Rest of the interior is already finaished in leather and bare metal. Just needs some finishing up. Oh also new 5 point harnesses. The seats I want I will wait awhile for. Also the gauges I want I will wait on.

Here is how the interior looks right now.

Here is the run down on some of the cars specs right now...

930 turbo 4 piston brakes with floating front rotors.
911 RS 2.7 magnesium motor with twm ITB injection managed by a haltek ecu
240 hp and 200 lbs of torque at the wheels
9000 rpm redline

916 magnesium trannsmission with tall 1st and 2nd followed by close ratio 3rd thru 5th. I like this setup because by the end of 2nd I am hitting 80 mph. Usefull for short course racing I find.

Current car weight is 2050 with half tank of gas. I should be able to get it under 2000 with the new mods. Weigh bias is 48/52

car pulls 1.1 gs with the current street tires which are bridgestone potenzas. Replacing with azeins and hope I get the same or better performance.

Top speed is 170 at which point it is hitting redline in 5th gear. It gets there very quickly though.

Thanks. The car is alot of fun. As it gets older the looks become more charming.

I may in a year or 2 twin plug the motor and bump up the compression. This would bring the car to over 300whp. But it's pretty fast as is.

300 whp out of a 2.7 NA is pretty freakin BA. :)

Yeah I got to say I didn't know much about porsches and this was my first ever. I am amazed just how much power they were getting out of the cars at the time. The RSR was 2.8 liters with 10.5-1 compression and putting out 320hp at 9000 rpm. This was in 1973.

Mine is the earlier 2.7 rs with 200hp. With the very skilled engine builder and switch to modern fuel injection they are able to get alot of power out of this motor. 240 at the wheels as is. And with only 2 valves per cyclinder.

But yeah when I got the car I put it on a lift and was just amazed with the design. The motor itself is about 6 inches from the ground. There is no oil pan and the cylinders are out to the side. Whole motor is about 12 inches tall.
