Ok, so this winter I wanna do one swap...


I have a 91 Laser 1.8L & a 97 Eclipse GS...

1. New 420a motor and boost it?

2. 4G63T in the Laser?

3. 4G63 in the Eclipse?

I dont wanna push crazy boost, like 6-10lbs will satisfy me. Id rather do the eclipse, and drive the laser all winter while the eclipse gets swapped or w.e

But whats my best bet as for price, reliability and ect. Is it even worth it? Like i said, i dont wanna push crazy boost, juss somthing to drive DD on, nothing crazy, few bolt ons, you know. And if I do the eclipse, Id keep the laser as a 2nd car bc it is so cheap a month.

itd be more cost effective to just turbo the 420a if your only lookin at 6-10lbs....

High Insurance is a stupid excused to not get one, I paid more a month for my 95 RS than i did for my 90 Tsi, A 4g63 swap in a 420a car is pretty dumb, and If I recall the engine bay is different in a Non turbo car....But dont hold me to that.

And you say you only want 6 to 10lbs of boost, Wait till you actually get to that point and start driving with it everyday, You ALWAYS want more.

I vote sell both and get a GS-T, Check out insurance rates before you start saying its gonna be more expensive.

you're gonna want more, my new clutch is just broken in, so i turned my boost up to 20psi and my car felt like a f'n beast. then i turned it down to 17..and guess what, i want more. i was thinking on the way home from work tonight that i already want a bigger turbo and more fuel system stuff, you always want more...if you are looking for a dsm...go with a 1g. look around and try to find yourself a 92...w/ a 6 bolt motor, and a 4 bolt rear, insurace won't be bad

Yep, My insurance dropped like 900 Bucks when I got my 1g and that was with like 6 points on my liscense and being 19 years old on my own policy, and living in NJ

Hell, i pay 118 a month for my talon, which ain't that bad. I think an eclipse would be a few bucks more, since they were a slightly more popular car.
On a budget, my vote would be to sell the 2g, and buy a 1g GSX, or GST. No money worries, i'd still sell the 2 g, and buy a GST or GSX 2g.
Or you could just do a built motor on the 420a, thye can make some HP, you just gotta build it right. And the tranny, must put money into the tranny. You can make power with the 420, you just gotta put more money into it than you would with a 4G63.

i'm just adding this in there...i think it might actually be cheaper for you to get a 1g awd. figure, you're gonna get another 420a motor, build that...if you do it right, it's gonna cost you a good buck...then turbo it ($$$), fuel system upgrades ($$$), trans and clutch work ($$$) b/c it's def. gonna break. its only meant to handle 150 hp...and you'd be way above that. and your insurance would probably drop b/c its a little bit older car with the benefit of awd which would be good to get you around during winter time

thanks guys...I made my final discision due to I dont wanna go all out, i cant see myself doing that, and I dont want another car, i like the 2 cars I have...

For the amount of money it'll cost you to do a built motor and buy a turbo kit for the GS, you could own a 1G awd and still have your other two cars. And the stock 1G will probably still be faster than the turbo GS and most importantly it'll be awd.

Built motors are NOT cheap. Trust me. I get everything discounted through my work and it still cost me a couple thousand dollars.

thats the point i was trying to make earlier...but he is so damn attached to that n/a eclipse for some reason
