View Full Version : Having a fun weekend with the S14

Well, this weekend is my official "Git-er-done" weekend for the S14. The tasks:

Install MR coilovers
Install S15 front end

The coils went in with only a little persuasion. The original issue MR's had a slight problem with the upper knuckle bolt hole being about 1/8" too low. This was easily remedied with a drill. :) I'll get some pictures of these later for you guys. The result: 190% improvement in handling. These things are awesome, and I'm still riding on the softest setting. I will warn you, though, they're not for the feint of heart. You will feel each and every last pebble in the road, and potholes will feel like falling into the Grand Canyon.

The S15 front end, on the other hand, isn't being so kind. I purchased the factory Nissan s15 headlights, the VIS OEM CF hood, Inner Circle conversion fenders, and a URAS Type IV bumper. The headlights and bumper are beautiful, the VIS is decent, but the fenders DEFINITELY leave something to be desired. The fitment around the door and a-pillar is horrid, and I'm also going to have to raise up the hood at the hinges with washers, as the fenders are a good 1/2" about the hood when it's closed. Here's a couple of teaser pics, just note the car is jacked up in the front, there is actually only about a finger's length of wheel gap.

The front end gone:

The fenders & hood mounted, with the headlights/bumper mocked up:

A picture of my fitment issues with these fenders...I don't like how they meet here, and it's even worse on the other side.

Hopefully I'll have some "completed but not painted yet" pics tomorrow. :)

EDIT: There's something goofy with comcast right now and the pics don't come up. I'll try to find another image host.

TalonTsi97...she's not boosted yet. That's the next project, to be completed in the next 2 months or so. 97Tsi, bjc26 and myself will be doing it all in-house, manifold and IC/turbo pipes. I just have to start ordering stuff. :)

Nice, I always like the strawberry face on the older body, since the S15 tails remind me of a Pontiac Grand Am...

You're going to get it painted and not look like Pete's car right? ;)

Haha...I'm not a big fan of the three-tone (actually four-tone if you include the cf) so it's going to get flat blacked until a lot of other work is done. Then I'm taking it to a body shop to get all the dings pulled and get a sweet paint job. Realistically, I'm hoping to get to that stage by the end of summer. But who knows.

I agree on the s15 tails though, they are hideous. I actually like the s13 kouki lights the best, but those just would not flow on an s14 :p

I had a feeling you where not Turbo yet. I sat at my computer thinking of a way to type it but i figured whatever.
I was going to say Any turbo or one with a conversion on them are my dream car but then i changed it at the very end.
ANyway Hope to see it all done.

How much horsepower when I'm done the front end conversion? Maybe 125? :P Nah, when I pop the turbo in, I'm looking for about 300hp with as little lag as possible.

I actually kinda like it in tri-tone. Maybe I'll keep it that way.

Brian & I finished up mounting today, and I got the headlight wiring sorted out. All that's left is to solder all the wires, and then try to fix a couple of fitment issues, mostly with hood/fender clearance.

Talon...no hard feelings :P It's slowly becoming my dream car :)

Man, I kept peeking out the window to see if you were still in the garage. I went to bed at 11 and you were still out there! What time did you finish up?? She's already looking pretty sick though.

I left about quarter to 12, after I had all the wires sorted out. Now I just have to find some time to get back there and solder them all up. It took me a good 20 minutes just to find a few planks to sit under the tire so I could get the jack out from underneath. I noticed the lights were out in your house when I left :)

I have a test in my stupid CAD class tonight, so I hope to get out of there early. So, if that works out for me, I should be able to get over there, finish up, then head up to the meet tonight :)

I have the lights wired up...they aren't exactly working the way that I want them to, though.

At least I can drive it around....slowly...so I don't destroy my bumper on these crappy NJ roads :finga: NJDOT.

wow does your car sit as low as it looks in your avatar? thats not possibly driveable like that is it?

HAHA....I have 3" of clearance at the bumper. I go REALLY slow over bad bumps and RR tracks. But my suspension has been sucking up all the crappy roads. Now, getting out of Nick's driveway...that's another story, but the only scrape I've had so far.

wow, well it looks great from what i can tell. you should post some more pics. i dont know if i'd want to drive something thats practically sitting on the ground on a regular basis though... reminds me of my friend's E36 M3. he'd be following me and there were speed bumps, i am lowered a bit so i slowed down and went over them and kept going. a minute later i look back to see him at a 45 degree angle literally going about 2mph creeping over the things.... haha.

Hahah, it's not an actual "shop" yet....
It's just my garage, where the three of us do pretty much all our work.
We do everything from maintenance stuff to motor swaps/transmissions/etc. Everything 'cept for bodywork. Although, Chris and Bri did a good job getting the front and fenders on the 240.
