i was talking somethings over with a friend about putting on a oil regulator on my feed line to the turbo and while discussing it was mentioned that non ball bearing turbos dont need a regulator. Is this true? reason being is i have a fresh motor in my civic and the oil seems to burn a little bit and im not sure if its the turbo going or too high of oil pressure since its a fresh motor. The turbo came off of an extremely low mileage 2g gsx and worked fine before removing it. please discuss...

Best bet would be to call up a mitsu dealer or the turbo manufacturer and find out what the rated oil pressure should be going to it. Too high or too low could cause the oil to burn but too high shouldn’t be the issue unless there is a major difference between the oil pressure for your car vs the dsm. Too low and it is spending too much time around the turbo and is cooking.

A dsm will max out around 85psi on a stock oil pump once the car is warmed up. Honda's are about the same. You dont need a regulator, the 14b off the DSM dosent come with one.

Not quite.....I run a OEM oil pump, I've seen my oil pressure go past 100+ psi
Do you know if the engine still have the balance shaft or was it removed? Usually when its taken out it will raise the oil pressure. I dont think i seen anybody run into any major issues from it though. I would say forget about this oil regulator....

only while your oil is not up to full operating temp. Once your oil is warmed up a stock 4g63 should not raise up to 100psi

so im taking it most likely is the turbo seals going? theres no shaft play what so ever and its holding boost steady.

That is a tough question to answer. Remember, if it is too little oil pressure then the oil can bake in the turbo as well.
