well Honda fans.... i am having a new problem. it seems that once i start driving for about 10 mins, i notice a squeak. it only happens during a 3 situations. starting, stopping, shifting. it sounds to me like somewhere in the left side of my car, it sounds like the front, i dont think its the clutch cause it happens when its in neutral too.
this is reaaaallly bothering me, so if anyone could help out it would be greatly appreciated.

It is a honda what do you expect. I would fall asleep if mine did not make any noise.

Well when I had my Altima, I remember my car making noises exactly as you described. Took it to a shop, and they said the rotors needed resurfacing. I didn't really understand at that time and then I had my mechanic look at it and agreed. The rotor had to be resurfaced due to friction by rubbing of the pads to the rotor... something around those lines. I'm sure someone can better explain. But the main thing I remembered, was, More friction = More noise. Hope that helped out a little bit. There should be tutorials out there on how to check everything by yourself. -Johnny

i don't think it's the brakes cause it wouldn't do it while shifting if it was. does it make the noise when the clutch is in? if it does it could be the throwout bearing.

from what you described to me it sounds like you have belt slipping...check to make sure you alt, PS, AC belts are all in good condition and are tensioned properly

this is why i dont think its the belts. i can sit still compeltly and there is no squeak at all. no matter how hard i rev

Hmm...it might only slip under load but who knows, i'd still check the bekts first thats your cheapest fix!

so under load it could slip more huh? that would make sense cause i notice it more when the air conditioning is on

why not tell us what you have checked on your car to narrow down the issue of where the noise is coming from. Or is everyone supposed to do the thinking for you and just guess where the noise is coming from? Usually when people have a problem with their car it helps to post what you proactive steps you have done to narrow down the issue or problem so people don't waste their time spouting off suggestions when it is no where near where the noise is coming from or close to the problem. Simply saying you have a squeak after driving for ten mins and it is the front left of your car does not really give much info. Did you pop your hood and look around and listen?

Does it squeek when you first turn on the A/C?

It sounds like a suspension issue, mainly due to the fact that it happens when the chassis is loaded or unloaded, either front or rear, by you accelerating/shifting/braking. Check your bushings, struts...anything rubber that can be moved, or have something moved against it.

no it doesnt squeek when i turn it on but it starts squeaking more noticeably when its on. and what your saying mike kinda makes sense. and it mainly is when its under load. so what am i looking for cracked rubber, cracked metal ?
thanks people in advance for your patient efforts
na is best!

since you have no clueas to what to look for with anything concerning your car why dont you take you car to pep boys. They offer a free front end check. During this check the mechanics are instructed to check you belts, front end components and brakes (obvisoulsy to try and sell you something) at least this way your car will be on a lift and they will take you in the garage and show you what it is. Also beware because they will try and sell you anything so dont fall for whatever they say... but it might help give you an idea. The front end checks are free so no worries and no wasted money. It is nearly impossible to diagnose a "noise" that one cannot hear.

I would check sway bar bushings first. If they are bad, they are fairly inepensive. Look for signs of rust inside the bushing where it wraps around the bar itself. One quick test is to soak the bushing with something like wd40 or PB Blaster and see if the noise is still there. Check your motor mounts too. I am not sure if Honda used filled mounts, but if they leak they have a tendency to allow for extra movement, causing things to rub.

. the engine mounts are fine i already had them checked back at oil change. i got two little ramps so ill check the sway bar first. if i still cant find it than off to the shop like said before. final question, i just installed a front strut bar a while back, maybe a month or so? any possible way its squeaking there?

Anything's possible, but i highly doubt it. Ever search it on preludepower? It's probably come up before on there.

It's possible. Easiest way to tell is to take it off and see if the problem continues.

Did you check your shift cable linkage on the tranny?
Sometimes this happens and the best fix is to buy some white lithium grease in a spray can. Spray liberally all over the linkage and see if it goes away.

Strange noises suck.
I bent my dust shield for my one rotor when I did my latest tranny swap, and it sounded like a spring was going to fall off my car. Thank for for that stupid dust cover.
I would maybe have someone drive the car, and stop it, with you standing outside the car. That might help you hear it better.
To me it sounds like belts or heat shield. The two most common honda noises.

i got a 5th gen prelude as well and i had a front end squeak, turned out to be my front sway bar bushings.
another one is your radius rod bushings. mine are pretty noisy right now.
