I guess you could say I'm kind of freaking out. My last car threw a cel and it took just about $1000 to fix and it was only an evaporatory leak. I was driving the lude today and got on vtec a little and when i shifted to the next gear it threw a cel for the first time since i've had the car. I just changed the oil 3-400 miles ago so i'm fairly certain that my oil level is fine, so my question is does anyone know a reason why a cel would be thrown after hitting vtec. I tried checking the code, but i'm not sure if i'm doing it right because it only blinks once, so i'm assuming it's a 1 or a 10...

1 Primary Heated Oxygen Circuit

* High/Low Signal

* Open or short in Primary HO2S sensor
* Primary HO2S sensor
* ECM

10 Intake Air Temperature Cicuit

* Range/Performance Problem

* Open or short in IAT sensor
* IAT sensor
* ECM

But i'm not sure if i'm pulling the code correctly because after i "shorted" the little telephone jack thinger and turned the car to the on pos. I tried it without the wire connecting the little jacks and it blinked once again, so i'm not sure if the one blink is normal or if It's still telling me i have a cel code 1 or 10.

So basically, any ideas on why i would get a cel code after hitting vtec (i hadn't hit vtec for at least a week or two prior) and do the 1 or 10 codes make any sense in my situation? Thanks for any help and any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

it is super hot and humid out. the weather can do crazy things to cars.

i would have to double check, but im pretty sure preludes were included in the emissions extension warranty. basically anything 96-99 or 2000 (forget which) had extended coverage for the CEL, so anything that makes the light come on up to 150k is covered. so say your cat melts down at 140k, honda replaces it. we just did a trans on a 97 civic with 130k under warranty because it made the CEL come on.

Check to see if your O2 sensor wires got burnt up from hitting your exhaust. If the power wire in the o2 sensor grounds out, it will throw a code like that.
