Need some lowering tips...

Gonna be ordering a Belltech 3/3 lowering kit for the Jimmy which will bring it down three inches all around, my truck is 4wd so this should be a little unique as most don't do it w/ 4wd. I'm just curious to those who own or have owned lowered trucks, what is common to replace/maintain when performing this?

Are new shocks/struts reccommended? If so, what type and why? Anything else?

The stock 15's will get some new rubber and used for winter only and will be replaced with some Z06 wheels, yada yada yada. Should look pretty spiffy, but I want it to ride well....so who's done this? I'm a n00b at street trucks :)

if you did that it would totally defeat the purpose of having 4wd...i personally don't think you should do it. if anything lift it up....i know a guy that does incredible work. 4" lift and 33'' tires and your set, you'll have way more fun than lowering it and wasting lots of $$$ on z06 wheels

I fail to see why it would defeat the purpose of 4wd being lower to the ground, but I guess that's not really the point. It's going to sit like a blazer extreme, except it'll be 4wd -nothing wrong with that. I don't offroad and drive in 2HI 99% of the time.

i dont know much about trucks or suvs or much about lowering for that matter, but i thouht about lowering my car with stock struts, and people were always telling me "no, no, no", so i assume that it was for a reason. if you are doing the work as a DIY, and dont mind doing it again if ur struts blow, its up to you...i juust went ahead and ordered everything at once to save myself the time and trouble of taking it all apart again. GL with w.e you do

Hey chris, Just keep a eye on your common wear and tear suspension parts. Dropping 4x4s is now a thing that is easily done. You dont know how many 4x4 dually trucks i have seen completely slammed. i think the only thing you really need to watch is the trucks camber afterwards

it will not defeat the purpose of 4wd at all. The 4wd lowering kits are designed to still allow use of the 4wd system.

look into either the factory bilstein shocks or the belltech shocks.

Other than that you should be good. If you are lowering with the belltech kit im assuming its the torsion keys and block kit? If so then you shouldnt have any problems at all. Just get it aligned when you're all done and go out and enjoy it.

ever thing about swapping the 4wd tcase for a astro awd tcase?:mrgreen:

Yea, its a torsion key/block set. The Olds Bravada (same platform as blazer, jimmy, etc) has a full-time AWD system so i'm looking into that...funny you should mention!
