Getting a portable navigation system but didnt want to be bothered with installing an external antenna cause then i cant go car to car, i understand that if u use a palm and buy navigation then u have to download the route form the computer and also if u make a wrong turn it doesnt help you

i have a Pharos setup running on PocketPC 2002
when it works its pretty good, you do need to make sure the proper maps are loaded on your device, but they cover a large area. for example,.. the philadelphia map also covers the suburbs
there are 4 maps total that cover all major interstates and link the local maps together.
if you miss a turn it does indeed recalculate the route.
i do have to say tho sometimes i have a very hard time getting a signal with it. once i do have a signal its pretty steady

I have a navteq based setup on my Dell Axim X30 (windows pocket PC) and I use a blue tooth gps receiver.
best bang for the buck ever:
$200 for the axim
$200 for the navteq software and gps receiver (from dell)
$75 for an ultra high speed 1.0 gb SD card
I can fit over half the USA on the SD card along with music and movies etc.
this system works out better then any other solution I've looked at and is supported and backed by both Dell and Navteq. if you're wondering who Navteq is, go check out who makes the navi systems for BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Acura etc.

I have a magellan roadmate 500, and im pretty happy with it. Gets me places without getting lost. It is pretty pricey though, im sure you could get something equally as good, if not better for cheaper.
