ok, so this last meet, i was testing my new camera and it took ok pics. but the Noise was very noticable. soooo im debating on a slr.

here's my budget. i have an account on dell. sooo i was thinking of the cannon xti, is that a nice camera? i'm not trying to go over $800.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0725996

hows the 18mm lens? is that an ok lens? any recommendations?

i have good taste in photography, but i can't do it without the right equipment.

thx for any inputs.

Just got my Rebel XTi a few weeks ago with a couple different lenses. So far I love it! Don't expect a better camera to automatically take better pictures though. It's not just a matter of having good taste in choosing what to photograph. More importantly it's about capturing it in the right light. Basically what i'm saying is I would try to focus more on taking better pictures with the camera you have than buying a more expensive camera. Just my two cents, hope this was helpful.

yes, i am very aware that lighting is a big issue. but its the noise level. have u seen my pics of the rainy west chester meet? omg, noise is noticeable all over the place. i would like to eliminate that because i captured my pics with great lighting, but the noise level damaged the quality. so i'm just looking to eliminate that noise.

EDIT

here are 2 examples.

the first one, gorgeous lighting. great detail on the carbon fiber. but sheesh, the bumper looks like crap cuz of the noise. and trust me, thats not rains lol. the second one i captured the lighting very well on the ground, but look at the cars, omg they look horrible. if only i had a camera that eliminated noise by like 80% i would be good. but this is like 80% noise lol...

a tripod, lower iso, longer exposure - that'll eliminate most of the noise.

if you still decide on a dslr, any of the entry level dslr are good choices. look at the lenses and see which one fits what you plan on shooting. I prefer Canon telephoto and prime lenses so I went with Canon.

Something else to consider is Noise Ninja or Neat Image, if you're more concerned about the noise alone. I like rice is right, that a lower iso and a tripod will pretty much eliminate the noise. I didn't bring one to the meet because I'm an idiot sometimes so I had to shoot at 1600 ISO and then run my pics through Neat Image, but it worked.

but the main difference is your sensor is larger than his, so shooting at higher iso won't create as much noise on a dslr than it would on a p&s.

well i made up my mind. i asked my mom for the receipt for the samsung and she said she lost it. so she's keeping the camera.

i in fact went and ordered a rebel xti with the 18mm lens and also a 2gb memory card. i already have a tripod so thats all good. can't wait to start shooting, i just need a camera that does wat i want it to do with less effort in editing afterwards. unlike now, i gotta mess with sooo many layers of lighting, filtering just to make the shot decent... not great, but decent. the slr will make editing 10x easier and faster with amazing results.

the canon is a great choice. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I have the canon xt and love it.

it came in the mail earlier today and 20 mins later came my 2 gig memory card from ups.

I took the camera to work because i had no time to sit around and take pics at the wasps i killed lol. but i managed to take some pics at work and these pics are all UNEDITED! and i was really surprised at how clear and detailed the pics came out. the lighting is perfect in every pic, i was again surprised that i didn't have to edit them.

i took pics of coworkers, there cellphones, my drink, and the canon lens cover " which i lost btw " and our microwaves! yay! lol.

your absolutely right. i'm still a noob with the slr's. i like how the camera gives me very nice quality images. and with very little editing will make the image 10x better. i was hoping to be able to use the LCD screen to shoot but instead " being a noob, i still dunno " i gotta look through the eyecup.

i could use some tips if anybody cares to lend a hand. and i would like to know if i can change my lcd to be able to see my shots before i take them.

1. get a good sturdy tripod if you dont have one.

2. using the view finder is a million times better than using a screen

3. read the manual. memorize it.

4. read the manual again.

5. take a lot of pictures, the more the better. the more you take the better you get with using your settings

6. learn/use manual mode

thats all i can think off. im tired lol.
