havent updated on here in a while, well the original engine we had orders had a crack in the block, so we ordered a brand new rebuilt block for $4k. looks very clean just needs to be broken in pics up on tuesday or wednesday. this month i have had soooooo much bad luck w/ cars, this engine swap has taken way too long, i think getting it on tuesday, which is the first of the month is actually a good thing, starting fresh

i read an ariticle in a recent issue of sport compact car and was inspired
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/projectc...ura_rsx_s_turbo
i was looking into a summer project to keep me busy. i want to look into the pros and cons of this and what i am going to get myself into. the basic idea is to cut the shape out and bend it down. the only cons i can think of are cracking of the paint when cutting, bending issues, and clearance between the bottom of the inlet and the engine (or above the intake where it will be) i would assume a carbon fiber hood would be easier to do this on due to its pliability, but if i were to get a plain cf hood i would just go with the gt-four hood if i were to spend money. i just wnat to try it on my oem

here is an example on a miata

you want to cut a vent into the stock hood?

a. it will give you 0 increase in performance
b. unless you know someone that does body work for a living, its going to end up looking like ass.

haha yeah i know just wanted more air flow to the intake. the project on the rsx was easier b/c it was a cf hood so they didnt have to worry about chipped paint and such

lagos
05-17-2007, 02:06 PM
just get a short ram intake or a cold air one.

or buy my old intercooler and start putting together a 5sfTe :)

Tigawoods
09-30-2007, 04:52 PM
man i dont know, i have not beat on it since i got the rebuild, 5s's just arent for me

lagos
09-30-2007, 04:57 PM
5s is one of the most reliable motors ever built. unless your getting bad rebuilds, they should last at least 150-200k.
how often do you change the oil, and how often do you check the level?

Tigawoods
09-30-2007, 05:26 PM
im checking it all the time, i checked it before i went out and it was full and clean

to go along with what lagos said, 5SFTE FTW!
if you were really thinking about going turbo, i have a CT26 sitting in my garage right now i could give ya ;-)

after i blew up the 3sgte in my old MR2, i bought an entire rear 5SFE clip (complete motor, trans, axles/hubs, ecu, etc...) for $200 bucks off dave jenny from paautoracing. $1,700 sounds kinda steep for a 5SFE but then again, i don't know what the differences between the celica 5s's and the MR2 5s's if there is any.

Tigawoods
01-20-2008, 12:54 PM
i was just looking into the expenses of building a 5SFTE, i wouldnt be able to do it for another couple years (depending on the cost) suspension-this summer. next summer-camera equipment.

i hear you, i don't know if you're already on it or not but check out mr2oc.com. they have TONS of information on everything you would ever need to know about the 5SFE/5SFTE.

ps... love the tinted gauges.

Car look good, one question though...bride upholstery and no bride seats?

had to re-upholster the sides.
i had planned on getting the seats right after but
my tire with a hole in it, bad coilover, and cheap cams seemed like the better route lol

Got Insulin?

low end torque stock was very nice. and it fell on its face from 3500 up
with the cams it more than makes up for it.
its no boost but it pulls verrry nicely
