Civic! I really like the new GTI, but due to their previous electrical problem track record I just couldnt see myself buying one. The 06 SI also looks very nice plus it probably gets better gas mileage, and its a honda so you KNOW its gonna be reliable.

I like the new GTIs also, but I think for the money I would get the SI. I really dont know much about either...but I did drive the GTI and loved it. I say go test drive both and see how you feel.

Also I know how you take your dogs with you places. Both have a 4-dr option.

civic. just a better built car IMO. no offense to the VW owners but i will probably never own a VW unless its a lease and i plan on doing nothing to it.

plus i just flat out like the new civic Si's

tough choice
very tough
ok well the gti i mean ur already halfway there with the turbo
decent suspension platform to work with but aftermarket parts are not as common

civic si's look baller as hell and theres a bajillion parts available making everything fully customizable as far as the hole in your wallet can stretch
however performance its probably not as fast as the gti and its not turbo but i know the suspensions are tough and as was said before dude its an effin honda lol

the turbo in a GTi is a joke. its not some blazingly fast car by anymeans, and it can be pricey and a pain in the ass to upgrade

hmmm... I assume the gti's hatch would be a big plus for a dog owner.

I'll speak from experience, as I went through the same dilemma when I bought mine. I test drove both, two or three times each. I had the same fears with the VW electrical issues, as certain models in the past have been terrible.

The Mk5 GTI has been out in Europe since 2004, so it's quite established. It is a completely new chassis, suspension, etc layout, not an upgraded version of the Mk4. The new MkV GTI is also built in VW's Wolfsburg, Germany plant, not in Mexico like the previous gen. I've owned mine for almost a year, and I have not had a single electrical or mechanical issue to date.

That said, I liked the Civic Si. The Si's manual transmission is better than the GTI's in my opinion. To my knowledge though, the Si only comes in manual, so if you're lookin for an "automatic" you're kind of stuck. Granted, yes, the DSG in the GTI is a "dual automated clutch manual" but basically functions the same for you.

Few reasons I chose the GTI over the Si:
Heated seats (thank god for that investment)
Leater
HID
Factory Turbo
GTI is roomier inside than the Si

I think both are great cars, but I prefer the mid-range torque from the GTI's motor over the rev happy Si. As far as mods go, the GTI now has plenty out. Intake, exhaust, reflash, suspension, etc.

No, it's not a blazingly fast car, nor were they trying to make it that. That said, it's on par if not a little quicker than the new Si, which she's comparing it to and in real world applications (aka not 0-60) it can hold it's own with a WRX (stock vs stock).

As far as upgrades go, HP per Dollar, the GTI is cheaper than the Si. The reflash on the ECU increases the HP/TQ far more than any intake/exhaust/header combo does for the Si.

I don't think she's looking for STI performance here anyway.

well i choose the civic si for a number of reasons:

-parts available
-the engine and the ability to rev to 8k+
-great gas mileage
-very easy to get 300whp+
-its just a baller car

I choose the GTI cause it's faster stock and like alot of people said easier to go fast for cheap. I'm assuming you are not going to mod it much but I still like the look of the new GTI over the si.

im sorry but i dont like the design of the new gti, i think it looks like ass and the design has been done. I think it almost looks like a 92-95 civic hatch. the civic si is hot and the design is new

I would get the si over the GTI. I have owned both honda's and VW and like most people said the honda will be more reliable and much cheaper to fix the the vw. Also there are alot more aftermarket parts out there and a hell of a lot cheaper then buying parts for a vw.

If you are worried about theft I would get a vw. I feel the vw is built more solid but overall cost of ownership of the car the honda wins hands down.

I agree about the cost of ownership when comparing older VW. As far as it stands now the only "cost" i've had was for oil changes.

I do like the design of the 4 door Si's though. I think I acutally like it better than the 2 door. I didn't like the gauge setup though on the civic. It's not that the gauges are on two different tiers, it's more that the top tier is farther away than the bottom. Looks good in pictures, but I didn't like it as well while driving.
