well lancer, we've had a good run. its been nice knowing you.

i flipped my car 2 nights ago when i hit a patch of bumpy ice around a turn doing like 25-30 mph. the airbags didnt go off but i got out without a scratch.

 thats really crappy, sorry to hear that. i dont know if driving lessons are in order... when the surface is inconsistent there's not much you can really do. if you wanted an excuse to get lessons though then dont let me stop you.
i dont know how cheap you are looking to go, but i'm a huge fan of the S13 bodystyle 240SX and they arent dirt cheap, but they are pretty affordable. it'd also be an awesome car to work on over time. it is RWD which can be good and bad, depending on who you talk to.
if thats not what you're going for, then maybe a 5 speed neon or civic?
hope insurance treats you kindly on this one...

ich, i dont know first hand, but those older saabs can be money pits. do your homework before you buy one just to be safe...

Damn man, that sucks. I liked my OZ when I had it. Was an easy car to drive.
Time for a "real" car though. How is the insurance working out? Payoff?
It all depends on what your financial situation is after all is said and done as to what you can get. Your best bet would be to get the newest car you can. Maybe a 2.5 RS? The AWD is the way to go. Plus they can be had for fairly cheap.

Well, a 2.5rs would be a sweet choice, but falls ouside of the cheap mark. I personally dig the old school 92-94 Civic Si hatches. Its wrong wheel drive, but its light and decently fast.

problem with a 240 at this point is now they are all over priced and theives took their eyes from hondas over to them.

also that sr20 swap people rave about isnt as cheap as you think

i think i'm pretty set on getting a saab. my mom has one, and getting a convertible would give me more incentive to drive more carefully so i don't roll over and die

Well good luck with whatever you get. The SOB would not be my choice, but they are comfortable cars!
