depends, do you want your hood destroyin your windshield?

Its one of those safety precautions ppl knock as excessive, but ive seen CF hoods go up more than once, so i wouldnt go without it.

thats the thing though. will it fly up if its properly latched?

It shouldn't but I have seen it happen a handful of times. Get pins.

The latches can break. They aren't as strong as your stock hood.

so what about these?

very low profile which i like.

think these will do it? and think i need anything else?

Those should work fine, just don't lose the keys.

It really depends on the manufacturer. If done properly, you'll have to break the CF in order for the latch to separete itself from the hood. If you're not sure, then get pins. There's TOO many cheap products out there.

well, we can sit here and tell you not to do it, but if the latch breaks and does hit your windsheild none of us are going to suffer as a result of it...

i dont use the hood pins because i really dont think the latch is going to break...

if you dont want your windsheild to break or your roof smashed (seen it happen) then get them...

i dont think those carbon fiber ones are too good tho, it'll look weird imo... just get black ones and throw em on if you feel you need them

^No they're not. AeroTech is pimp. I have them on my Rx7. Nearly Impossible to install but worth every penny.

I keep one of those Latch keys on my chain for everytime I need to help out a friend who cant seem to find his that he swears was in his glove box.

I had these and I was very unhappy with them. After something like 3 or 4 months the pin underneat that holds the locking part down broke. And the hood began to lift on the side. Get the Aerocatch ones that others are speaking of. I got them. They are great. A little pricey, yes. But when you look at the fact that they are holding down an expensive hood. And if the hood comes up I have seen them crack the windhsheild, dent the roof, crack the hood, and even crack the headlights if glass when the hood comes back down.
The AeroCatch look much better as well. I have had multiple comments.
you can get them at www.deftracing.com
here are the pics of my install (http://s73.photobucket.com/albums/i206/mrjaydeeone/AeroCatch%20Hood%20Latches%20January%2017th%202007/)
and here is a pic of what I had to drive around like after the other hoodpin broke

I've had my Aerocatch pins for about a year and I love them. Best $100 I've spent:

I had a fiberglass hood on my old eclipse, no pins, flew off.

I have a cf on my eclipse now, pins.

All I gotta say...

CF Hood=expensive
Pins= cheap

Do you want 300,maybe even more to fly into your face or over your head?

So good job gettin pins.

thanks a million, but is that fiberglass or carbon fiber? cause i thought carbon fiber wont bend in half that easy

whitezenki
03-27-2007, 10:47 PM
honestly, i dont know the construction of the hood your gettin, but a real, completely CF hood is hard to come by, and is upwards of 1000 dollars, so most of the ones you see are not really complete CF, just an overlay with fiberglass or some other material that, while lighter than metal, is not CF

AutobahnRacer
03-27-2007, 11:01 PM
where can u even get a 1000 hood? lol i spent about 450 on the hood. 525 with shipping. JSP so i dunno. JSP just looked appealing

Mrjaydeeone
03-27-2007, 11:01 PM
^^^ he is absolutely right. they are just fiberglass with a carbon fiber overlay, and resin ontop of that. A completely CF hood would be very very expensive.

thanks a million, but is that fiberglass or carbon fiber? cause i thought carbon fiber wont bend in half that easy
where is there a bend? on the top passenger side of the hood that is all scuffed up and cracked

whitezenki

you have to import them usually, every once in awhile a place will get a few, but usually you got to talk to companies and get one imported....

i know where i would do it, but not for Hondas lol

450 ought to be good quality tho, that tends to be about the price for the better ones for S14's, so im assuming its good for you too

Willdue
03-27-2007, 11:38 PM
Yea, real cf is expensive, mine was 995$ on sale, so its def pinned.
