Well i always wanted a Nissan Maxima since my old neighbors dad had one and i just love the looks of it. Well about 3 years after they moved away i was finally old enough to drive so that was the car i sought after. It didnt take long to find because i think i must pass like 40 a day if not more. At first i found a 97 5spd but moms thought i wouldnt like driving manual that much so she said i had to learn how to drive stick first before i could buy it. Well i tried learning and i wasnt good so i kinda gave up. Then found a 97 GLE which was leather and auto. Then i started getting into modding it alittle just put rims on it and an intake. The rims are off of a murano and then low pros were added. 235/40/18s. The intake did nothing but added noise.

I was happy with it until i finally learned how to drive stick well enough that it was killing me to drive auto. I also realised that auto was like a whole second slow at the track then the manuals. So then i was looking for an I30. Pretty much the same thing as the maxima but if you could find one with a manual tranny it came with VLSD. Well that just took forever so then on maxima.org i found someone selling a black on black leather 99 with a supercharger on it. I know it sucks buying a car thats already modded 1) because you didnt acctually do the work and 2) because things already start to go wrong.

Well not long after i got it the alternaotor went out. Then about a month later i had to replace the tranny because of a factory defect in it (so i was told). Well after that got worked out the radio blew out on me. Oo well i thought because the sound of FI is just so nice. So after about 3 months of driving with no radio i put in a bookshelf radio just for noise. That didnt work out too well so another 3 months went by. Then i started a new job and my boss bet me that he could get an ipod to hook-up to the amps and speakers so i could have music all i would have to do if he did that was buy an ipod. Well it worked and i had radio. During the time with no radio i ended up installing a BBK on the car. Well this consisted of 300zx 4 piston calipers and 13inch 98 Mustang Cobra rotors. I loved this mod because the feeling of stopping was amazing. I went back to school and had a run in with a T/A and he was so pissed off because he couldnt pass me and yelled at me when we got to a stop saying we had to go from a dig. Well needless to say i kept up with him until i had to shift to 3rd and kept mis shifting. Owell i had like 300lbs of stuff in the car since me and my roomate were moving stuff back to school.

I finally got to the track and made 2 passes the first wasnt timed because the jerk to the right left b4 the tree started and i was sitten there and people were yelling at me to go so i did. Well 2nd run wasnt as good as the first and i spun 1st so badly i had a 2.708 60ft but the car made it up by the end in the trap with a 103.08@ 14.579. With a better 60ft i should have been in the mid to high 13s im sure. Well then driving home one day a n/a cobra and i were fooling around so he beat me and i was pissed so i wanted more power. I ended up thinking about future plans with the car and made my choices. I had the 2000 maxima variable intake installed, the injectors had to be switched to top feed which was good because i wanted the 3.5L later and that was top feed so i bought 555cc DW injectors, then the 300zx mafs was added, smaller pulley 2.87 good for about 14psi. and the greddy emanage ultimate to tune everything.

Took the car to the car show thing at the Saturn dealership and won best audio visual. Then sent the car off to Xotic for the EU to be installed and tuned. 3 weeks later i still had no car and need it because my family was moving. The car ran like crap because the EU never got fully installed and tuned and everytime i would slow down it was stall out on me. It was hard though because this part isnt direct for the maximas and only one other maxima had it working and his car was outta commission at that time.

Well december came and the car ended up dieing from something in the alarm system and i couldnt get it working. So i then traded it with the guy that installed my tranny because he always wanted a 99 Fed spec. We did a straight up trade and now i own a 97 with the 3.5L. He ran a 13.3 at 103 i believe and put down 240whp with headers, jwt stage 1 cams, exhaust, and an safc2. The day i got the car i took it to florida for spring break and it made it back and i was suprised at the gas mileage at 28mpg crusing at about 80. No real plans for this one at all just want to save up for an STi now. FWD for the loss.

03-23-2007, 10:35 PM
Holy crap man! You were all over the place with that car, and now you are thinking about saving up for an STI?

Was it the input bearing on the old tranny that went?

If you want to unload your new 97 for cheap in a few months, let me know!

03-24-2007, 04:39 PM
well i wont be getting rid of the new 97 for awhile since i wont have the money till around next spring for an STi.

I forget exactly what it was but a pin came loose in the tranny and then shot parts of it out. Ill post again when i look up the acctual answer that was told to me.

03-24-2007, 04:44 PM
Ahh, that sucks. I know the 5-speed transmissions were prone to input bearing issues. That's the only thing that scares me about buying a 5-speed, but mostly because I just had to deal with the same thing with my sentra.

I would be interested in seeing some pictures of your 3.5 as well.

Copied and posted from maxima.org

Tilley and I tore it down quick today - that shaft that goes through the differential broke into 3 pieces - and of course the one that started working its way out of the differential housing got stuck against the tranny housing and broke through it in 2 places. Looking at the face of the of the break in the piece of pinion shaft, it suggests a minor flaw in the surface of the shaft that initiated a small crack, and through fatigue it the crack opened up until the torque of driving simply snapped it. From that point, the inertia of the spinning differential pushed it out of the diff and into the housing where it snapped in half again. These kinds of flaws are unavoidable without doing really expensive inspections at the factory, so it falls in the category of 's h i t happens'. Easier driving might have delayed the failure but not prevented it.

bump for pics of the new 97. It still needs to get the rear valances on and the engin bay painted.

03-24-2007, 05:15 PM
Looks sharp dude! You should have come to the KOP neet today.

What does your momz do at Haverford again?

03-24-2007, 05:17 PM
Shes the one you pay your bills to. Shes in the business office accounts payable.

Would have came but didnt get up until 330. Took a trip to white castle last night at 230 in the morning.

03-24-2007, 05:53 PM
Somehow I missed the picture of the big honkin hole in the side of your transmission! Definitely not an input bearing issue! :D

The new car does not look too bad. I like the exterior color better then the red it used to be.

03-24-2007, 07:16 PM
Nice Maximas man!

03-25-2007, 05:19 PM
yea i like this color alot better. It looks so much better when its clean and the suns on it.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!!

03-25-2007, 05:27 PM

dyno update:

Old black supercharged max dynoed 300whp 258wtq with the jwt ecu not the EU that i had in the car. (JWT ecus make less power then stock ecu). There was also nothing controling the VIS open and closing so the tq number is lower then what it should be.

And the new gray max dyno 199.32whp and 216wtq. It had the worst curve ever because at 5200 the hp curve just died and went straight and the tq curve dove. 2.5k-5200 there was at least 197tq. The car is tuned really lean up top so thats where the loss is comming from in hp. When the car was tuned for power the best was 238whp and 226wtq. Im not complaining to much at all it was an experience in its own. Not too bad for 28mpg.

04-15-2007, 07:10 PM
nice max

Some pics from the WC meet.

05-24-2007, 05:43 PM
nice nice, i just got traded my blown sr20\5spd combo for a 96 maxima that needed a trans, so i put a trans in and man these cars rip. so i gave it to my girl. i like how u did the swap,im new to these cars now. how much did the swap run ya and how hard is it?

05-24-2007, 07:43 PM
the swaps been done for as alittle as 1000 i think. All you need to do is find a used 3.5 and then take the timing chain from the 3.0 and put it on the 3.5 in replace of the vtcs and then i think the cam has to be drilled out. Probally a weekend thing. Maxima.org and you can find out all the answers theres a stickey in the all motor section that can tell you everything. Other wise i can give you the number of the guy whos car the gray one used to belong to and he does the swaps for 3k i think.

05-26-2007, 02:10 PM
Car ride was gangsta : )

07-23-2007, 06:59 PM
nice ****in car dude. love the last one

07-24-2007, 03:52 PM
thanks man... I like it too but im going to save some money and buy a beater and then save for a house.

07-24-2007, 06:28 PM
Did you own a car around that had a bunch of lights on it and said sexima a few years ago. I always saw it around Drexel Hill area. It was a maxima, I think black, forget though.

07-24-2007, 09:12 PM
nope never had a bunch of lights just the stock ones. What kinda lights are you talking about? But that was the area i was living in then.

07-24-2007, 09:24 PM
I don't remember exactly.. maybe license plate frame lights.

07-24-2007, 11:04 PM
you're such a pimp tom.

07-25-2007, 12:38 AM
I don't remember exactly.. maybe license plate frame lights.

nope deff not me

you're such a pimp tom.

thanks greg i aspire to be just that. If only this damn car was rwd i could have turned vip style.

01-01-2008, 04:01 PM
bump.. just got the car back from getting my 6spd installed with the Sentra Spec V HLSD and 4.25 final gears. It pulls so muchs nicer shifts smoother and is just all around a lot better.

Some plans within the month, removing the power valve in the intake manifold and the shelf in there to free up some top end power at the loss of some low, but it already has too much power down low for front wheel drive id say. Spining from 2nd gear take off just sucks. And then when thats going off to powdercoating and then the spacers getting installed and a retune and im looking for 270whp.

01-01-2008, 08:44 PM
the thing is nasty!!!!

02-10-2008, 05:12 PM

my new aem wideband and had it retuned on saturday. Feel like a completly different car!

02-10-2008, 05:25 PM

Really sweet Maxima, makes me miss my old 3rd and 4th gens. Long live the VQ

10-26-2008, 03:33 PM

Its yellowmsps old car. Thought my beater civic was dead and didnt feel like fixing it so I wanted a nice car and scott told me to buy his. Scott took care of all the exterior looks for me, my plans are the STi swap, already ordered the DP and AP, and then some suspension things, then ill leave it at that.

Freaking love this car though awd is fun!

More pictures to come once scott and i get some free time to do another photoshoot

10-26-2008, 03:36 PM
Its a LGT, no need for an STi swap, the Ej255 is essentially a EJ257.

10-26-2008, 03:50 PM
by sti swap I mean the intake mani, fmic, turbo, tb think that's all the parts still need to read more on it

10-26-2008, 04:07 PM
There's no point in doing an intake manifold... they aren't a bottleneck by any large degree. And you can't do TB easily, unless the LGT has the same drive by wire system the STi does, which I doubt.

10-26-2008, 07:02 PM
the point of the intake manifold is so that the sti fmic and turbo can bolt up to it i believe.

10-26-2008, 09:04 PM
stis dont come with a fmic - if your going fmic just buy an aftermarket setup made for LGT

10-26-2008, 09:28 PM
typo on my part I knew that

Stillen GLE
10-26-2008, 09:40 PM
i have a maxima there sweet.

10-26-2008, 10:27 PM

10-27-2008, 12:49 PM
nice car

you should of brought me the car for a tune, and saved 510.00

plus have a better tune than the ap stages. i can also tune your ap though

he has no choice, we are doing this with our lgt as we speak. the turbos on the lgt are flanged different and the tb has a different placement.
