View Full Version : 12 Hours of Sebring pics
i took like 500 pics but alot of them didnt come out good, and the night ones were noisy. i only had a 18-70mm lens so i did my best with picking good spots to shoot.

Nice shots! Unfortuantly they don't have speed here so I couldn't watch the coverage. I think next time around I'm going to Mid Ohio. My buddy works at Pratt & Miller so we'll get free pit passes!

Pretty cool that you could be there to take it all in.
yeah it was my christmas gift to go there, my dad took me. i have alot more photos, unfortunately i suck at panning, so most of them came out bad and the night shots werent too well without a tripod and a F/3.5 lens, 1600 iso was noisy as hell too

pretty long pit, must of been doin some electrical work.
i know last year they did like a few major pits, one of them was a new turbo, and a tranny swap, took them like 10 minutes, i have some video of the pit from the above pics
one of my fav shots, he was actually posin for a photographer below
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v628/LBCsublime9/sebring/DSC_0004.jpg
2 cool shots i was lucky to capture, u can see the position board, the number 1 car was in 5th and finished 4th cuz it was rear ended in the pits and needed some body work

the easiest way to practice is to stand alongside a highway (no joke). Since you're using a Nikon, I'd suggest prefocusing at a specific area where you'll release your shutter and then shoot on Manual Focus. This way you can focus on panning the camera with the vehicle and not have to rely on the autofocus mechanism. Another way to practice are the local SCCA Solo II autocrosses.
When the cars are doing 150+, you can use shutter speeds of around 1/200-1/250 and still get a good amount of motion blur. For cars doing 50-60mph, shutter speeds of around 1/80-100 are good to start. As you get better, you can hand hold down to about 1/40-1/60; after that you'll need a monopod.
i have went there for the past three 3yrs it is incredable (sp) maybe next year i think we might take down our toter and stay there, you should taken pics off all the people camping it's insane. you can just go peoples camp and have food drinks and stuff, get into people cars for rides, go to bars next to the track that people have set up, its kinda like mardigras. sure the racing id fun but when the sun goes down its party time. people rent like uhaul truck or penske trucks and get scaffolding and build platforms and put couches onto of it and christmas lights everywhere.
oh yeah if you wanted to take home any souvenirss like broken body panels and broken parts and wheels, wait till the end of the next day and it is like a buffet of carbon fiber peices and wheels and metals one time where were there three week before the race, testing for our race and all the P1 and P2 teams where showing up for testing before the race and and we were watching them setting up and we stayed like three hour extra before we had to leave the track to watch them get ready for testing and stuff, they let us actually get really close to the audi R10 and the porsches and lola's it was really cool
i was tryin to get shots of the brakes heatin up and the back fires but i wasnt lucky, it looks like this one has the front discs all red hot but its too early into the turn to brake so i dunno
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v628/LBCsublime9/sebring/DSC_0139.jpg
BMS, i was using 80-100 shutter speed for most the shots, probaly should of raised it a bit. id love to get some car parts lol, we left the next morning tho, our hotel was an hour and a half a way. at the end of the race every1 ran onto to the track to see the podium, i ripped audi banners off the track wall but they were like duct tape material on the back so it was all crumbled up into a ball it kept rippin when i tried pullin the sticky side apart. i got a mobile 1 banner tho that was on a fence. i brought down a media guide and bought a picture, they were suppose to have autograph session but it was pouring like crazy that day and i didnt get a chance, i was real excited for that too.
here was the crew next to us, they were punchin in lap times and stuff, they had a tv set up too with speed channel on

i remeber watching the race on speed channel in the the chateau elan sitting on a couch while the race was litterally 100 ft from me it was really cool and really lazy. i think once i fell alseep
i love these motion shots

thnx for sharing pictures, too bad they didnt all come out good but the ones you posted are nice :)
thanks, i think if i go again ill have to buy a f/2.8 70-200mm, f/1.8 50mm or a f/1.8 85mm
yeah some drivers stay there but mostly owners and sponors. the hotel is real nice, it has a pool and spa it is at turn 7 the
yeah i seen the hotel, best alarm clock would be a race car flyin by outside ur room every 2 minutes. the first day i went to see them practice i was surprised how loud the cars were, it was unbelieable, and when u walk over them bridges, since its enclosed when cars go under u its twice as loud.
gettin ready for the finish

or rent some good glass.

Rent Glass is inexpensive but it's tough to find the telephoto lenses in stock.
i couldnt pass up these shots so i pulled out my camera and took a few pics of the city. on the way home i could see the ocean pretty much the whole way, and when we got up to philly i was able to wildwood and u can see all the casinos in atlantic city, we had to fly over into jersey and make a u turn, there must be alot of potholes in the sky in jersey cuz that was one bumpy hell of a turn.
it sucks goin from clean florida with palm trees to dirty philly with snow!
it was one of the best times i had, id reccomended goin to see it atleast once, i can see myself goin back again, 12 hours is pretty long though. if i had the money id go to the last race of the year in laguna seca, 4 hours is a perfect amount of time too.

yeah i was gonna rent one from that site but they neve had anything in stock, plus u had to pay for shipping and stuff. the local shop was renting them for 50 bucks a day, not worth it for me, they had a nice used 80-200mm lens for like 600-800 bucks, couldnt afford that and wouldnt have much use for it so i bought a used 18-70 for 250, its a pretty nice lens and id get alot of use out of it.
as for the car it was the fastest thing ive driven, im use to drivin a truck. we floored it and it didnt shift into 5th gear until like 120, and we brought it up to 140 and let off, there was cops like every 15 minutes so thats too risky. the 0-60 was good too. with the mods it had 325 hp.
ill definetly get some videos up tomorrow, im goin to sleep now, thanks for checkin out the pics

One of the best ALMS races ever. I'm glad I went, and I'm extremely pissed it's gone.
Nice pictures!
It sounds like you didn't venture into Green Park? Being in Green Park alone after the race is over was one of the scariest moments in my life. There were about 30 cops/security guards trying to control 20,000 race fans that have been drinking for 12 hours. It's basically a riot with fires being started, people hacking up old furniture with axes, illegal fireworks going off, fights breaking out, public nudity, guys doing jackass-style stunts, etc. It's absolutely insane.
I seen shirts they were selling that said green park, I had no effin clue wat it was or anything, it had a picture of an alligator or something, I thought it was some kind of zoo, by ur description I guess it was a zoo. Where exactly is it? Oh yeah lets see them pics of the DC race
