View Full Version : red flags to look for on a used Audi A4
someone I know is in the market for a Audi A4 1.8t and had found one for sale near where he lives with 58k miles on it. I dont know much about audi or the 1.8t motor at all but I have heard that a few things are prone to go wrong with these cars. I hoping one of you experts out there can give me something to look for.
the car is a loaded 5mt 2002 Audi 1.8t quattro 58k

if you maintain them properly they are fine... like any car... but they are expensive to maintain.

I have a 1.8t and knock on wood have never had any problems. You just have to keep up on the regular service and you will be fine. Espically the oil changes!

If it has service records look for coil pack replacements they go bad and audi has a hugeee issue with them. It is a tsb but i dunno about how that would work after wrranty even tho it is a known issue.

vaccuum lines are crap, valve cover gasket tends to need to be done about 60K (on average), front suspension will cost you a bundle, if it has the 2 upper control arms. just make sure u use 0W40 synthetic for oil, audi has a TSB for that, if i think of anymore i'll tell u.
The coilpacks like everyone has said.

take a picture of the coilpacks that your sisters's car has. I have a few laying around (still good) from previous ones that i've replaced.
