nah unfortunalty in this big limo the only transmission available all over the world is a 6 speed auto. supposedly it shifts nearly as fast and revmatches downshifts like the DSG equiped golf based audis and vws. i will post some driving impressions too.

yes it actually makes more torque then the gallardo which is interesting...i am going to take the car to AWE at some point...they want to "tune" it. :mrgreen:

my father works reallly freakin hard and has been in sort of a slump lately. we have been tryng to find him a car for the better part of 2 years. We have been looked at everything from the Acura RL to the 911 turbo and bentley gt. Ever since he saw the first promo pics it always came back to the S8.
so back in november i dragged him to the dealership made him sit down and we built out the car. This is the first time i have ever seen him get genuinly excited over somthing material in my life.

the porsche is to much of a sports car for him...and the bentley is way to showy has less stuff, drives like a pig (albeit a very fast pig) and costs like 40 grand more. the s8 is a perfect balance.

indeed. to me a car can't be a status symbol but sort of an extension of your personality. he should be picking up...at the latest early next week. he is trying to get a lower rate from a couple banks and our salesman just had a baby on sunday, so no one is rushing. I think he will crack before then though.

Acura RL-
Nice car...not terribly attractive or powerful. kinda blended into the background. price was right.

Bentley Conti GT/ Flying Spur-
he liked these cars a lot but the image wasnt him.

Maserati Quattroporte-
really pretty car in person, drives very well, gearbox is a little finicky as well as financing, leasing, and reliability issues.

BMW M5, M6, 760i-
drove beamers for the past 13 years...current styling, asshole dealerships soured him on the brand.

Porsche Carrera S, Carrera 4S, Turbo-
Obviously all great cars, the Turbo which came out later actually made the most sense financially. because similarly optioned CS and C4S were close to the same price. In the end he found it to be a little to much car for him.

Mercedese Benz E55, E63, S550, S600, CLS500, CLS55, CLS63-
poor lease and finance rates kept him out of most of these, that and he never really warmed up to MB since his 1988 300E

Lamborghini Gallardo-
yea that didnt last long. :(

Corvette-
same issues with the porsche, also wasnt really a good fit personality wise.

Infiniti M45-
cool car, handled very well. didnt feel terribly special and interior build quality basically wasnt euro enough. hehe

Jaguar XJ, XK, XKR-
the XJ made him feel like he was 85 years old. He loved the XK's styling but it was underpowered and underoptioned the XKR wasnt really worth the extra cash either.

Aston Martin DB9, Vantage-
gorgious cars, too james bond.

Audi A8, S6, S8-
loved the A8...lacked in power. If he bought an S6 he would regret not getting an S8. this will be my dads third audi...his first was an orange 1973 100ls which he owned back in Lebanon. The second he bought in 1984, a dark blue 5000 turbo. so there is some sentimental value with this brand.
