Well....here's the thing....

No, I traded it in. I missed the Subaru community a whole lot more than the EVO community. Nothing against most of the EVO owners I know, but the Subaru comunity is more like a family.

hey carwidow, have you installed your utec yet? If so, how do you like it? I'm looking into getting one for my 02 WRX sedan. From what I've heard so far, it seems like a great engine management solution.

sorry. I just reallized you posted that you were getting it tuned july 9. I need to learn how to read.

the mike
06-26-2005, 07:31 PM
Actually it went in today, but there were a few issues. The original user had a VF22 so all the settings were off.
All good now though!

TehWagon
06-27-2005, 08:19 AM
indeed - just loading a stage 2 map and screwing with the boost i'm already seeing improvement :) :drag:

seneca
06-27-2005, 09:11 AM
what kind of boost did you decide to run on that staged map?

the mike
06-27-2005, 09:19 AM
The stage 2 map(stock TXS until the 9th)is set up to see about 16.5 or so under load in 5th.
I was a little conservative with the boost gain to keep the spiking down. Better safe than sorry, right Ash? ;)

TehWagon
06-27-2005, 09:21 AM
indeed. i think it spiked at 16.8 on the more agressive map if i can remember correctly, but i think the lower octane map, which i'll use for daily driving, was only set for 15.5...

seneca
06-27-2005, 09:50 AM
Do you know what people out west would do to be able to run a 93 octane map day in and day out? WTF mate? Raise up and spend that extra 20 cents a gallon or whatever.

TehWagon
06-27-2005, 09:56 AM
first of all, it's 'm8'. if you're going to save time with the 'wtf' you might as well do it on the follow-up word too.
noice work, clanky.
secondly, i may do that someday soon, but i am scurred to eff anything up... baby steps, mang- :wiggle:

seneca
06-27-2005, 10:00 AM
good gas = knock prevention. If you want to be super safe run 93 on the low octane map but personally I would fill her up with 93 switch over to the high octane staged map and give it rip. Watch the knock count like a hawk and try and vary the load as much as possible to hit all the different columns. (go up and down hills)

TehWagon
06-27-2005, 10:06 AM
i thought you meant 94 - yes i've run 93 since i got the car-
no lappy no software means i can't monitor knock hence the being careful- but i'll see what i can do-

seneca
06-27-2005, 10:11 AM
your cel will flash if it knocks but a laptop is a MUCH better option casue you can log the evemt and go back and see waht was occuring leading up to the knock event.

TehWagon
06-27-2005, 10:16 AM
workin on it already- sheesh- screw stripping i'm going to start robbing banks- :bigeek:

the mike
06-27-2005, 10:18 AM
You do have the getaway car with that quiet ass exhaust.

:finga:

seneca
06-27-2005, 10:20 AM
So mike, you are fond of the new setup? I think it sounds very nice from the little I heard of it. Glad to see my old parts getting some good use.

the mike
06-27-2005, 10:25 AM
More jealous than fond. . I am getting my stealthback this week :knocks wood:.

seneca
06-27-2005, 10:27 AM
what axleback are you going to be running? prodrive like ash?

TehWagon
06-27-2005, 10:28 AM
did you find one??
yes he wants teh prodrive-

the mike
06-27-2005, 10:32 AM
I was going to buy James' Prodrive but someone bought it first.

I talked a guy in MI into selling his Stealthback with the GodSpeed CEL fix. w00t!

And yes, Prodrive all the way.

Noice.
are you still trading or no?
and hey- i didn't even know you liked them at the time! (not that i wouldn't have bought it from under ya if i knew! :finga: )

seneca
06-27-2005, 10:49 AM
That exaust NEVER threw a cel on my STi whether with the RFl or the stock axleback. Better get that cel fix in there.

TehWagon
06-27-2005, 10:53 AM
my cel was on with that exhaust until we put the utec in and then i guess whatever settings the utec has deletes cel's...

seneca
06-27-2005, 10:56 AM
There is a setting in the utec that IGNORES cels. IMHO you dont want that set to yes else you will never know if you have a problem.

TehWagon
06-27-2005, 10:59 AM
CONCUR. was going to pull the code first- make sure it was the 02 that was settign it off, then once the fix is in, set the utec back so it doesn't ignore it..

the mike
06-27-2005, 12:35 PM
The UTEC is not set to turn off the CEL's. If there is a CEL it will show up.
I 'splaineded that yesterday. Stoopid.

TehWagon
06-27-2005, 12:42 PM
i forgot what we wound up doing... oops

I am jealous...I wish they made a UTEC for my car!

TehWagon
06-28-2005, 12:07 PM
hrm - i think maybe AEM is a good one for dsm's i've heard? yea you should DEF. be jealous of my credit card debt... but i must... go... fastAr!!! :drag:

hrm - i think maybe AEM is a good one for dsm's i've heard? yea you should DEF. be jealous of my credit card debt... but i must... go... fastAr!!! :drag:Haha AEM is wayyyy smarter then me, we have DSMLink but I can't throw that onto my Gameboy Advanced nor my car w/o spending an extra $250 for the correct ECU (stupid non e-prom)! I am still stupid slow for that stuff anyways, I still need a palm logger dang it.

TehWagon
06-28-2005, 12:43 PM
yea the utec kicks my a$$ as far as being complicated- i am so afraid to eff anything up-- thank god for knowledgeable (sp? - [wouldn't want to upset ivan...]) friends! :prayer:

seneca
06-28-2005, 12:48 PM
when you decide you no longer like the way the stock ecu handles things and want to tune them yourself it will always get complicated regardles of which EM you choose. Personally, I think you made the right one Ashley.

TehWagon
06-28-2005, 01:01 PM
hey thanks

joe tom
06-28-2005, 01:51 PM
hey ash,
do you always have to have a laptop in the car to tune? or can you do that elsewhere? (i don't know much about the utec...fill me in :wiggle: )

TehWagon
06-28-2005, 01:59 PM
heh- that makes two of us! yes you should have a lappy in the car if you're messing w/boost, logging data, etc... the boost controller isn't too precise (esp my stupid stock one with mPa measurements!) so it helps to see precisely what the boost is, if there's any knock, etc etc... i hope to get one soon but am borrowing them until i get one w/the software etc... and yes if you are officially tuning it's a must to have it in the car... but i'm not even going near that one-

the mike
06-28-2005, 02:10 PM
You don't NEED a laptop to load maps, there is a 9V adapted so you can upload maps from your PC.
You do, however, need a laptop to do any datalogging, map adjustments, or parameter changes. A laptop allows you to see what the A/F is, whether you are getting knock, shows you how much boost your MAP sensor is seeing, among other things.

There is a serial cable that stays in the car, usually next to the seat. Just plug it in, pull up hyperterminal, and voila.
