My friend Chris, our women, and I went down early Sunday morning to Atco to do some early time trials. We both had goals in which we surpassed with conditions that the usual racers find unfavorable. Track temp was in the high 30s, wind gust of 25+ mph and on and off snow flurries.

We took my Silver S3r with toys out first with our Mickey Thomspon Slicks and ran three runs. My first run was the second pass of the day and I opened up with a 11.8@115. The second run I just looped around and went back in line in which the car got a little heat soaked but still ran a 11.8@115. Slicks were set at 11psi and I adjusted them down to 9psi. At this point I went back around and let the car cool down. With the car cooled down, I got back up to the line and launched at only 4200RPM because I had issues with the slickers not being able to hold in first too well. This video says the rest....

http://www.youtube.com/v/gU6ONrNXUcM

To sum it up I was on stock S3 wga hitting 18-19lbs with HOM holding with a quater tank of MS109. Mods are as follows...
Mopar Stage 3 with Toys (Steel Wheel)
Mopar Short Throw Shifter
Mopar Cold Air Intake
Mopar Stage 1 Lowering Springs
Mopar High Performance Clutch
Mopar High Performance Spark Plug Wires
Needswings V6 Cutout with Mccord Plate
PSI FI Direct Fit FMIC
JMB Pressure Pipe Package with HKS SSQV Bov
Prothane Motor Mount Inserts

Three flawless runs on the Silver was good enough for me. Now it was time for Chris to play with his Stage 2 with toys set up. Chris only has Stage 2 with toys, Needswings V5 cutout, 3" O2 Housing, Forward Motion WGA setup on stock lines, AEM Cold Air Intake and a short throw shifter. The first time ever at the track with his SRT and the first time ever obviously with slicks on he cut a 12.4@108. All of us very excited with the time, he rounded for another pass. Once again the video will speak for itself...

Very nice times. 12.4 on slicks stock turbo is pretty good. I wish I would have gotten to run mine on slicks. I would been almost in the 11's with the slicks stock turbo.

Congrats on the times, very nice. I saw you guys there, I lent you the breaker bar if you remember.

I was thinking about running but didnt think I would hook with my drag radials. I busted an axle Friday night so I was just to fix it and just decided to hang around for a while.

Yea his best was in the video of 12.3@108.... It sure is impressive what these cars are capable when you don't hack them up LOL.

Ha thanks again for helping my buddy out with that, I guess he tries to make sure his lug nuts are on there extra tight :screwy: You should have ran the track wasn't that bad, i'm sure if it was a little warmer we both could have hooked better.

 It was not referred to you. It was younger guys that don't do research on the car and throw on a boost controller on a stock pcm running 21 lbs of boost wondering why his car doesn't break 13s...

hey thats me in the car behind you. those neons were moving, I raced a white or silver one, I forget which, that went 11.8 @ 115. I couldn't get any kind of traction what so ever, even with ET streets I was all over the track. usually its the FWD guys having problems launching, not RDW and AWD. LOL you were that Z06???? Your car sounded and looked very intimidating with the supercharger whining away, skinnies in the front, et streets on the back :bigeek:. I was like ok i'm going to get raped, but it suprisingly went the other way lol. I was like ohhhhhh boy. I'm the one with the silver that ran you running 11.8 that pass. I ran a 11.6 about an hour later. I'll have to have my buddy post up our run we got it on video.

yeah please do, I would love to have a clean vid of one of my passes.

that car you have moves, I wasn't expecting you to come out of the hole like that at all, and maintain your lead. very nicely driving. I would like a rematch when the weather is a little warmer

carazyguy
03-09-2007, 08:05 AM
Have you ever run your car in nicer weather? You have a full second of catching up to do, and my car isn't all complete yet lol. I'm only on 18-19lbs when the car with an aftermarket s3 wga will be around 22lbs. But besides bench racing what does your car put down on the dyno and at what boost?

noclutch
03-09-2007, 10:22 AM
Haha, he just got the car and that was the first time at the track. He really couldnt even stay into it to redline in any gear so Im gonna say the car has a little more in it. I think it dyno'ed somewhere in the 550whp range?

against you was my first ever pass in the car, I only made four that day and they ranged from 12.0 @ 113 - 13.0 @ 103. Traction was my enemy as noclutch stated, I kept getting sideways from 2nd -4th gear when I would shift so I called it quits early. cold weather + 500whp = no traction :screwy:

nobody is making excuses, you did get a better ET then me.

I've been in the position before where I've beaten a car that should be much faster then I am but for whatever reason they weren't. I personally didn't consider it a win because I knew there is no way it could have been a fair race.

it only has heads, cam, a blower & tires. its running on low boost till some issues get worked out, its making around 500 at the wheels. traction is pretty hard to come by though, I think thats the reason for the crappy times. :screwy:

im not concerned with the times, mph shows power and that is not 500HP mph right there...a old freind of mine had a bone stock z06 and went a best of 12.2 at 112 and change....i think you need a new tuner or something is def wrong not trying to bash just saying....

alwaysinboost
03-19-2007, 07:55 PM
thanks for the input, I appreciate it. I think that maybe the dyno I was using reads high or something because I agree 113mph traps don't = 500hp in a 3500# car.

03-19-2007, 11:41 PM
3500??? is this a convertable?? where did you take it to get dynoed?? i know some local places that do good work...on a good head, cam, tire and blower vette there is no problem not to be dipping in the 10's with ease at high 120's i would think.

3520 - 3540 I believe is what it weighed last time I was at the track.

damn, so you think I should be running 10s @ 120 huh. the car feels a lot faster then my timeslip said thats why I think the timers were off that day... I'm going to the track one more time next week, if I don't go 10s or trap 120 like you said I think I'm going to trade it in on a neon srt4 on Saturday.

Just let one of the SRT-4 drivers run it down the track. You know they can drive. If they cant do it then its time to sell it. WHo built that car? They dunno how to toon the ls1.

fyi they didn't make a convertable Z06.

I THINK the dyno for the vette was high, and the blower is actually pushing air the WRONG way, hence creating a vacuum in the intake instead of boost and making it slower than a stock z06.

alwaysinboost- try turning the blower around to see if it helps. if that doesn't work i'd just trade it in for the srt4. turbo fwd 4 cylinder> supercharged rwd 8 cylinder any day of the week.

its drive by wire but I'll check the floor mats, I hear they can get caught behind the pedal and essentially do the same thing you described.

Good point, I was talking to a guy who knows alot about SC cars and he said if the impeller is installed backwards it will be like having a big boost leak... I'll bet thats what happened. I'm going to try and flip it around the other way and see what happens.

03-21-2007, 08:51 PM
IF you can get a look at the impeller blades you should be able to tell..What kind of kit could actually let this happen though??Either way when it is sorted out it will pretty much eat 99% of the "skittles" we cal neons, I mean srt4's at the track, and then drive home while they are still putting there other tires back on..Good point, I was talking to a guy who knows alot about SC cars and he said if the impeller is installed backwards it will be like having a big boost leak...
