Okay first let me say these pictures I did not take.. I took them from various sites. I myself have done this but have never taken the pictures... so I found some to help show you what I am talking about while I explain the process...
also with this a flex pipe wwill be used instead of a cat....

So lets have some fun!!!!!

Parts
peice of 2.5 pipe : 6.99
weld on collector rings: 9.76 (4)
flex pipe kit: 40.95
collector gaskets: 8.78(4) only really needed one

Header on car with flex pipe attached

Disconnect flex pipe from car

now you want to make a new one.. first we want to weld on some flanges so the flex pipe will bolt onto the header and exhaust

now bolt the flex pipe on your car

Now you can see how long you need to make it sorta... so remove the header if it is 2 piece design you only need to remove the bottom half

Now grab the pipe and we are gonna try and make it into a oval

this can be done simply with a vise.. just be careful and take your time

now place pipe next to header and see where on the header you are gonna need to cut it

weld pipe onto header
http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/5131/collectormod042bo6.jpg

now hold/place header under car as it will sit so you can see where in the pipe you will need to cut it and put your flange.. then cut and weld the flange on
