I have this camera....

http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/s/img/fuji-finepix-s5200-177x150.gif

its a Fuji Finepix S5200

can anybody tell me its capabilities?

I read the manual when I got it but it all read as gibberish to me.

I just want to know if its the same as a common point and shoot or does it have any other features I can use....

<<photography illiterate.

I had the s5000 , took some nice shots with it...for a regular camera you can do quite a bit with it. You can actually do alot of different settings...its pretty close to a slr withouth the ability to change lenses. It has a pretty decent zoom on it too. I loved it. I sold mine to a guy in the U.K and he emailed me telling me how much he loved it.

Took this shot with mine...i really like it...i was pretty far away too

ah, there we go... the whole 'stay on topic' thing still applies here too, so i started a new thread for these non-macro posts where you can talk about your camera, etc.

Ummm this camera came out in 1977 I don't think they even knew what that was. Lol. I was just playin this camera takes 600 film I believe and its like $40.00 a box for twenty pictures. I havent even used this camera yet because the film is so expensive. I have tried to use the original film and lets just say after 30 yrs the film wont even stay together. It's cool to show ppl though.

Read the sticky at the top of the page explaining the basics of photography. Basically shooting good shots comes down to your eye. That being said you do need to know how to get what you want out of your equipment. I shoot primarily aperture priority. Wich determines the actual depth of the photo that is in focus. The lower the f# the shallower the ammount of the shot taken will be in focus. But at the same time the lower the f# the larger the actual opening inside the lens is, hence you can shoot at a faster shutter speed. You also have some iso adjustability. Iso is the sensitivity to light that you camera will read. Now you might think to just put it on the highest sensitivity and your set but not so fast... The higher your iso the more sensitive to light your shots will be but there is a trade off" like most settings in the camera" and that trade off will come in this instance"high iso" with what is known as "noise". The photo will look grainy in low light situations. Basically if your shooting in full sunlight set the camera to your lowerst iso setting, wich in you case is 64. If it's sunset and you need more light move up the iso to like 400-600 until the desired effect is reached. That being said even if your maxed out on your iso you can get more light by dropping your F# or aperture to it's lowest setting. Remember when you do this it will drop your dof "Depth of field" "the amount of the photo that's in focus" too. There are compromises for everything in photography, The trade off for having more of you photo in focus is less light so you raise the iso then you may get a graing photo. One comprimise is made to get a more desirable aspect of the photo to come out. Hope this helps. But it may just confuse you more.

I picked up a couple of books from borders...just need to find time to read them...your camera can do quite a bit. I think its a great camera...fits in between a simple point and shoot and a dslr.

My first digital was a Finpix S5100. It really taught me alot about photography, because of all the settings. Beside reading the stickies about aperture, shutter speed etc... you really got to practice. What I would do is pick a feature and practice with just that for a few days. Take shutter priority mode for example(thats the S on the dial) just go out and practice shooting moving objects at different shutter speeds to see how it effects your pics. Once your more comfortable with that you can try Aperture priority mode(the A on the dial) and practice shooting subjects at different f/stop numbers, and see how it effects your depth of field(basically how much of the frame is in focus). I had to read my manual so many times I cant remember. just keep reading and then practice, it'll eventually start to make sense. Luckily there are alot of photographers on this site that dn't mind helping out.
Also all the stuff that ibepressin said is right on
