View Full Version : Anybody have XMODS rc cars?

TROLL

I got an XMODS STi for my bday from my sister... it didnt excite me too much, and I kinda forgot about it. After messing around with Sincere's modified one a couple days ago I totally want to modify mine too and make it more fun . I just ordered some wide metal bearings, and plan to get the AWD and Drift tires. There is also a resistor you can wire in to greatly increase the steering angles of the car, which is a necessity in my opinion. I still need to find a rechargeable battery option, but I'll worry about that later.
Anyways, anybody else into this stuff? I'm a noob to it... just trying to make the car fun without spending much.

i got a fully modded supra with awd, cf drive shaft, body kit, hid's, 5 sets of rims, special lugnuts, full race suspension, stage 2 motor set, tires and a bunch of other stuff i dont remember.....havent used it in a while...also have a spare supra shell and spare civic shell

I bought a Supra when they first came out. Walked out of Radio Shack and wanted to kick myself for spending that much money on it. It was fun for like....a week. I don't even remember what I have done. I think I got all the motors, body kits, lights, tires, wheels. Hmm...maybe I'll bust it back out and start modding that too.

Sounds like someone needs to bring out some cones, setup a track and race these cars.

I use to be into RC cars. Back when I was 15-16 I had a Tamiya Fox, Tamiya Hotshot, RC 10 fully modded and then converted to truck, 4-5 Schumacher Cats, Kyosho Stinger MK2 gas powered 1/10th scale, and Kyosho Burns gas powered 1/8th scale and several other little cars.

I've wanted to get back into it but without any kind of regular organized racing the fun dies off pretty fast. There are only so many curbs you can jump and trees you can hit, lol.

If this works out I'll get one. Sounds like these are road cars and probably rwd. How fast are they?

i just bid on a rwd skyline....they are that quick but they drift cool.

they arent normal rc cars, and although some guys dump a lot of money into them i think they have pretty limited potential compared to some of the larger more serious rc cars out there. they are 1/28 scale i think and cost $50 to start. they are pretty slow out of the box, but the real kicker is that the steering sucks. however there is a resistor you can wire in to make the steering much more sensitive.
luckily i found a forum called www.xmodworld.com and there is a ton of info on there, i cant believe how much time and money people spend on this stuff.
anyways, once modded a bit they can be fun, but they are definitley meant for smooth surfaces. linoleum is a good way to go and so are wood floors. concrete or a relatively smooth driveway would work well too.

One of my RC cars would do 50mph++. It was fun for about 2sec till it went out of range and I lost control and crashed it. It sat for two weeks waiting for parts, lol. I never got to race it at the track so it was more of a show car. Only pulled it out when someone asked about it. That thing was a mistake.

If we all got the same type of car then it would be fun no matter how slow or cumbersome the car. It would be all about driver skill and tuning.

And price of entry is not too restrictive so I bet we could get a bigger group going, eventually. Maybe setup races with stock and modified classes. :supz:

i would be glad to sell my entire set up for $100 if any one is intersted....that includes all 3 shells, the car, and all upgrades....im sorry i know its supposed to be in the for sale section but i thought it kind of fit here...if any one is interested let me know...my car is pretty quick though...and the xmods can go up to 41mph with just the stage 2 motor if tuned properly

I'm interested. Bring it to Absolute Steaks and I'll bring some money just in case.

Btw, what kind of car do you have and or how do I find you.

Not sure which car I'll be bringing. The red Honda Pilot is guaranteed to take me there. I'd like to bring the DSM though.

I saw you all playing with them last night and wanted to jump in... those things are cool. I'm really tempted to go out and get one, but this stuff always ends up collecting dust after a month or so. If you have them at the next meet I want to take a look, see if it's worth it. :D If people brought them every week it would be badass, I'd definitely get one.

i'm looking into some lithium kits... if i get 3 kits which include everything needed to install including a charger he can do them at $40 each... maybe if a couple more people get in on it we can bring it down a little more... but he said its a pretty tight profit margin.

Pete, You just need to go to radioshack and get the 1/4Watt 3.3K Ohm resistors. Then you wire 2 of them to the servo motor. BTW YOU BOUGHT THE SAME SKYLINE AS ME YOU BASTARD!!!

Ah whatever, i expected an STI outta you. Brian, Matt and myself are going to get our lithium kits from another place. I just havent ordered them yet. If you wanna get in on the order it will only make it cheaper for us. It will come out to be lik $32.

If you arent that great with the soldering you can come over sometime and i can wire in the resistors.

TROLL

I have it the batteries in my shopping cart all ready to go I'm just waiting on pete to see how many of them he wants. If each of you get 4 batteries or 2 sets then it looks like it will be $34, pete if you wan 3 sets or 6 batteries it'll be $40.

THe only thing that you guys would need to buy in addition would be to go to radio shack and get 2 single "AA" battery holders for the car, and 1 dual AA battery holder for the charger. They cost $1 and $1.5 respectivly. I'll do all the wiring for you guys and I have the the wires and everything else needed.

So all i'm waiting for is you pete, just let me know and I'll put the order in.

Just place the order, Stuff should arrive around next week. I do need the cash at the meet though so i can cover everything. Brian and Matt, I need 34 from each of you and 40 from Pete. This should be a cool upgrade. I may stop at radioshoack while at work and I'll pick up som of the battery holders if they have enough.

Are you sure you blew up the motor and not the speed controller. I've never seen an electric motor fry before the electronics took a dump. Of course I've never had xmod cars....

Back in the day, I smoked a $200 novak speed controller with a crazy fast motor. It went about 200 feet and the car just stopped. Like running oxygen instead of nitrous, haha.
