Been looking for cheap subies myself, if you decide to pas on that let me know I'll take it for a few hundred, from what I've been searching pretty much any motor will "bolt" in to any trans too, if you do swap it to a 5 speed you need to swap the rear also...the hardest parts of the swap seems to be the wiring but with some patients and a wiring diagram you can figure it out, I searched on google and NASIOC and found a lot of info...i made a post on here if you want to search for it and posted some links to some real good info on swaps and auto to manual swap too...

I am purchasing one soon. The swap is not easy but it is far from hard. You can swap anything 95 and up into it.

Any subaru 4 cylinder along with any transmission subaru makes which match up to the 4 cylinder motors can be made to fit into that chassis. Any. This includes everything from the v1 1994 WRX/STi all the way to 2007 WRX/STi motors. This includes all 2.0 and 2.5L motors. The EZ30 and the EJ30 can be made to fit with ease as well.

95 is gonna be more wiring due to it being OBD1 if your gonna swap a newer engine in VS 96 and up being OBD2 for say a USDM wrx swap.

According to my swapper teh dirt inc.. obd 1 is only a problem if you want to keep the dash, if you do a gdb dash swap your golden.

Well coming from the Honda world OBD1 seems to be the best platform...OBD2 is just a pain and un-hackable...but I guess most engine management for Subies are standalones...can you just swap over the OBD1 sensors if needed, from my research it seemed that most of the OBD1 and OBD2 stuff was similar just like the coil packs and one or 2 sensors were different but swapable from your old motor to the new...I mean correct me if i am worng i just have been searching but i don't have any hands on experience yet...still looking for a cheap impreza...but i may be trading my MSP for a 2000 2.5RS...we'll see...

If you are doing a complete swap into an RS it really doesn't matter what OBD you are, you are replacing everything anyway. The entire engine bay harness will be replaced as well as the ECU. I would personally just buy a cluster that was made for the version motor you are swapping, that way you don't have to re-pin anything, you just might need to extend the plugs

yeah its a ghost town everytime im out that way no one is ever home. if i get it il probally leave it stock for awhile till i can clean it up and get it running a little better. then id probally have swapped forr next winter. im not looking for lots of power just something fun to screw around with. what could i possibly invest a thousand dollars.

2.2's can be very easily modded and are for the most part super reliable. I would buy the thing and use it as a rallyx car and have some fun with it. It is always nice to have a spare car anyhow.

Does it run? If it does, and you don't want it, pass the info on.
