View Full Version : Paul Sevag Motors...Thumbs Down
Blah. I started my quest tonight for a used car, and my first stop was a dealership in West Chester called Paul Sevag. I had 9K in my pocket and wanted to buy a Lexus that they posted for $9800, but the guy at the place seemed a little distant and told me the price was the price. I asked very nicely again, and he flat out told me no deal and he won't discuss it. Didn't get a good vibe at all, almost as if he didn't want to be there.
Oh well. Off to the dealerships now to see what I can find, but I just wanted to vent. Thanks for listening.

If it was Red it is still there

It was a pretty loaded ES300. Had an air suspension in it? I thought that was cool.
Now that I look at the business card, it looks like I was dealing with Jeff Sevag. No wonder he didn't have to sell any cars. Hahaha.

Well, you have to wonder, if a used car dealership is not willing to work with customers to sell cars, then what else are they interested in?

i am in no way shape or form trying to stick up for these guys, but....
you have to realise these people have a "legit" business they are trying to keep above water. with the way todays economy is there is such a small margin of profit, because of everyone undercutting eachother/internet business's ETC, ETC. maybe they themselves got ripped when they purchased the car at an auction or whateve... who knows? maybe they had to do a ****on of maintenence on the vehicle before sticking it out on the lot. im sure there are plenty of reasons why these people are still trying to get a good dollar for something that has depriciated value soo much in the past few years.
in the end a sale is still better than no sale.... so if they werent even willing to work the slightest bit, than i dont know what to say.

I think that is what bothered me most of all. Trust me, fair is fair, and if he would have said "Hey, I got taken for a ride when I bought this and I don't have any wiggle room" I would have at least listened and maybe even would have agreed to the price. Who knows.
The other thing that was a little weird is that I had to make an appointment to see the car, and the guy just sounded board when I was talking to him. I called Faulkner today to maybe go look at an Acura they have, and the guy was at least excited to have me come down.
I like nice people.

this is jeff sevag replying to a "bogus" accusation from someone named "tiny".
to the best of my recollection, the aforementioned lexus was an above average car in quality with fairly low miles, and priced over two thousand dollars below fair market retail value at that time. this person came into the dealership and only wanted to discuss price. i always try to present an above average quality car at a competitive price. this car was worth $12,500 or better at the time. if someone is offering you a good deal to begin, it is impolite to insult someone with an unrealistic offer. don't turn sour because i didnt want to discount the car; it was a fair price to begin with...
i will be more than happy to entertain all conversation and answer all questions to defend myself in regards to this situation, or any other for that matter. please feel free to call the office at your leisure. 610-836-8200.
b.t.w: i did in fact sell the rx7 at MY price & i got to keep the wheels.

Good lord it was more than a year ago..don't you have other things to worry about like running a business? You would have been better off NOT answering, that way noone would have probbably found this again, you just put it out in the open again.
Oh and I think posting that counts as advertising...

looks like an innocent not entirely warranted thread from tiny because he felt like ranting, not the end of the world but not entirely justified either.
now the employee sees it and wants to tell his side. pretty justified IMO. its an old thread but if it was me i'd be posting to defend myself too.
either way hopefully it wont rustle too many feathers and then it'll chill and fade again.

i bet he googled his name to see what bad things people may have said about the business. I know i google companies and user names before i even think about doing business with someone.

And what would make you say that? I'm extremely interested in hearing your thoughts on the subject, because if YOU were in this situation I’m sure YOU would have absolutely done your homework and would have walked into this situation with a very clear picture of what this car was worth and what you would have liked to pay for it. So if someone would have told YOU that they don't negotiate then I’m sure YOU would have been all over it. I think I’m more disappointed with this response then I am with Jeff. If you don't like me using YOUR forum for talking about my daily experiences then I guess I’m about done here.

Anyway, beginning a post with the word "bogus" not only tells me that you are perpetuating exactly what you are defending against, it tells me that you have no emotion to anything I said, and you really don't care about anything other then bad press. If you would have just said that you thought you had already discounted the car down to what YOU believed was fair, then I would have accepted that and we could have moved on. I wouldn't even have responded.
First, what else are we going to talk about other then price? I find it easier to get right to the point. I did my homework, knew what the car was worth, and knew what I wanted to pay. I had 9k in my pocket and you broke the deal for $800. Is that unrealistic? It sounds to me that you were offended that I offered you $800 less then what you were asking for it. I know it is impolite, that is how the game works. If you weren't worried about making money you wouldn't be in business very long, but if you are going to get offended when someone makes you an offer, then that is exactly why you turned me off.
Re-read my posts. There was no claim made anywhere. I didn't say you were a shyster, I didn't say you tried to rip me off, and I didn't say that your dealership sucked in any way. It was a clean place with a great storefront, and obviosly a good selection of cars because I drove a LONG way to see a vehicle you had to offer. All I said was that I was disappointed with the interaction I had with you. Maybe we were just two different people. Maybe you are a 'J' and I am a 'P'. As a 'P', I find it very uncomfortable to actually be impolite when negotiating, so I was out of my element when I tried to make you a counter offer. Maybe it was my nervousness that made me only want to talk about price. Whatever reason it was, we didn't get along, and THAT is what my post was about.
It's been a long time since this happened, and I can't say that I lost any sleep over it, but I’m glad you had the opportunity to say your peace.

i was talking about the paulsevagmotors guy coming in a year later... how on earth did he stumble upon your post and what made him think it was worth his time to comment. i was actually going to comment on what he said... but whats the point? i wasnt really involved besides saying they have an overpriced rx7.

good lord man, chill out. you went to a dealership and didn't agree on a purchase price... i'm sure it was frustrating, but it happens every day. you came on here and told nobody to ever go there. did he sell you a car with a blown motor, did he steal from you, anything thats actually bad? nope, he just disagreed with you on a price. i didnt say you shouldn't have posted the thread, if you want to vent go right ahead, enjoy. i said that your reaction was a little harsh and not entirely justified. because he wasn't willing to haggle on price, which he doesn't have to do, you are saying that no one should take their business there. and its always good to hear both sides of the story so i welcome his response.
i almost feel like this is a joke with your 'everything i say is unjustified' comment... its like you're pretending to act like some other member that you'd normally make fun of, not yourself at all.

Where did he say "don't go to that dealership" in his post? Show us.
I think his post was completely justified.
If someone is offering 8.8% less then asking WITH CASH and gets completely blown off, he has a right to be annoyed.
It's not like he rolled in there, haggled the guy down, then couldn't get financed and wasted his time.
If someone slaps cash down, they generally can expect a sale. I can see how he was annoyed.

I know you didn't lock or delete it, and you're right, there isn't much purpose for it other then him venting to people who have most likely been there, done that and are fellow car guys.
I just wanted to stick up for him because I sympathized.

Thanks Brad. At least someone payed attention.
Troll, I was pissed because I came to this forum to bitch. I wanted a little sympathy at the time because I didn't get the car I wanted. Is that so bad? You are right as ALWAYS, the thread added no nutritional value to the meal, so then why did you feel the need to jump to this guys defense? I understand you "misread" the post, but that makes it even worse.

i agree with everything your saying, just like i did above. you wanted to vent, thats fine, we've all been there. the thread doesn't do much more than that, thats fine, we've all been there.
its always good to have 2 sides to a story and if there was discussion about my business i'd want to respond too, so i completely welcome this guy's response.

I actually surfed into this site while googling Sevag Motors, and the post from this site appeared not too far from the top of the results. When it said "thumbs down", I had to check it out. I'm here with no malice and I am not in any way related to Sevag Motors or an employee or anything like that at all. I'm not taking a side either, in the conversations in this post. I did however, purchase a beautiful white Lincoln Town Car signature series from Sevag Motors in 2004 and another family member recently purchased a Subaru outback from Sevag based in part on my experience there, and searching their website, and researching the car in general. I feel like I got a good deal, received great treatment as a customer, even having them replace a windshield wiper motor twice for me at no extra cost in my Towncar. My stepson had a good experience with Sevag also. My 15.5 yr old son accompanied us to the dealership for the Subaru purchase and was looking around and I think he was planning ahead. The dealer is fun just to walk around in and look at all the varied cars they have there. I probably will purchase another car from them. Jeff also gave my son and I two free tickets to get into the Atlantic City car show, saving us a $20 entrance fee this year, and also when i bought my towncar in '04. The experince there was better than when I used to buy my cars from a local new car dealship in Phila. from the manager, who was a good friend of mine in high school, and made the shopping/credit check experience less tedious than anywhere I'd eve bought a car before.
So I just though I'd post here becauseI am someone that actually bought cars from Sevag Motors.
Peace,
Bb

I don't see how it matters. He posted a good experience with the dealer who was previously being questioned. Great to get opinions from more the one source on dealers.
