Redline Synthetic

Any Honda guys have any experience with this synthetic, it costs an arm and a leg but wanted to try something different, cause Mobil 1 is getting old. I understand its the cheapest out there, besides Quaker State Syn. which im prolly gonna try after the Redline cause i already purchased it.

But doing a little research I found that this motor oil can last lets say double to triple the interval of a regular oil change. Though the real question is should i trust OEM Honda filters to lets say 7,000 miles, the at which I would be draining the motor oil.

BTW, This is for a H22A4 motor where i usually go through a quart of synthetic every 1,000 miles. On a motor that has less than 30,000 miles.

synthetic is the way to go man. i use valvoline.

even though i use synthetic, i feel comfortable changing it still at every 2800K miles. the oil is the blood of your engine.

i found it at parts unlimited!!! they had a sh*t load of it!!! it made my car run so much better!!! trust me

ive been using mobil1 in my past couple of cars. havent had any problems or complaints. $22 for 5 qts at walmart :)

royal it the best oil you can buy its like $9 a qt. not gonna lie my engine doesnt even get hot really that sh*t is the best stuff you can buy way better then mobil1 trust me

ive used royal purple before and i didnt see any improvement over using mobil1. i personally think that the best oil is up to the consumer, whether it be mobil1, royal purple, valvoline, etc.

yeah your right but royal purple is race oil thats the only difference but your right there both really good oils but i perfer royal purple!!! lol i might have to try mobil1 just to check it out everyone honestly should b using synthetic tho thats all the matters

i have a friend who uses royal purple b/c his car is an actual racecar. other than that, you shouldnt need to run royal purple, unless your in higher rpm's alot

yea did my oil change yesterday, hated the design of the bottle. When i was cutting the seal open, a piece got lost in the bottle of motor oil and had to transfer the new oil into a empty one, but i never found that piece of paper :( . Noticed smoother cold start ups, looks cleaner. Mobil 1 got dirty instantly. Here's a nice lil read:

Red Line is some of the best synthetic oil on the market. I use it unless I can't find it, then I use Mobil 1. I know the chief chemist for Red Line. He's really cool. He said in your street car Mobil 1 is going to do just as good a job and is a good deal because it is cheaper. Red Line is more expensive because it is made from Esters. Most synthetics are made from poly-alpha-olephins because it is cheaper. That doesn't mean they are bad though. For your street car they are great. Jet turbine oils are ester based. I'm not exactly sure why they are better but I believe it is because they perform better at high temperature. If you are running a race engine you would be better off with Red Line but for the street any reputable synthetic is fine.

As far as burn-off, Red Line won't burn off any faster than other synthetics. That has to do with how well your rings are sealing, specifically the oil control rings, and the viscosity of the oil you are using.

As far as change intervals, you can go a lot longer if you have roller rockers because there is no wiping of the cam against the rockers. This wiping action consumes the extreme pressure additives. With roller rockers you don't have that problem because there isn't that wiping relative motion. I went 12K miles on my K20A3 because it has rollers but I wouldn't necessarily recommend that. 10K is about the limit for rollers and 7500 for flat tappets, in my opinion.

Oil contain an additive package that can make up as much as 1/3 of the vilume of the oil. The additivies are important. They include:
- pour point depressants - allow oil to flow in cold weather
- corrosion and rust inhibitors - help oil to stick to metal surfaces
- antifoam additives
- friction modifiers
- oxidation inhibitors
- antiwear additives

Royal makes race oil and oil for the street the oil for race use lacks the correct additives for street use. Race oil contains mainly antifriction additives and antifoam. Because race teams are constantly rebuilding and changing oil after each race corrosion,oxidation and rust are not an issue.

Pepboys near me has one. Besides that i havent seen it at any major automotive stores just small performance shops.

i dont like redline, it has its benefits, smoother idle, easier startup... but the vtec heads just love it too much

i believe the only real reason royal purple is the best cuz it is the only oil designed for your cars... all royal purple makes is car oil... unlike mobil or valvoline which are primiraly gas companies.. basically royal purple devotes all of its time, energy, into their oil....it has ALOT of better qualites then other oils... I can get more into it if you would like..
