ill refrze it. it was snowing bad in PA and there was a hill i could get up for a long time. i spent a good 5 mins tireing to get up the hill and i was in first gear driving at around 7-8k in teh same spot tires slipping the whole time.

Oh, so you bought the Le Mans RX7 eh? (I read somewhere that before rotaries were banned in Le Mans the motor they used revved to somewhere in that range...)

The only problem with pegging it and not moving is overheating. Did it overheat?

Yeah, possibly overheating the oil. Other than that, it's a honda. Not only can it take it, it was designed to take it.

I could be wrong but I would almost put money on the car having a rev limiter. I don't think Vtec has any thing to do with it.

(this is situational) but lets say i did burn the oil, did i burn it in the sense as burn it away or that the oil is burnt? so would i have to change or add it?

also i dont think it overheated cause the needled stayed around the middle of the gauge, the engine was really hot afterwards and the exhaust had a really bad smell (like when it was brand new-paint burning smell) but other than that it seemed ok to my eye. thank god for shortram. prbbly helped keep it a little cooler

If you overheated the oil then it would need to be changed. Check your oil, if it smells burnt then change it.

I am lost on how you thought you were going to gain traction with your tires spinning at like 50mph?

You have a rev limiter. Should be at like 7900 iirc. Car should fine.

I did the same thing in my old car the first winter I had it. You will be fine. one thing you might want to check is your tires. I dont think you should have had that much trouble. Ludes are heavy as hell.

You would overheat the coolant way before the oil. With this the only problem I could think of would be the possibility of the head gasket going shortly after. If your coolant didn't overheat the oil is good!

A. You have a rev limiter. All new cars do. Honda VTEC has nothing to do with rev limiting.
B. Tachometers are not always exactly accurate.. ~100 rpm off at times. The only time you'll go past your rev limiter is if you downshift to the wrong gear.. like.. from 4th gear to 1st gear, by accident.. instead of 3rd gear.
C. If the car idles fine, sounds fine, and your oil isnt scorched.. the car is fine.

Not true, the coolant has a radiator and a fan, but the oil is only cooled by the air hitting the oil pan (unless you have an oil cooler). Plus the oil will be what's in contact with the really hot bits (pistons, rods, valves, etc).

The specific heat of oil is a tad higher than coolant + water... The coolant and water I think would overheat quite a bit faster than the oil.

I think that winter driving 101 would be a great proactive approach so that you don't have to worry about this anymore. Not trying to be a smartass, but when I learned how to drive the first thing my father did was take me out in the snow and show me all the little tricks to help me get around.

You need to really research your cars before you spew out wrong information. Preludes are quite heavy, they are not one of the lightest cars. The H22 is a heavy engine block.

Curb Weight: 2954 lbs. Standard model
Curb Weight: 3042 lbs. Type SH

That's a heavy 2 door Honda.

your car is fine. i always douches in philly bangin their hondas off the rev limiter for like 10 minutes at a time, as if its like a f-in mating call.
