So Big Joe and I installed my STi hardend tranny mount the other night. Upon removal we found gobs of trans fluid all unerneath. Bolts are all tight, But its everywhere. So when we get it on the ground... check the stick, almost nothing there. Run it around for a little... Still about the same. This is probably why the tranny has been so noisy lately. I would really like to know how this occurs because I sure a **** havent touched anything down there.

well if its everywhere its gotta be coming from somewhere. its definitely not good to drive around without the proper amount of fluid so hopefully you put more fluid in or you are going to asap.
its possible that its leaking from the drain plug, either axle seal, or the seal around the driveshaft. the only other opening is the dipstick/fill tube.
the only other possibility as far as i know is if the tranny case wasn't resealed properly and it may be leaking right down the middle. take a look at all of those places and try to find a source, or just drop it at the dealer to see what they think.
good luck...

Taking it back to Reedmans since they were the only ones to open the Trans...ever. The Drain also was dripping. They put a gaurantee on their work and also claimed to have replaced the seal there. I saw it on the R.O. i have filed with the rest of the receipts for my car. Im gonna raise hell in the morning.

its coming from the very back end where it meets the driveshaft, and the middle. I replaced the axle seals a few months back and I know they arent leaking. Do you know what kind of fluid we use because subaru wont tell me and it was too late to get any and they wanna charge me almost 200 to refill it.

P.S. Im staying up extra late so ill be extra cranky in the morning.

haha staying up late on purpose to be cranky? its rumored that they use valvoline 75w90 but they wont tell and they dont sell it... i cant guarantee thats what it is but you can give it a shot, or you could drain the entire thing and then just put that in for now if you want.

Good example of why not to buy a Suabru. Does this bother anyone else or am I being too sensitive.

If the fluid is a wearable part don't they have to tell you what it is?

okay so its official, I may have a leak... but im most def an asshole. I guess I never heard my trans before because i was in three today and they all sounded like mine. I also left my car sit till it was fully warmed up and checked the fluids and it was suprise suprise full! WTF. I guess im just paranoid about breaking another tranny.

Ouch..

let me get the story straight. You replaced the tranny, then installed the STI tranny mount(on new trans) and found tranny fluid/no oil on dipstick...... Warmed up car and it was full.

Are you sure it is tranny fluid and not grease from the CV joint? If there is allot you should be able to track where it is coming from.

Sorry Ive been off for a while. The first time we checked the fluid it read low, but wasnt fully warmed up. The whine I found out is typical, i just dont ride with my windows up often. The fluid does bother me.... I cleaned the area where it was leaking to because there was so much of it, and Im going to check it again soon to see where it actually coming from. I would really like to dump the 5speed for a 6speed but funds wont allow it just yet. Can I borrow yours huff!?

Do JDM trannies and diffs make more constant gear noise than USDM ones? Just curious my car seems to drive fine but the gear whine is definitely more audible than before I dropped it off for the swap.

Any input would greatly be appreciated.

Ive heard that the gear size can have affect on the noise. I believe that the JDM ones have larger stronger gears.

Check your tire pressure - they may have swapped wheels front to back during the swap, and you might be hearing your center diff.
