View Full Version : wiggle over bumps

I just got my car back from Rallispec recently. They installed a lot of additional suspension components in addition to what I had already on the car. When I go over smooth road it feels fine. But when I go over variations of road say from smooth to a couple bumps I can feel my rear end wiggle slightly.
It did not do this before when I just had the KYB AGX and H+R Sport Springs on the car.
I got some bushings replaced, rear strut with upgraded mounts and whiteline adjustable control arms installed, rear diff upgraded mount.
The car just got aligned and the owner said I have to come back so he can further adjust my rear utilizing the adjustment controls on the rear control arms. Something tells me I need to dial down the damper settings on the rear struts because my back end has stiffened up immensely causing an imbalance which makes the rear end slightly wiggle when i go over the bumps.
Any thoughts or input on this situation would be appreciated greatly. :cyberguy:

It could be a lot of things. What car is this on and what is the rear suspension type? And what is on the car, like everything suspension related.
It could be bumpsteer in the rear due to the new control arms and them not being setup properly.
It could just be a bad alignment in general.
It could be too stiff of a sway bar in the rear.
It could be too stiff damper settings on the compression side. But depending on what dampers you have, you may not be able to adjust this. Some dampers will adjust compression and rebound simultaneously and others will only adjust rebound. If they're still the kyb agx then I don't know, I've seen damper plots somewhere for them, but I don't feel like looking them up right now.
If this happens after a series of bumps, does it feel like the rear is bottoming out? If so, it could be too high rebound settings on the rear dampers causing them to jack down the car.
Or it could just be the fact that the car is stiffer now and will follow the road more and it's something you're going to have to get used to.
So put up so more information and I'll see if I can come up with a better answer for you.

I just made appointment for monday to have them mess with the settings on my control arms to get it aligned better. The guy who aligned it said it was off but I only instructed him to mess with the stock adjusters to dial it in. Hopefully it will help immensely after they dial it in more. Boy was I big time white knuckling it today on the way home.
Then, I lowered my tire pressure a bit to help me out in the mean time. I'll keep you posted on it Tim.

Well, $300 later (First $85 bucks could have been saved but spent it because I told the shop owner to not mess with any aftermarket settings underneath my car) my suspension is tweaked and the wiggle is gone. They had to dial in my rear suspension utilizing the whiteline adjustable rear controls arms installed on the car. I was worried one of my other suspension parts was causing the problem. My toe was off by a lot.
Fixed now and smooth sailing ahh what a blast it is to drive in. Finally I can enjoy the work Rallispec completed.
I highly recommend Steinmann's on Route 130 in Burlington, NJ. The owner is Marty and tell them Jay sent you with the red subaru if anyone needs ANY alignment or suspension tweaking done. This contact was referred to me and I am posting on here because I know it is tough finding good shops if your suspension is already tweaked.

Where'd you get the rear arms? My rear toe is .5 degree out, and I'm out of adjustment. Looks like something's bent on my car...
