Is that something that is possible to do?

Somebody with an AP or the like flash my ECU?

I'd be willing to pay some chedder for time and whatnot :)

AP's dont work like that... they get married to the ecu... and there isnt really much else like that... ur best bet is to go to a reputable shop and get tuned or buy your own AP

As soon as we finish testing our maps, we will be able to flash you without purchasing an Access Port! Keep an eye on our Vendor section

You can flash your own car using an $80 Tactrix cable. Check out www.openecu.org and www.enginuity.org
Unfortunately the open source tuning stuff isn't beginner friendly at ALL yet, and takes both research and some knowledge on tuning. Some tuners offer off-the-shelf maps a lot like Cobb offers their staged base maps, but it's more hit-or-miss because the companies aren't as reputable and the maps aren't as tried and true. Basically you're in for a process of logging your car currently, flashing a map, and then logging over and over to make sure it's going well.

I have no idea what your car's running in terms of management, haha. If I were you I'd try and borrow someone's cable and log a few runs, then post the datalogs on a board for experienced people to look at them and see if everything on your car is running safely. This is also why it's cool than people like ray will be offering maps locally, so if there are issues you know who to contact.

UnderpoweredRS can do it.

it will be available for about 40 bucks for the map. cable will be about 80.00 unless you want us to flash the map in for you then it will be about 50.00 as allways, custom individual tunes will be a little bit better performance wise.

I need to do something soon.

I don't have money to shell out on an AP or get a ECUTEK tune. But I don't think my car is running right and I'm not even sure what kind of EM is has on it. I need to do something soon.

jeff... dont just flash it blindly. take it to an ecutek dealer and find out if it has been flashed already. thats what i suggest last time and its really the only right thing to do.

:) Already have that taken into consideration. I'm thinking after that.

well there's a 95% chance it already has a flash, and of that there's probably a 50% chance its an ecutek flash. so.... see if it has an ecutek flash before setting anything else up. if it does then great, go to an ecutek tuner and get teh tune freshened up and you're golden.

How come we can't just ask the previous owner of the car? I know he is on this forum....shouldn't he know?

when he bought it it had the VF34 on it so he wouldnt know either i dont think

yeah the owner who did the mods traded the car in so there was no real traceable history on the car, but its gotta be flashed one way or another because the car has 550cc injectors vs. 440cc stock injectors and that wouldnt work so well without tuning.

Dude, it's not hard to take it to an ecutek dealer to see if the car has ecutek or not.

Jeffros Spec V
01-03-2007, 06:54 PM
DUDE, that's not the problem.

The problem is the $800 it costs to reflash with ECUtek and what I'm going to do until I have $800 to drop on EM.

D Money
01-03-2007, 06:57 PM
No, that's not what I meant.

How do you know that you don't have ecutek already? Your car wouldn't run right if it was a vf34/pinks/pump so it has to have some type of tuning.

I in no way was referring to it not being hard to spend the money, becuase money is something I am without as well.

TROLL
01-03-2007, 06:59 PM
na, you go to an ecutek dealer, he hooks into your ecu and reads it, and should be able to tell if there is an ecutek license on it or not. maybe $20 or maybe free to check that if he's a nice guy. thats it... its not gonna break the bank, might not cost anything.
then you'll at least maybe know whats on there. if down the road you want a tune and you already have the ecutek, you dont have to pay for the license, you just have to pay for tuning time which will probably be $200-300.

Jeffros Spec V
01-03-2007, 09:02 PM
Oh, I spoke with Andy briefly via private message and he told me that ECUtek would run like $800. I guess that he meant $800 to buy a license and to do the tune.

D, I don't know if it already has a ECUtek or not, that is what I am trying to find out.

If I take it and I do, I'll just get a tune on the ECUtek, no biggy.

Thanks for the help. I'm coming from a Nissan where unless you have a SR20 or a RB you don't know about EM or tuning!

Keep in mind jeff, A VF34 car isnt much faster or in alot of cases not faster than a stock STi. Just out of curiosity what are you basing this of of? Compared to an SER a WRX modded or not is going to feel ass backward. Also you may want to check where the boost cotroller is set at, and how the boost lines are looking. the lines that come with that boost controller need to be replaced every so often. Judging by where the miles are now it not only needs a re-tune but a tune up. But most of all you really have to take into consideration that its a subaru, and if one day was 60 out and the next is 45 its not going to run right till the weather gets more consistant. Welcome to the turbo world.

A VF34 car isnt much faster or in alot of cases not faster than a stock STi. Don't be silly. I went 12.7 @ 109 on the TXS UTEC base map. I literally bolted the VF34, injectors, intercooler and UTEC in, loaded the map from the website, and drove to the track that night. The car went even faster after tuning. How many STIs trap 109 stock?

Also, as far as the weather goes, if you're not using a half-assed boost control setup, temperature changes shouldn't make that much of a difference to the point where it makes the car 'not run right.'

Anyway, Ralph can probably read the ROM and compare it to a stock ROM for your year. Then, if you want, he can reflash it - but I'd stop by an ECUtek dealer to check if you already have the license. Why throw it away if you have one? I couldn't really see a ECUtek dealer charging you to check on it real quick.

He means cobb AP 2.0That's what I figured, but the OP wasn't looking to buy an AP, so I was wondering about the out-of-nowhere Cobb advertisement.

I don't have money to shell out on an AP or get a ECUTEK tune.

What tuning software should I get?

I'm in the market and am kinda unsure.

My car might already have ECUtek on it but it kinda sucks that I can't do anything with it besides take it to a shop.

The AP2 has some cool features but people say they can get way more horsepower out of a real tune. HELP ME.

Depends on what you want.
Quick reliable OTS maps with the possibility of tuning in future. Get AP.

Full stand-alone for a custom setup. Get Hydra EMS.

I've currently got an AP V1 and the street tuner software. Andy tuned me using the street tuner software. I love it, but if I was going to start all over again I would go UTEC. Use a base map till the opportunity arises to get a custom tune.

Have you gone to see an Ecutek tuner to see if you have an Ecutek flash already?

I tried getting in touch with Andy when this thread was first created but he never answered me and then I read his vendor thread. I don't know who else to go to? Everybody says Andy is the man.

One option is to contact Ron @ Xotic and/or Al @ Dynoflash about getting out to this tuning day scheduled for March 23rd or 24th... http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28488&highlight=xotic

These guys all do Ecutek as well if you want to figure the situation out earlier than that.

What's up guys? I'm new to the forum but just wanted to add a suggestion. Not sure if anyone is aware, but there's a place in Phoenixville that does tuning via Ecutek... Phoenix Performance. They have an AWD dyno and a bunch of other sweet stuff and a very good reputation in SCCA. Look them up.
