Tripod... i wouldn't attempt nightshots like that without one.

The shot of the door with the light directly over it. So you see the almost grainy lines that ring outward from the light? What causes this? I've seen this in a few of my macro shots also.
Have you looked at any of the vr line of lenses they are truely spectacular I currently have the 18-200vr and the 80-400vr their abilility to eliminate camera shake is pretty amazing. I've shot sharp full zoom "400mm" At 1/20th shutter speed hand held. Some really neat stuff.

Damn you guys are right it is my monitor!! Now I'm pissed because I've junked shots because of this. I'm hooking up to my aquos later to see some of these on it.
