the car was bought in june of 2006, she had a chevy cobalt ss and hated it, ever since 03 she had been telling me that someday she hopes to have an evo 8 red with roof. On june 6 of 2006 i took the day off so she took my sti to work that day. I was so bored that morning that i began searching online for evo 8's i found this red one with sunroof at fredbeans with only 26k miles on it so my son and i took a drive out there. i test drove the car and asked my 5 year old if he thought dad was going to get in trouble by mom if he came home with it and he said yes you will be in deep trouble, so i bought it!!! from fred beans i drove straight to her job and asked her to see her keys for a second i took the cobalt keys of her key chain and put the evo ones on there, gave them back and she still had no clue. at 5pm when she got out i got a call from her, she was in total shock, i will never forget that moment.

this is the car when it was bought

a couple of weeks later we started working on her sponsorship proposal because she is going to start racing

http://usera.imagecave.com/revitup/brooke013Medium.jpg

her 1st mods were an safc and an mbc, bushur muffler delete, dejon tools uicp, short ram intake

we then realized that the stock clutch was starting to slip really bad so we installed a new one

not trying to thread highjack here, but you really noticed a difference with the licp?cause i didnt at all. i guess its a subjective mod, it def. didnt hurt performance.

back on topic: red looks great. get some evo7 or jdm mr tails, it would complete the look

There wasn't a difference in power but there certainly was a difference in spool time because the stock piece is so restrictive.

The stock intercooler is good for 11 second passes and is perfect for the stock turbo. It's more of an upgrade if you go bigger like a 50trim/gt30 or if you going to run big boost with meth/alky. Just my .02

I gained about 2mph trap speed by changing the intercooler alone on my stock turbo'd evo..The stock IC is great for the stock turbo, but an aftermarket (quality) ic will still give you a small gain, and you will benifit from it even more when it gets very hot and especially in stop and go traffic or as your turbo system begins to move more air..Also if you run meth or alky a bigger IC becomes almost redundant because the meth/alky will lower the intake temps probably even more so then a bigger IC would..The stock intercooler is good for 11 second passes and is perfect for the stock turbo. It's more of an upgrade if you go bigger like a 50trim/gt30 or if you going to run big boost with meth/alky. Just my .02

The biggest PITA I had with the clutch was the damn throwout bearing. That thing is brutal to pop off somtimes.

What cams you going with

RayArroyo
08-14-2007, 12:49 AM
yeah that throw out bearing is a bitch going with 272's bc

clutch grabs like a sob, during the test run i noticed some clicking in the passenger side front so i came back and put the front wheels in the air, move the wheel up and down and it has alot of movement front to back.... so now im in the hunt for a wheel bearing. SOB

actually i just went on evo m and apparently is a normal thing on these cars for this bearing to go, that was that click we kept hearing last year, it was just starting to go bad. they do not sell the bearing by itself from my research, looks like i have to do the entire assembly. i guess that explains the uneven tire wear on that side, since we had the car.

This is true, the same goes for most Pearl colors, this makes the paint soft and very easily mar-able, easy to swirl and quickly builds up rids. Looks like she cleaned up nicely, but if you can see a bunch of little "scratches" (I say that because they appear like little spider-web scratches but they aren't deep and you can only see them in light reflections) you should bring it to me, I'll make that paint look like glass and seal it very nicely.

Tails are done by car optics using 3m headlight protection, peels right off with no residue if i ever decide to get rid of them. used the same crap to do the mitsu emblem.

Well guys , i wanted to do a little update on the status of the car, since i sold the sti and its gone ,this is now my new car:) my wife is going to jump into like a new avant wagon or something in those lines in the summer.

This week i'm going to refinish all of the brembo brakes, i have already finished one and it turned out amazing. Ill also be redoing the winter wheels black.I also discovered that the stock front endlinks are shot so i have whiteline ones on the way. Aside from this, im going to take it easy on modding over the winter, once the spring comes ill probably get new wheels, bigger turbo,Fmic and injectors

Its been a while since i have updated this but it has been 5 months since i sold the sti and took over my wife's evo and i haven't looked back since. cant believe i owned this car for 3 years prior and barely drove it.Lots has changed since it became my car, due to all of the snow the car is now back to stock suspension which i hate the looks but it does serve a purpose.

I recently hit my 60,000 mile mark on the car so it was time to do the timing belt job, while i was at it i figured i would switch from my bc 272 cams to gsc s1 cams and all i can say is what a difference, the idle is a lot more lumpier than the bc cams but the power was well worth the upgrade. according to my road dyno i picked up about 15 whp on the same map as my bc cams.

Recent upgrades also included

Ets front mount intercooler
Aem Wideband
Aem Intake
GSC S1 Cams
White Line swaybar endlinks (to replace my broken factory ones)
Evo 9 Bypass Valve
New Custom 3" stealth turbo back exhaust consisting of a MagnaFlow 11249 Stainless Steel 3" Oval Muffler, and aeroturbine bullet muffler. I still stayed cat less and it sounds just like stock at cruise and idle.

Previously Installed Mods
Act 6 puck heavy duty clutch
Act Flywheel
Walboro 255 lph Pump
Hallman Pro MBC
Turbotek tuned
Turbo Xs 3" downpipe

I will snap recent pictures tonight.

My goal is to have a mid to high 11 second car on a stock evo turbo, so my next goal is to upgrade the turbo to an evo 9 turbo, replace the 02 housing with a titek one port the manifold and coat it, run larger injectors and e85. Once that's completed id like to get some after market wheels (nothing fancy) replace my brake lines, pads, new oem brembo rotors and switch to motul brake fluid.

Dude, don't you have GSC S1's?

you are right i dont know what the hell i was thinking, still about 15 whp more than the bc cams is pretty good considering it hasn't been retuned yet.

So yesterday, i finally decided to get the evo 8 turbo and replace it with an evo 9 turbo and a megan 02 housing. before i put everything in i ported the exhaust manifold, 02 housing and hot side of the turbo. Here are some pictures of the contraption. This week ill redo my brakes which will consist of refinishing the faded stock Brembos, new Brembo Blank rotors since my stockers look like the grang canyon, stoptech brake lines, RB pads and Motul DOT 4 brake fluid.
