Hey Guys,
I am thinking about a few bolt-ons for my EVO (TBE,MBC,intake) and then a tune at a quality shop...but am curious about the "feel" of the car after this.
Will there be more lag? How will the car pull? Will it be peaky? Shifting/clutch still feel solid?
Does the car really feel like a "monster" after a good tune and some bolt-ons? I hear so many stories but just wanted to get some feedback from you all.
Thanks!

You dont need the intake just get a drop in. The car will feel like a beast Youll pick up 60+ WHP on a IX with those mods and a good tune. You'll be smiling trust me. Like 330-340 AWHP

Hah hah – no lag, no worries my friend! The car will feel much smoother. And it’s hard to believe but 60hp is very realistic.
Also, a drop in air filter is better.

Thanks guys...yea, i know drop in might be a better way to go (cost/power) but theres something about that HKS Suction intake that looks so darn cool in the engine bay
As for the "Feeling" of the car after a good tune....care to elaborate a bit more than "it feels like a monster"??? LOL! I think the EVO feels like a monster now...what im looking for is a compare n contrast type of thing. You dont have to write a novel, just some details would be good.
Also, anyone notice a change in gas milage? better? worse? A LOT worse? :bigeek:
Tothe9's, ill def let you know man...it will most likely be sometime in Feb or March as Christmas shopping is KILLING ME right now...but going togetehr would be cool...that way we can see how each others cars respond and then go for a SCREAMER after the tune :)

Bigger turbos are great but you’ll be making big power with incredible responsiveness. When you do a bigger turbo you lose that responsiveness – people often forget that. Being in the NorthEast, having a stock turbo on an Evo is perfectly O.K. Plus the more you mod, the more risk is involved.
I think you'll be happy with the stock turbo's potential.

Thats because they have the wrx in the middle whereas the Mitsubishi jumps from Lancer to Evolution cause you know the Lancer OZ Rally edition is nowhere near a bridging between Evo and regular Lancer.

the stock turbo especially on the evo 9's is very good, capable of making alot of power, some people think that you need to get an aftermarket turbo to make power but an evo 9 with bolt ons and cams will be roughly around 400hp which is more than enough.
If you drive your car hard and shift from first to second to third and fourth, the third and fourth gears seem to slow down in the acceleration, well after the tune they will feel just as beastly as second, the car will just want to keep pulling

Do a turboback, skip the MBC and get a flash..If I were you I would just install a test pipe and do a flash and call it a day..Should be good for mid to low 12's..I ran a 12.6 on my EVO 8 with just a base flash and a test pipe so the 9 should be a few ticks faster..
Also, with a good flash you will not be losing ANY drivability at all, there really is NO downside to this mod whatsoever if done properly..Your powerband will be much broader, much less lag, less peaky, shifting will stay the same, ect.Hey Guys,

Thanks a lot for the info guys...
Im thinking about the following in March/April
Tanabe TBE
HKS Suction intake
HKS MBC
HKS Turbo Timer
HKS cams (intake & exhaust)
ECU reflash
Im hoping for about 375-400awhp. Does anyone know if there are different types of tunes? Like reflash that is good for drag? highway? autox? etc???

If/when you take your car to the dyno, they can give you different maps for different types of fuel. but for the most part, they should ask you what your using your car for and set it up for that.

dude dont get they hks timer, its mostly just a gimicky pos, and doesnt match the interior for ish....unless you buy a modded one, get the blitz with the boost gauge built in...i had the hks type 1, hated it and sold it id ditch the intake as well and just get a drop in or a maf adapter and a cone if you want to go that route, or you want one for style points then get the arc box
