no i noticed once i got the tranny and engine mated. I was tightening the bell housing bolts and was thinking about how the clutch wont hold power for 12's. Then i was like wait....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! and i started hitting things.

So is it cranking at all??? When does the smoke appear??

I'm guessing that coolant got on some electrical crap somewhere, whether it was when he removed it or when the head gasket went - If that is the case the car should start running again after it evaporates.

The car cranks over and after a few seconds of cranking smoke appears. The thing is that before I took the engine out it ran fine getting into the driveway.

you said a head gasket went right? by chance did you check to see if the head was warped in the process?
teh DIRT
12-10-2006, 07:04 PM
I didnt check because i didnt have time too. If it ends up that way ill just replace the entire engine. Like I said, it ran fine before taking the engine out. Im sure it wouldnt run for long, but it ran.

You just do a gasket replacement? I don't think the heads would have warped unnecessarily if you shut the engine down right away. If the head fit right back on the block it shouldn't have warped much (if at all) but a valve check might have been in order, although I don't see how any kind of smoke would be coming out of the block if it's a bent or warped valve.

pretty sure its the timing. might be way off, i thought i did it correctly but i hadnt had much sleep lol. smoke is coming out of the turbo which tells me the intake valves are open when they shouldnt be. should be able to fix it tomorow after class. study time.
