how about a lil friendly competition? a weekly photo contest maybe? what do you guys think?

I think it's an awesome idea. I haven't really posted any stuff since I started getting more serious, but I'm still far behind most of you. Would be cool to get some competition going.

We could do one category or something per week, make it interesting. A few more people from here and we'd have a nice little competition... and I'll get rocked, but enjoy the learning process.

sounds like a good idea, chaz do you want to run it? maybe a monthly thing would be better since there arent a TON of guys on here doing the photography thing. i dunno though...

I agree with the monthly idea instead of weekly. We have jobs you know, we need more time then just a week! :)

Can your lab scan the negatives for you? I think most of the newer equipment can.

I'm in too, I'll help all of you feel good about your shots.

yea ill write up the first one. and i like the monthly idea better. ill think of something and post up the thread when its ready. when the contest closes and i get all the pics, ill make a voting thread in gallery or off topic and have the members vote on it. all the rules and stuff willl be in the first topic thread. stay tuned.

This is a great idea. I don't use my dslr as much as I should and this will give me a great excuse.

ill try, i shoot with DSC-F717 - its not a great camera nor is it a DSLR, so i will have to photoshop a bit to even TRY to keep up with the SLRs...

That's a good question. I didn't think of that. I think only basic adjustments should be allowed (brightness/Exposure, contrst, saturation), otherwise it would just turn into a photoshop contest.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

agreed. Also entrants should have a back-up .psd file incase of a protest/bitch-fest to prove limited adjustments?

Will cropping be concidered a basic adjustment?

What about those of us thay may not have Photoshop and are using something simpler/easier? Would the raw files from the camera be ok (not jpgs)?

Also what size should the photos be? A maximum long dimension should be set.

I'm down.

Also...HP makes a good CHEAP negative scanner if anyone needs one.

That should due.

I would consider cropping a basic adjustment. It depends on what everyone else says.

We should try to keep this as simple as possible. That way it's fun, and not something to you have to have a rule book for!

Agreed. At least to a point, I mean the subject should still be the same IMO, but any color or minor subject changes shouldn't be limited. As long as it's used to enhancement of the picture I think it's all fair game.

Vypurr2
12-01-2006, 09:09 PM
I also think that there should not be any limitations on Photoshop. Its simply another tool that a photographer has these days! Anything avalible should be fair game.

I may not be as skilled with a camera as some of you, but once the images hit photoshop I can definatly enhance them!
