Sick idea. I really like it but I am content with wrapping my back seat in bride matierial. If I do switch it up, then I will go with the carbon fiber rear seat delete that they sell.
+1 for being inovative.

No, i understand what removing the back seat does ( ) but why all the resin , etc etc

Because he is going to put a false seat there so it appears stock~ish.

11-04-2006, 04:50 PM
whats the point of having a fake seat?
"Hey, can my friend get a ride back home? 5 minutes from your place"
"Uh...I can't..."
"Why?"
"well, that seat in the back isn't real..."
I say just remove back seat and get a firewall cover

I dunno...Its cheap, one of a kind, and if you are gonna have a big hole in the back of your car, why not cover it with something lightweight which looks good?

Nice, Now cut out that spare tire well and replace it with .06" Aluminum sheet.
I also wish there were full adjustable Aluminum trailing arms for our cars too. Aluminum wheel hubs wouldn't be bad either.

ok that looks like ****
i have two sparco evos up front, and no seats int he rear, if you know my car it does not get driven, its a show car, so i wanted something to cover and replace the back seat, its not a fake seat, no one sits back there, its to clean up the back once the cage is installed and what not

Yeah i was planning on taking out my back seats of my 240. Wasnt sure how it was gonna turn out but i was just gonna buy alot of auto carpet that was wider than everything i need to cover. Then i was gonna have it run from where the front carpet stops, through to the back and cover the whole trunk/hatch area, one big peice. Or If that were impractical, keep the current trunk peice and just cover where the seat was with carpet, clip it down in a few spots

Now that I think about it, Gregfeder actually did this to his back seat a while ago. I don't think he went this extensive but it still turned out pretty nicely. I believe he ended up just wrapping it in a nice carpet and calling it a day.

that looks good! are you gunna paint it or cover it with carpet?
ScubaSteve
11-05-2006, 04:39 PM
I recommend carpeting it so you dont have to spend countless hours making the piece flawless. When you paint the fiberglass your entering a whole new level of work and preperation. Paint wont hide anything so you need to buy a ton of bondo and sandpaper and work it untill its is 100% flawless or it will look like ****.

I agree. However I like the idea.
To me, I would have left it go, and not bothered....That's just one more thing to rattle around in a race car (or potentially get busted) Is it strong enough to throw you helmet and or bags into if needed?

and this is not a full blown track car or ten sec race car, it is more a show car then anything...

so you put painters tape...then double sided tape... then the felt, then resin'd it? And it hardened and you could pop it out?
Looks cool man.

See how it turns out, if it looks good keep it. If not, hit the bank and get that full carbon rear seat delete or wrap your back seat in matching sparco material.

No, you misunderstood me.
I said IF it didn't look good, then look into something else. All three options could be possible solutions while maintaining the "show car" theme.
I am actually kind of excited to see how this turns out, who knows maybe you can slave on my car and replicate it for me.

guys this is by no means easy, and it is a ton of work, and i am finally realizing that after my first day of sanding today, hahaha, i sanded for 3 hours and GOT NO WHERE...so well see how frustrated i get before i quit and cover it...hahaha but i purchased a 10x10 feet of fiberglass cloth to cover it and hopefully this smooths it out a bit...
