When I was in High School in my Senior year in VA my dad gave me a Sazuki Samuri. The first thing I did was put a bandpass box in it with 2 Jensen 10's (The ones with the handprint on them). I use to cruise in that thing with the top taken off and I had people sitting on the speaker box. People loved that little jeep. I moved to Louisiana and the last couple of months of Senior year I eneded up rolling it.

I joined the military later that year. After Basic training and Tech School I get my first set of orders. It was to Yokota AB, Japan. I was nervous at first. I've been over seas before but I didn't know what to expect since this time I was going there alone and I didn't know anybody.

I was there a few months and I had to buy a car. Getting around and going to work by foot sucked! So I bought a 93 Honda Integra from someone that was leaving to go back to the states. I got it cheap and it was a great car.

Well driving back from Roppongi around 6 in the morning partying all night. I fall alseep on the highway and ended up hitting the concrete median destroying the body on the drivers side and screwing up the front alignment. I sold the car that week because I didn't want to deal with it.

A month later I bought my first RX7. It was a clean black 1991 Savanna model with 16inch Volk wheels. I paid $1,200 for it at the Base's Lemon lot and it looks like it sat there for a few months. What a change from the Integra!! This thing had way more power and handled better and I was able to kick the rear out when I wanted to. It was just a fun car..

I only had a couple of months left in Japan and I was making plans to ship it back to the states. Well plans change like always.

Me and a couple of my buddies used to go up to the mountains near Okutama Lake and watch the racers go up and down the mountain and even participate ourselves. Well on one of the nights I was up there trying to drift. I was making a sweeping right powering over pushing through the corner with the front wheels in counter steer. Somehow, I don't know what I did, the rear wheels caught traction and sent me shooting left into the guard rail. The front end is crushed in and I broke a control arm. The only thing left really holding the passenger tire was the steering and strut.

I sold the motor and some other parts to local guys and kept what I could from it.

I move back to the states and I get stationed to Cannon AFB, NM in good old Clovis. I start to look for a turbo model FC to start over, but I could not find one for the life of me. So I buy a N/A FC and I played with that for awhile. Then one day I see this Silver FC on the Singaporian Air Force side of base and it was a turbo! I pull up next to it and I put a sign on it saying that if he ever wants to sell I will buy it from him. About 8 months later I get a call and its the guy with the Silver FC. He says he is going back to Singapore and he needs to sell it within the month. The next week I pick it up and pay cash. . It was the same month that I had my daughter. February.

Pic was in Colorado.

We get orders to Mcguire AFB, NJ. We drive from New Mexico to New Jersey in the month of August 2002 in 2 RX7's and neither with A/C. Malaya was just a few months old. We moved in with Allie's parents for a couple of months until we could find our own place. I'm driving to work in my silver FC and I'm on 95 north just cruising up doing about 80. I look to my right and I see this mustang merging unto the highway. I look into the rear veiw and he his coming up on me fast. So I drop it into fourth and punch it. I started pulling on him, put it 5th and still pulling from him. I look back and he is way back, look foward again and I hear a pop then I loose all power. No power steering no nothing. I start to slow down and take my exit and pull over to the side of the road. Pop the hood and the first thing I see is the nipple coming from the compressor housing to the wategate had popped off. Tried to start it and it starts with a little effort but it sounds like ****. Like an old train or something, chug chug chug kinda sound.

Get it towed back to the house and I let it sit there. That same week someone decides to steal it. I'm about to fall asleep and I hear a car start and rev to all hell, I jumped up when I relize it was my car. I run downstairs with my gun and I hear them peeling away. I go around the corner and I can see them going down the street and take a right. I run back inside grabbed my keys to the other 7 and went hauling after them. I took the right and stopped at the next intersection. I asked some kids sitting in the corner if they have seen a silver car just like this one driving by. They point left, I look over and there is this Blue Dodge Neon with a BIG I think yellow SUPERSTREET sticker on the trunk sitting there in the middle of the road with its marker lights on. So I turn left slowly and the Neon starts to go down the street. I follow it through another intersection and I watch it park and all of the people get out. I look around and I don't see my car. So I circle around and one of them is on the phone. So this time I go in a different direction and I go further down the street. I'm going down and all of a sudden I see my car just sitting there! I hurry back home and drop Allie off to get some help to get the car back home. I hurry back and the car is still there. I'm sitting there for what I think was about 15 minutes and this truck goes driving by real slow playing hip hop. I look in the back and it had tow arms attached to it! I'm wondering if they had planned on towing my car away. Which I think they where. I got my car back that night..

A few months later I drop another motor into it and its been running great! Took me about 2 and a half days to do it.

More to come.....

Reminds me of my 1987 RX. It was an N/A but it was such a well balanced car. Looks exactly the same except I hade the five spoke wheels. I had a million stories with that thing… two motors… a transmission… argh. But I loved that thing – it was the car that got me into the performance segment.

I loved that car also. I swear that car handled better than the current car that I have now even with the better suspension pieces on the turbo. I think it had something to do with having less power and I was able to power through corners without the rear end coming around. But it doesn't matter now that car was stolen a couple years back in Moorsetown at the Pepboys across the street from the mall.:( I miss that car...

Body kit on. I wanted to test fit the body kit to see how the fit is and to make sure I can get in and out of my driveway without messing up the kit. Which I already cracked the bumper the second day it was on, but I already fixed it with some glass and resin. Sanded it down and painted over it. You can't even tell I cracked it unless you look in the back.

Will be going to paint soon. Maybe early Feb.

How was the fitment of all the pieces? Does the bumper mount in the same spots as the original? How is the fitment with the intecooler, did you have to cut any of the bumper to fit it?

Ok lets see where to start. I've never mounted a kit before but from what I understand the pieces from Shineaero fit better than some of the pieces that are out there now including the copies of the GPsports. I've seen a copy of the GPsports and the fit was horrible.

The front bumper lined up pretty good. You have to drill your own holes. First I mounted it up and drilled the holes where the bumper meets the fender. Then I had to pull on the bumper so that it would clear the hood and headlights and drilled my holes in between the headlights. When I tried to push the sides to mate up with the fenders the center bowed up. Thats why I have the rivets in front of the intercooler to try and flatten it down. Its a tight fit around the fenders so be carefull not to crack the bumper.

I also had to hack at the inside of the bumper to fit the intercooler and pipeing, but I had to do the same thing the stock bumper anyways. I also had to shave a little form the inside of the turn signal pockets to make the turn signals fit. No big deal. You have to find a way to mount your turn signals and flash to passes.

The sideskirts fit fairly well. I remember one side was easier than the other. Towards the front the skirt had a little overlap to where I couldn't open my door. So I cut the extra off and no problems there. The doors rub the sideskrts a little but I'm going to leave to the body shop to fix for me. Probably just have to shave it a little and it won't rub.

The rear bumper caps fit very well. I think the only thing I had to do was on one side I had to use some spacers where the rear aero mounts to the inside of the wheel well. I'll take some random pics and post them up.

I did this over a few nights. I took my time on some spots and rushed on a couple, but if you take your time it shouldn't be a problem to mount everything up. Like a said before I've never mounted a kit before so it was kinda a pain for me, but I think it worked out well for someone that doesn't have any experience with this type of work.

I've already had to repair the lower drivers corner from when I cracked it going up my driveway. Used some resin and some glass and you can't even tell. Just check the pics.

Edit: I also converted to S5 moldings and rear bumper. You also need S5 turn signals.

Look here for some pics if interested of mounting areas and the fit of the kit in general.

Well if you need any specific pictures let me know. I know it took me a long time to find a decent set of S5 moldings. I actually got two sets and pieced together the best. Getting a front stock S5 bumper shouldn't be that hard. I see them on ebay and the forums all the time and the fit well it should fit without a problem. :)

Eh, I think some days I'll roll with it and some without the wing.

Well I got the Cusco Pillar bars in. Thanks to Jay (124spy) @ Driving Dynamics for helping me out. Took about 3 months to get them in. The install was a bit of a pain and it pushes against my seats a little, but not bad. I haven't taken the car out for a test drive to see if it made a difference or not yet, but it seems like it should. The bars are very thick. I could've went with a roll bar or something, but I want to keep my back seat so that my daughter can ride along with me. She loves her RX7 rides.

From Cusco:

This reinforcement bar supports the pillar side of the chassis & the door opening portion on vehicles equipped with a large door aperture, and helps increasing the rigidity & strength of the overall chassis. Made from Ř311.2mm thick steel pipe, with Cusco Blue color finishing. The installation parts are designed & developed to fit 2 pieces of seatbelt anchor bolts & the seat rail installation bolt.

Here is a chart. Its not that good, for some reason when I try to print it doesn't show the torque readings and I don't know how to convert it to Adobe. Don't mind the high AFR numbers but the lower ones are just about what I have on my logs. I don't know how they got messed up like that. When I figure it out I'll post a better sheet.

Edit: If you can imagine the high AFR readings about even with the lower ones then they would be right. You can kinda see on one run where I had to let off because it was going to lean.

Silverfc88
11-20-2007, 10:33 PM
I know when I did some 4th gear pulls before I would see the same numbers. I tune mostly in 3rd because thats what I see most of the time driving around. When I'm at the track I'm only in 4th for a sec or 2 before I hit the traps. I'll see when I get to the track for the first time with it.

From a quick look at the logs and trying to figure out what runs read right on the dyno to match what log it goes with. It looks like for the most part there's is almost the same as my logs, but there are places where its .5 off. What I mean sometimes it could read .5 high or .5 low. I don't know if its there's or mine, so I'm just going off of mine.

I would love to hit 350 Horse or 11's. Which ever comes first. I don't think I've seen a FC with the stock maf run 11's yet?

I just ordered the new chip from PocketLogger, the Rtek V2.1. The main difference (To me) with that chip versus the one I have now is that the timing control (Map based vs. load based) is alot better. So it should make tuning a little easier. Then I should be getting some 1000cc injectors for my secondaries the beginning of next month.

More info on the chip:
http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=rtek7&tab=feat&stage=2&ecu=S4T2
There are alot of cool features that have been added. Hopefully one day they can get it to where the DSMlink is at now.

I have the MAF upside down and pushed all the way forward to make it fit there with the turbo/manifold combo. The HKS manifold really pushed the turbo out and forward, plus the harness was to short so I had to turn it upside down. I didn't want to hack the wires to make a extension.

The stock maf will run fine right side up or upside down as long as its somewhat level, but you can't keep it on its side.

Thanks for the comments. I really do like the BBS's also.

I spent a few days remapping my lead timing and split timing and it feels great so far, but I need to figure out why my palm is not reading my wide band signal anymore. There is a signal coming out of the wideband itself so I have to check my connection at the ECU. It was soldered, but maybe something else went wrong or the wire is grounding out on something.

Dropped in a pair of 1000cc Delphi injectors the other night. Picked up the injectors from KGparts for $65 a piece and he modified the top part of the injector for me so they would fit the stock fuel rail. I had to modify the outlet side though to fit the stock spacer/atomizer on the intake manifold. Not a big deal, just a little grinding to the flared out portion. Just enough to clear.

I used 2 small orings to seal the injector to the rail.
The large oring that came with the injector to space the top of the injector to the rail
The stock 2gen RX spacer oring on the bottom.
The black plastic piece that came on the bottom went into the trash.

I did a couple of 12.5psi runs and so far it feels great! I need to get some logs in so I can tune out some fuel. Then a tune for 14psi.

Sorry for the crappy pic. The only thing I had was my Palm. Modified injectors on the left and stock on the right.

I don't know if it would have looked as good with the polished lip? I definetly like the way it looks now though.

First run was @ 10psi then the other runs where at 13-14psi. I wanted to see the difference between my low and high that I set on the boost controller. This was the first time turning up the boost to 14psi and looking at the logs I should be able to pull more out of it, but I'm happy with it. :)

Well I wen't ahead and picked up a different oil cooler. Driving around town the oil temps aren't to bad they stay around 190-210 degrees if I'm taking it easy. During spirited drives or constant speeds on the highway staying around 4000+ rpm's the temps get to around 240+!

The cooler is a Fluidyne Therm-HX (http://www.fluidyne.com/pl_theoc.html) unit measuring 21" wide x 5.875" tall x 3" thick.

These are Mazdatrix lines that are used for the stock oil cooler.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/95nracer/New%20oil%20cooler/53555161.jpg

After removing the 90* threaded adapters. Put a regular 90 on one end and the other line I extended with a coupler and straight fittings and a 120* fitting at the end.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/95nracer/New%20oil%20cooler/c85a632e.jpg

Had to redrill the brackets so that the oil cooler sat a little lower so it would clear the stock A/C / overheat fan. Mounted up fine and it looks stockish.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/95nracer/New%20oil%20cooler/1dce51cd.jpg

Just used a piece of fuel hose zip tied to the line so that it wouldn't rub against the cooler.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/95nracer/New%20oil%20cooler/556519d9.jpg

Just pic of the messy work area.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/95nracer/New%20oil%20cooler/e14f51c0.jpg

I put in 6 quarts of oil to fill up the system. 4.5 for the pan and 1.6 for the cooler. The oil level is sitting around 3/4 on the hash marks of the dipstick.

I haven't had the chance to test the new setup. The only thing I noticed was that on the way home I kept the RPM's around 3000 and the oil temps never went above 210. Usually with the outside temps being this hot and the humidity it would be in the 220's.

No change in oil pressure.

This weekend I'll be driving down to Maryland. So hopefully the long constant drive should give me a decent idea of how well it works or not.

I got my BC Racing coilovers in the other day and put them on last night. I set the shocks at 20 clicks from hard and adjusted the height for now until I can get a proper alignment. They weren't that bad to put on. The hardest part for me was removing the old struts and getting the height right on the coilovers.

Made sure everything was tight and put the wheels back on. On the way home it was rubbing like crazy on both front tires and the left rear tire. So today I removed the spacers from the front and raised it a 1/4 inch and the left rear up about the same. The rears are at the same length but the rear left still rubs a little. I don't know why the left does but not the right rear.

The first thing I noticed driving around the base was that the ride felt great! Alot of people where saying how coilovers are harsh for daily driven cars, but I don't see it. Maybe its just that I have spring rates that aren't to high? I know they feel WAY better than the Tokico Blue's/Eibach/Stock strut top combo that I was running for so long. I also noticed the steering felt very tight and very responsive. Going around a traffic circle it felt more planted and it didn't feel like it wanted to sway everywhere.

I haven't had the chance to mess around with the damping adjustment yet, but for now it feels good. I might go a little stiffer though.

The coilovers are still great with no noises or hiccups to report yet. Time is getting short and I really have to get the ball rolling on getting this car ready to send over to Germany. Mainly just getting some exhaust work done to make it noise and emissions compliant.

The only thing I picked up recently is a newer and different style Nardi wheel.

Notice any difference in oil temps?

Silverfc88
07-24-2008, 10:18 PM
The oil temps have been ok. Driving up to New York one day and down to Dover Delaware another I would have to say the oil temps are down, but not as much as I would like them to be. The temps where mainly hovering around 210-225 and thats cruising around 80mph which isn't to bad. I didn't see any near 250 degree oil temps like I have in the past.

With a front mount I think the best way to go is to run dual oil coolers in series and run them on each corner of the front bumper to try and take advantage of the air going into the bumper. I'm going that route later down the road

arkadyzv
07-24-2008, 10:55 PM
Looking nice as always, which hub are you using to mount the wheel? I recently got a Personal wheel and bought an NRG hub to mount it, but it sits too close so I think I have to end up getting a quick release adapter, which I dont really want.

Silverfc88
07-24-2008, 11:18 PM
I'm using the Nardi hub that came with the wheel when I picked it up. The hub was actually for a 3rd gen. It fits fine on the column/spline, but it sits slighty a little to the right while driving and I had to fab something up to make the horn work.

I use a NRG Slim guick release and a 30mm SRR steering wheel extension. You can probably get away with just using the 30 or 50mm spacer. I HAD to space the wheel out. With the stock position my knees would be against the steering wheel and it just feels better with the wheel closer to me.

This is where I picked up the spacer. http://stores.ebay.com/GOING-SUPER-FAST_STEERING-WHEEL-QUICK-RELEASE_W0QQcolZ2QQdirZQ2d1QQfsubZ2QQftidZ2QQtZkm

I'm going to be getting the spacer powder coated black.

Yeah thats why I got the wheel, the rack in the Gtu isnt adjustable, being 6'3= clutching with my knees sideways=ouchies. Hows the NRG Quick-Release, quality wise?

Silverfc88
07-25-2008, 04:56 PM
The NRG Slim is a nice unit. It is alot nicer than the last cheap ball bearing quick release that I had before. It only has developed VERY slight play, its not really noticeable. The old ball bearing pull type had all kinds of play on it.

The Slim is a twist to lock type of release.

Almost forgot... The NRG mounting holes didn't line up with my Nardi hub so I had to drill and tap the nardi hub. The spacer works as an adapter also.

Did your personal wheel fit the NRG hub?

arkadyzv
07-26-2008, 02:40 PM
Nope, I bought an adapter to go from the NRG to the Personal. Since NRG hubs are momo style and Personal is made by Nardi thus the bolt pattern is different. But yeah I guess I'll give the NRG Quick-Release a try.

Well after about a month of the car being down I finally got it running again a couple of days ago. The old turbo ate its oil seal and Majestic Turbo's couldn't rebuild it, well they could have but the price would've been up there. So I ordered a brand new Turbonetics 60-1, T4 Ptrim .81 undivided housing. While the car was down I had Bonehead Performance powder coat a couple of things for me. I had the intake manifold, water pump/thermostat housing, oil fill neck, alt cover and a few other things for me and they all came out awesome!

One of the biggest problems I had though was when I first started the car the voltage was dropping and my high temp switch wasn't working. The alternator wasn't giving out a charge to the battery. So messed around with it, switched some wires around and still nothing. So I sat down for a while and looked at it, something came over me. For some reason when I had everyting coated I didn't even think of electrical grounds. I sanded the inside of the dog ears of the alt and where it would mount on the water pump housing. I also ran a new ground from the alt to the battery. I had to remove one bolt from the thermos housing and sanded down the bolt/washer then the housing itself. Thankfully everthing worked after being bolted back up.

So far the car feels great and it seems like the power comes on sooner without any major drop off. I'll find out soon when I get to a dyno.

Thanks, man. I'm not to sure about the dyno yet, but I'm thinking R/T Tuning. I want to get a basic alignment done anyways.

The color is Boneheads Reflective Chrome w/ clear coat. I think the color looks great. One day I'll get around to getting more stuff done or polished, but for right now I'm just glad its running. I think later I might have to change the color of the alt pulley and caps for the oil fill and catch can. Oh and I only put the front cover on the alternator because I couldn't get the rear cover off, I got scared off breaking something. lol

Well dropped the car off at the shippers to have it sent to Germany. Kinda freaking out right now that the car is gone and not in my control. It should get there at the end of Jan hopefully.

I had to change a few things before I shipped it out so that it will hopefully pass the inspection over there. I had to get a cat welded up along with a silencer to hopefully meet noise laws. Swapped the front windows with non tinted windows, attached a front license plate frame, swapped in some stock headlights. Raised the car a little over an inch. Swapped to the winter wheels.

I hope the car gets through customs and the ship ride over ok.

Oh, yeah I plan on taking a ton of pics over there after we get settled down. I want to pic up a Nikon D40 so I can get some decent shots, for some reason I can't get my little P/S to focus in low light. First thing we have to do is to find a place with a garage. I heard this can be kinda hard over there.

See you when you get here and hopefully the car arrives undamaged. Not to alarm you but a guys Evo here had his interior stripped on the boat. He got paid nicely though. Also remember to stock up on the little things you might need like maintenance items. If you need to ship them before you leave, PM me you can us my APO.

BTW, I shipped mine about the same time last year and it took 3 weeks. Did you get a quote on insurance yet?

Yeah they said it wasn't going to take long. Damn I've heard of stereos and small stuff like that taken, but not the whole interior! How badly stripped we talking? Just front and back seats?

I'm stocking up on plugs, belts, oil filters, extra air filter and whatever else I can think of. I might just ship most of it with the household goods. USAA told me 102 a month for full converage.

Haven't updated this thread since I have been in Germany. Just posting a new dyno sheet from today. Eventually I want to update with a few pics.

Went to a car show and they had a mobile dyno there giving people free dyno pulls. Wasn't expecting to put the car on it, but I said screw it. I was curious to see the power I was making. I've only made a few changes to my maps since I have been here. So I threw it on and they did two pulls with me sitting in. The first pull was 3rd gear in red and the second pull was 4th and in blue.

391.4 ps = 386 whp
414 nm = 305 foot pounds ( I think )

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a30/lazyp_noy/scan0007.jpg

Oh and they got my name wrong on the dyno sheet. LoL.. I guess the German couldn't read my chicken scratch.

Failed inspection about a week ago for loud exhuast (on purpose) thinking they wouldn't look to closely at other thngs. The inspector walked under the car and instantly started to claw and tap the underside of the body. Comes back and tells me I failed for having rust holes on the underbody and I have to get them welded up. I knew there was some rust under there, but didn't think it would be a big problem. It didn't seem that bad at the time when I first looked at it.

Prep work getting started on the rust holes. The rust didn't seem that bad at first until I started to do some grinding. The holes just got bigger and bigger until I found fresh metal.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a30/lazyp_noy/Rust%20repair/DSC_0001.jpg

Ended up cutting out the pinch weld as well. It was so jacked up from me jacking up the car in the wrong places in the past.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a30/lazyp_noy/Rust%20repair/DSC_0004.jpg

After cleaning up the rest of the rust and welding up some new metal and forming a new pinch weld. Sprayed with some primer and then sealed.

Got it inspected and it passed with flying colors. I went there before I added the final black rubber coat so they can see the work I put into it. After I sprayed the final rubber coat everything looks great. Looks like what it did when I first picked up the car 9 years ago.

Finished an aluminum underpan and it made a big difference in oil cooling. Maybe a little to much for this time of year. The temps rarely reach 150 degrees. Time will tell when the weather gets a little warmer if the shrouding will work or not.

Shrouding for the oil cooler in various stages.

Picked up new shift and ebrake boots made with Bride fabric, Corksport short shifter, and Blox heavy shift knob. I already had a short shifter from Mazdaracing, but the throw was to short and it took alot of effort to change gears. The mazdaracing shifter had a 60% reduction in throws, where the Corksport has a 35% reduction and the gear changes are much easier now.

Orderd a shorter shift boot so that I could have the shifter exposed to, I don't know why I just like the look. The only reason I orderd the boot set in Bride Fabric was that I wanted the set to some what match the seats. I'm probably going to shop around now for some fabric to do the door cards and possibly the pillars as well and whatever else I feel like wraping.

Looking good Jerry. Its nice that you got the boots done in Bride Fabric. I was about to order a set but could not decide between black suede or the Bride fabric lol. They look really good, you've made my decision.

Hows the spool on your 60-1. My friend is offering me a 62-1 with HKS mani plus a lot of other stuff for a great price. I really want to jump on it but I dont want it to be too laggy as I'm only looking to make about 350whp. When does your 60-1 begin to spool and when does it hit full boost.

Also hows tuning with the rtek 2.0? A lot people seem to say standalone is the answer for over 300 while I always remember you having your rtek and always making good power and never having issues. Are there still preset maps on the 2.0s if I choose to stick with stock turbo for a little bit. I'm about to order an rtek 1.7 but a 2.0 seems like a smarter buy as long as I dont have to get it tuned for the stock turbo.

Silverfc88
02-25-2011, 05:16 AM
I was stuck between the suede material that they have and the Bride fabric as well. Figured I would try to match the seats atleast.

The spool on the 60-1 is ok. Since I am on stock ports and using the old log style HKS manifold I kept the turbine a/r on the smaller side (.81) to help with respone. Wouldn't go any smaller than that though. I'll have to look at some old logs, but from what I can remember threshold was around 3000rpm, full boost (14psi) around 4. Its a little laggy, but not to bad as long as I keep the rpm's up. I need to retune the car though. I'm running a little rich on the low end (10.5 afr's) below 4000rpm. I think thats why my last dyno sheet looks really peaky.

Currently running the latest Rtek version 2.1 and I still like running it. I don't remember what the difference was between the 2.0 and 2.1. One thing to remember is that you need an XP machine or earlier version to run the palm software so you can backup your palm and view logs on the computer. I tried loading the palm software for my palm zire 71 unto my vista pc and it wouldn't work, so I have to use an old laptop with xp on it just for the palm.

Tuning with it is good. You can hook up a wideband to the ecu so that you can log its signal in relation with boost and rpm. The stock timing maps are load vs rpm's, you will have to switch it to Map vs rpms to configure your own timing maps. Once you switch the maps you will have to input your own lead timing map. There is a couple of maps for running the stock turbo on RX7club floating around in the Rtek subforum. This process can be a pain though, it took me a couple of hours just to change each cell. You have to use the little arrows to adjust each cell value instead of just typing the needed number. I guess with a full standalone you can change a bunch of cells all at once. After you finished inputing a stock map you will have to change your split as well. When you change the split the rtek will automaically change the trailing maps.

You can save maps on the palm, but the last time I tried to save a map and load a different one the palm froze half way through and crashed. Didn't work to well for me. That was when I was experimenting with different maps. I only run one map and have been for a long time. If your swapping turbo's your going to have to retune anyways. I started out using BDC's stock timing maps for either the Wolf or Powerfc ecu's.

There are some limitations to the Rtek. Mainly having to be stuck with the AFM, size of injectors, still using the stock wiring harness

The pluses though is that its pretty much a plug and play system, being able to keep emmsions equipment, you keep the stock wiring harness . There are advantages and disadvantages to the stock wiring harness

I was making almost 300hp to the wheels with just the 1.5 (720cc injectors), HKS AFR, BNR stage 1 turbo. With your goals I don't think running an Rtek will be a problem, but knowing you. You will WILL want more.

The Rtek 2.0 will have the stock timing maps loaded. Check this thread out though on the stock timing maps. http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=943159&highlight=stock+timing+maps

Hey Jerry, been searching around rx7club for people who had BC Racing coils. Saw that you got them in 2008 lol. Still have em? How are they ? How many miles on them now, how have they held up? Hey Ark I must have missed your comment or something when you posted it. I still have the BC Racingt coils and they are still holding up great. Every once in a while I will break the adjustment nuts loose, wipe everything down and lubricate everthing to make sure nothing seizes up. I'm not to sure how many miles I have put on them, but they have held up to the Nurburg/Hockenheim rings and blasts down back roads in the area. This is the first set of coilovers I have purchased so I can't compare with other brands.

Thats good, I've had a set on my LGT and a recommended them to friends with other cars and they all loved them. Just wanted to see how the drive and handling was on the fc. Which spring rates did you get up getting?

Also I ended picking up a used rtek 2.0. As I have the rtek 1.7 now but really needed an SAFC to fine it out as my car idles at like high 9 AFR's lol. If you have some free time and want to pm anything you think I should know , or anything that will help me use it, that would be awesome. And what you tuned idle and cruise and load at, both A/F's and timing. I basically want the same setup you have power wise, after I get a bigger turbo.

Car looks great as always btw.

I made the mistake of putting the upper intake manifold back on before testing the fuel system for leaks and sure enough I had a leak when I turned the fuel pump online by one of my hose clamps. Pulled the mani off and just had to tighten the hose clamp. Found that I had a leak on the coolant line to the throttle body as well.

After cranking to engine over without any fuel or ignition or about a minute just to verify that oil pressure was building on my gauge. I started it for the first time and fired right up!

Pics of my 2012 WRX! Love this thing. I have always wanted to pic up a WRX and I thought this would be a good first one.

At the dealer. Took about 4 weeks to get it in.

Threw on some overlays. I like the overlays, but you know what. I think the stock rear lights look ok by themselves on the Subaru ISM color. What a pain in the butt to make it lay flat. Definetly need a heat gun to apply to overlay.

Looks good man! Love WRX hatches.

Is it just the nature of the rotary, or is it misfiring?

Yeah man, that flywheel nut can be a pain sometimes. I picked up a K&N intake for dirt cheap and flashed a TP stage 1 map on to the WRX and it feels like a totally different car. Love my Suby!

Well after about a month of running around on the new engine the turbo went out on me. At first it was just smoking on start up, then after a couple of days it was smoking full time and you can see oil leaking around the turbine housing.

Decided not to rebuild this turbo again and went with an all new turbo. Went with a Borg Warner S360 with a .88 a/r open turbine. Picked it up from theboostlab.com in FL and had them weld on a regular 3" vband on the turbine housing and polished the comp housing.

Even though both turbos seem to about the same size I had to have my downpipe extended to meet up to the turbo. I wanted to use the flange that came with the turbo anyways becuase it has a little lip on it to help it seal.

Pulled a 414 rwhp and 341 ftlbs torque @ around 15-16psi. Maybe the highest horspower fc using the stock ECU and S4 AFM?

This was on 10 gallons Cali 91 octane and 1 gallon Sunoco red 116. So about 93 octane fuel.

Picked up some Hoosier QTP's. Just need to find some time to get over to the track.

Saw that Sacramento Raceway was having a test and tune day so I decided to run the FC to see what I could pull. The best run of the day was a 11.8@121

What drag tires are you running and sizes? on stock s5 turbo wheels?

Silverfc88
01-01-2013, 04:47 AM
Hoosier Quick Time Pro 26x9.5 R16 on stock TII rear wheels. I was playing around with tire pressures and had it down to 16psi at one point, but with running regular radial front tires the car was getting some crazy sway. I had to shut it down a couple of times because I thought I was going to lose it. I raised the tire pressures to 18psi and it was more stable. I might try to get some skinnies for the front to help with the sway.

Also picked up some M&H front runners to help battle the sway. Mounted on some EVO 8 pizza slicers. Neede some 17" skinnies to be able to fit over my brakes.

Well I felt like I represented Mazda's and Rotaries well winning the turbo brackets yesterday during Sacramento Raceway's CMI March Mayhem sponsored by ATP Turbo. It was a field of 18 with EVO's, Civic's, Integra's, a Supra, DSM's and other various cars. This was my only second time out for bracket racing and I wasn't running very consistent. So I didn't think I had a chance at all to advance. The first pass was against an EVO and something happened and he didn't complete his run. Second pass was against another EVO and I don't even know how I got the win. My launch was horrible, I didn't even come close to my dial, but the reaction was decent. Third pass was againt a Supra and he ended up going to fast. 4th pass was a by run, there was only three cars left and I had the best reaction the pass before.

The finals was against a 560 horse Integra with a 11.0 dial and I had a 12.0 dial. I take off and after the 1/8 he FLYYY's by me and crosses the line first. At first I was thinking I didn't make my time, went to slow. But then the way he was moving I started to think maybe he was going to fast. When I picked up the time slip with the WIN on it I was exstatic! He did end up going to fast and I ran my dial.

I was number 113 and stayed in the right lane
