I need new tires. I did search the forum but didnt find any threads for the question i'm asking, and i'm retarded when it comes to tires so i need help.
I have just about the worst tires ever made right now. The previous owner put them on just before I bought the car... Goodyear Eagles...... Anyways, they are bad enough as it is, and terrible in the rain.. I cant imagine how bad they'll be in the winter, so it's time for some better tires.
People have been telling me to get a "stickier" tire... and something about BFGoodrich makes a good kind? idk... But i do know that if Im forking out the $$, they better be a stickier tire. But im assuming that the kind of tire i'm going for isnt necessarly good for the winter right? Well the way i look at it, anything is better than the crap i have now.
Id llllllike to find a Goodyear "sticky" tire... if there are any, bc my uncle works for them and can get me a good discount. I had goodyear assurance's on my accord and I loved them but i dont know if theyd be good for the talon.
But umm... my tires are 205-55-16, and as far as me searching other threads, i pulled these up, but i still have no clue if they're what im looking for...
1. Falken Azenis RT-615
2. Yokohama ADVAN AO32R
3. Pilot Sport SP2
4. Khumo Supra MX
5. Kuhmo Ecsta MX
6. Toyo proxes
7. Hankook R-S2
8. BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD

ok first... will the tires be on your car year round? if so you need an all season. all seasons wont be as grippy as summer tires but unless you want to have 2 sets of wheels/tires its the way to go. if you do get an all season you wont be able to get something too grippy, but there are some decent ones and i'm sure it'll still be better than what you have now.

Id find 2 spare wheels and put a nice sticky bfg tire on them in the spring summer, and for now just put some all seasons on to make it threw the winter and rain.
I reccomend azenis, but have experiance with the bfg kdw's and suggest them for the street.

Falken has the "Stickiest Rubber" IMO...BFgoodrich makes a decent tire as well. The G force KD's are a great tire...Kumho's are cheap but for what they are arent all that bad. Dont waste your money on the Yoko's or the Mich's...I think the Advans are a striaght track tire and Pilots are a lil to much for the Talon IMO.
As far as goodyears "Sticky" tire...The Assurance'ce tires are based more on ride quality not performance...I have 4 Triple Treads on the Talon and Love them, But I'm AWD. I'd say your better off going with a Falken or a BFg

1. Falken Azenis RT-615
2. Yokohama ADVAN AO32R
3. Pilot Sport SP2
4. Khumo Supra MX
5. Kuhmo Ecsta MX
6. Toyo proxes
7. Hankook R-S2
8. BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD
The Azenis is a good autox tire, sticky when cold, horrible for rain and snow.
The A032R is a competition tire, not meant for every day driving.
I'm guessing you meant PS2 for the pilot sports. They're awesome tires, OE stuff for the good porsche's (GT3). Another summer tire, probably better in the rain than the RT-615, but still pretty worthless for the snow.
There is no Supra MX, there is an Ecsta MX and a Supra 712. The MX is probably the best, affordable non-competition tire for the track, road course stuff not that stupid drag racing. Not so good for autox because they suck when they're cold, but once they hot up they're stickier than the azenis. Not too bad in the rain, worthless in the snow. The 712's are cheap, but crap.
Toyo's I don't have experience with or really care about unless they're RA-1's.
I think the Hankook's are alright, but probably another summer tire.
The g-force KD is a good tire. I think my friend has the KDW's on his 350z and they're better for the rain. But they're also a summer tire, that you don't want on the car for the winter.
Basically, all the tires you listed would be horrible choices for the winter. Go to tire rack and look at the tires, you'll probably want a high performance or performance all season tire. Goodyear has a ton of them. Oh and your first comment about having Goodyear Eagles on the car is pretty funny. You'll understand when you look at the list on tire rack.
You mentioned the Assurances, they aren't bad tires for a regular car. Another friend had them on his Si an they were fine for running errands and driving in the rain.
What do you do with this car? Is it a get around, run errands, type of thing or are you doing racing stuff with it? If you just need tires to get around in the winter then get whatever, they really won't matter. You probably won't be able to tell the difference between the high performance or the regular tires. So save your money on your winter tires and if you want get some decent wheels and tires for the summer if you plan on doing anything with the car.

I run summer tires all year round...
Choices I like:
1. Falken Azenis RT-615's (cheap)
2. Advan Neova AD07's (kinda expensive)
3. Advan A048's, the ultimate tire! (super expensive)

Yeah, the comment about me having Assurance's was pretty worthless, I wasnt saying or asking if they were sticky or whatever, just saying I had them on my old car and loved them... And i'm oblivious to what those tires I listed were, I just copied and pasted from other threads, so idk what I "meant" bc I didnt write them originally.
Next, my car is a daily driver, its not a race car or anything but i am slightly modding it, and it gets tttterrible traction. My track 1/4 mile times were crappy, due to the fact that my 60 fts were sh*t. These goodyear eagles... uhhh...:finga:... if its raining the slightest bit, i'm stuck spinning at a light for 10 minutes trying to get traction. If its raining a decent amount... forget it, im screwed. So I just know how bad they will be in the snow... Those Assurances I had, i could (i didnt just for the record, but could) go 100+ mph in the rain and not slip once... they were great, and were fine for a fwd auto car that didnt have traction issues, but i assumed they wouldnt be perfect for the talon.
I don't have the $$ to buy 2 different sets of tires, nonetheless put one of those extra sets on an extra set of wheels/steelies that i dont have. I whined to the parents about the tires i have now "threatening my safety," lol, and honestly, the recent accident i got in might not have happened, or def. wouldnt have been as bad as it was, if I had better tires and could have stopped faster in the rain. So I reasoned with her to get me new tires. Idk if shes just buying me 2 front tires or all 4, but either way its better then what i have now. Im assuming if they are goodyears and/or the tire is a decent price she'll get all 4, but if not, she'll buy 2 and i'll buy the other 2 in the spring when i have $$.

Can you clarify which GY "Eagles" you may have had trouble with?
It's hard to see where any trouble lies with traction or wet when it comes to the Eagle F1 GS-D3.

I think the better question now to ask is what are some tires that are sticky and are decent in the rain.... and not terrible in snow. If any even exist
I went onto tire rack and looked. I really just wish I could list what I want, like sticky/performance... decent in rain and/or snow, instead of choosing winter or all season or summer. But I assume they probably list it like that bc the kind of tires i want dont exist lol.
These are the ones that came, tell me if theyre good or bad for the talon.
These are what I used to have that i loved, idk how they are for summer/performance though
-Goodyear Assurance TripleTred
These are the all seasons that came up
-Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position
-Kumho ECSTA ASX
-And a whole bunch of Eagles that I refuse to even list, lol, i didnt know there were so many. Maybe they all dont suck, but the ones i have sure as hell do...
Summer:
-Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval
-Kumho ECSTA SPT
-BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW
-Dunlop SP Sport Maxx, 9000
-Dunlop Direzza DZ101
-and a bunch of Potenza's.. here were a few
-Bridgestone Potenza S0-2, S0-3
-Bridgestone Potenza RE750
So i guess what im asking is out of these all seasons.. are any of those sticky?
And out of those summer tires, are any of them better in rain or snow?
Thanks guys!

Ok, the tires you list in your first post are summer only tires...
Good all season tires that provide good stick for not too much $$:
Kumho ASX
Pirelli P Zero A/S
BFG G-Force KDWS
The Pirelli's are great, as they offer all around good grip and are fairly quiet. Wear is very good as well.
I have this tire on my wife's Sentra SEL. Good wet/snow traction, good dry handling and quiet on long trips...
As a DD, it will be almost impossible to find an all arond tire that does everything well, especially on a budget.
I would also look at the Tirerack website for more information as to what is available to you in the size you seek.

I did look on tirerack, thats what that last big post was about... hmm... I not really on a budget... i just dont have the money to buy 2 sets of tires and crap was all i was saying. I mean, if the tires are worth the price i'll just get the 2 for the front and worry about getting the rears when summer comes around.

well you NEED an all season tire. after that you're going to want to look for a performance all season. after that... just read the ratings.
if its a summer tire, it is not able to be used during the winter due to the temperature and of course ice and snow. its just downright stupid to try to drive summer tires year round.
there are quite a few decent all season tires out there so i'm sure you'll find what you need. i have also heard the Toyo Proxes 4 is a good all season, and I have heard good things about the P Zero Nero M+S too.
advans! but not in the winter for the love of good

UUUUhhhhhhh.... damn. Ok if i'm going to have to get winter/seasonal tires and summer tires then i'm just getting the cheaper ones. And from what I looked at the ones that look decent for the price are:
Dunlop SP Sport A2 Plus $75.00e
Kumho ECSTA ASX $62.00e
Falken ZE 512 ZIEX $77.00e
The Toyo Proxes 4 are like $90e, so i'd rather spend 65 or 75 a piece then 90. And the P Zero Nero M+S is $110.. so pssh. lol
Ok so who makes the best sticky summer tire for under 100... or around 100.
I saw these, which seemed really cheap...
FALKEN FK-452 $80e
Kumho ECSTA MX $81e
BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW $79e
Dunlop Direzza DZ101 $80e
I mean, if any of those are good and stand out, then i'll go with one of them. But if they're all not really worth buying then ill go to the 100 price range and go from there.

ok just to make sure we're on the same page you can either:
1) get winter tires and summer tires, and either 2 sets of rims or pay to have the tires swapped 2x a year.
2) get high performance all seasons and be done with it.
i'd recommend option 2 unless you are ready to get serious about racing or have extra cash for a whole other set of wheels and tires. if you were going to go with option 2, why not spend $90 each on tires if they're going to be on your car for the next 2 years or so? also consider that some tires wear faster than others so they might be 25% cheaper but might last 25% less time too.
if this link works it will bring you to a customer survey of high performance all season tires so you can get an idea of which are the most popular. the ones that fit a 96 eagle talon (thats what you have right?) should even be in bold so you know your options: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=HPAS&width=205%2F&ratio=55&diameter=16&tireSearch=true&autoMake=Eagle&autoYear=1996&autoModel=Talon%20Tsi&autoModClar=&speed_rating=HR&speed_rating=VR&speed_rating=WR&speed_rating=YR&speed_rating=ZR&speed_rating=HR&speed_rating=VR&speed_rating=WR&speed_rating=YR&speed_rating=ZR
and this one will bring you to a survey of ultra high performance all season tires: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=UHPAS&width=205%2F&ratio=55&diameter=16&tireSearch=true&autoMake=Eagle&autoYear=1996&autoModel=Talon%20Tsi&autoModClar=&speed_rating=HR&speed_rating=VR&speed_rating=WR&speed_rating=YR&speed_rating=ZR&speed_rating=HR&speed_rating=VR&speed_rating=WR&speed_rating=YR&speed_rating=ZR

I have Eagle F1's on in the Summer and switch to Bridgestone Blizzaks in the Winter. I have no complaints about the Eagles, very grippy wet or dry. I can't loose traction unless I'm really trying to. They are a Summer tire (soft tire compound) so they don't warm up when the tempatures drop below 50º and cold tires = unintentional drifting = bad.
You need to buy tires according to your needs. It depends on what you want to do. If you just need them for DD, then you need all seasons. Dimitri doesn't drive his car so he can get by with Summer tires all year long. You could always get steelies for the Winter and use your OEM rims for the Summer tires. I don't like to skimp on tires since it is the only thing that keeps me in contact with the road. I'll buy them one at a time if I have to...

I was going to get 2 of each because I wanted to have a sticky tire in the summer. I figured that was my only hope for getting traction since im not getting slicks, or a lsd... or anything else. So i was just going to do both. And my bf is a mechanic so I wouldnt have to pay to switch them twice a year, and even if we broke up, my uncle is one too and could switch them for me.
I didnt think an high performance or and ultra high performance was an option to get both aspects of what I wanted. If I can get good traction with them in the summer then i'll go for those.
Ok, so the "Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position" is #1 on the ultra high performance all season, and theire only $108e, so thats pretty good, but they dont have any ratings in snow, which would be the only reason i'm getting allseason tires is so i'm not screwed in the snow.
the "Continental ContiExtremeContact " is #4 and costs $82e and seems to have good ratings, but i've never heard of them, nor have i heard of #2 "Avon Tech M550 A/S," and #3 "Pirelli PZero Nero M&S"... idk, i kind of wanted a directional tread for my allseason tires.
So im guessing I should just get #1?

haha, ok you can be my 3rd option.
My main concern isnt snow. My main concern is traction period. I just dont want to buy an allseasonal thats not too good in snow, when I could buy one that is good in snow. I just want an all season tire that will still give me extra good traction in the summer. Like, they said before that I can't get a sticky all season tire, si i guess i want the closest thing i can get to that, which would be the all season with the best traction.
I just dont htink you guys understand how bad my car is with traction. Idk if its the tires on it, or if my car just sucks period. Ask Barry, he was laughing his ass off abotu how much it sucked when there was just a little bit of rain on the ground.

pretty anxious to see how the p zero m+s hold on up the snow, they've been great in dry and wet conditions so far

if you end up going with one of these options
Dunlop SP Sport A2 Plus $75.00e
Kumho ECSTA ASX $62.00e
Falken ZE 512 ZIEX $77.00e
i'd go with the 512's, they've been prooven over and over, hardly anyone says anything negative about them, they've one #1 consumer awards pick.. blah blah, great tires for the price

lol, I wish you all would just say every tires sucks except ___________, so I would know which one to get....
A couple of you said these 2 were good. They're both High Performance All Season, and the Dunlop's had a fairly good rating on the link Bryan posted (thanks btw), but the Falkens weren't listed on it.
1. Dunlop SP Sport A2 Plus $75.00e
2. Falken ZE 512 ZIEX $77.00e
Then a couple said that these were good, and they're Ultra High Performance All Season, but again, after looking at the link Bryan posted, and the Customer Comments that SmokeScreen posted, it shows nothing about how they do in the snow. But, I am assuming reasonably well since they are "Ultra High Performance," and i'm hoping also bc of the price. It would suck if I spent about $30 more per tire and they were worse in the snow than the Falken's or Dunlop's.
3. Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position $108e
So, besides #3, which I am assuming anyway, all of the tires do good in the snow. So they're all equal on that aspect. With Wet/Hydroplaning, #3 did a reasonable amount better than the Dunlops (and Falkens idk about bc they aren't listed). So I guess it'll come down to how they are in Dry conditions.
They're all obviously going to be good bc they're respectable all season tires, but does anyone think one will do better then another on my car. I mean, I have tires now that are meant for dry conditions, and are still terrible (maybe not on other cars but are bad on mine). Thats why I initially wanted "stickier" tires.

I think thats what the last owner did. lol, When I bought it he said the tires were put on a month or 2 ago, so they were fairly new. I just went and looked at my tires and there are 3 different kinds of Eagles on there. lol, 1 is my fault cause I got a flat and my bf just threw a tire on there for the time being. But that still means the owner but 2 random kinds of Eagles on there
