Ive been wanting a mid engined exotic for a few years now, and since i was being sent back to iraq so soon after the first tour, I felt the time was right to make that dream a reality. at first I was looking hard at the lotus esprit. I knew all about its electrical problems and continued my research unfased until i found out about the renault tranny that blows anywhere over 350 hp. the lotus out i continued looking, the italians were fragile and germans had ****ty dynamics being as they arent true mids. in either case, they were both so expensive that the only cars fitting my 30k budget left the factory in the late 70's. this was unacceptable and i was about ready to give up the hunt when a best motoring video brought Honda's NSX back into my attention. Id known about the NSX since its inception in the early 90's: it was a beautiful car and the magazines loved it, but like many i had been unwowed by its lack of power. what i saw on that video was BMI's own "Gan san" racing against contemporary exotics in a NA2 NSX-R at twin ring motegi. seeing that 290 hp car hold off a 600 hp murcialago using only its lightwieght and perfect balance was inspiring, I had to have one. I quickly joined www.nsxprime.com and downloaded a copy of the FSM, all my research coming back positive I began my search for a red/black NA1 with tan leather interior and shortly found one at a decent price in prime's classifieds. Now i just gotta get free of Iraq so i can enjoy it properly.

Now then, after that long winded introduction heres some pics ;)

OH N0ES! I found me a set of NA1 NSX-R enkei's at a nice price on ebay. my heart is still set on black ssr type c/rs but these will give me a nice set of rare lightweight rims for the interim.

yeah a little, he immediately offered to buy me a new one. he normally pimps a gmc safari van

if these things turn out to be genuine nsx-r wheels (which is damn well what it looks like) i may be able to turn em around for quite a bit more than i spent on them. so no powdercoating ;)

Nice car, good luck with it. I LOVE the nsx and hope to own one one day. Its probably right at the limit of what ill actually be able to afford in the near future. We have similar criteria, and the nsx seems to fit the bill.

I vote for a rear diffuser next.

O-kay after me calling science of speed and them calling taitec (iraq->arizona->japan) I was informed that taitec no longer produces the JGTC style exhaust OR my second choice, the GT lightweight center exit. SO after conferring with chris from sos Im now getting Cantrell concepts headers and their knockoff of the regular exit gtlw exhaust system. apparently cantrell's parts offer better power, better quality/fitment, and are less expensive. also ordered a scoop that replaces the stock intake silencer for a ram air effect which comes paired with a nice drop in filter. other items purchased included the taitec diffuser and an okuyama carbing rear strut brace. supposedly everything should be in in a few weeks. fun fun fun

ok endstate for today was both headers installed, o2's mounted and wired and every brace and bolt replaced and properly torqued, all in all i think i spent about 12 hours today and i had done a lot yesterday  anyway, all thats left is to punch the old cats (or wait for my new hi-flows) hang the exhaust and connect everything. after today it should be easy ;)

a few more pics for you guys, i was far more interested in doing the work than documenting it bt you can kinda get the idea.

BTW WE have a supercharged nsx with the same headers, cat delete pipes and the same exhaust(the Real JDM one) Idk the diff in them but it sounds amazing. Like a JGTC car. You will love every second of it.

JGTC car or a sportbike! its LOUD lol. the diff is better build materials the american one is a little heavier because of this. oh yeah, one of my injectors is stuck and dumping so we'll be stopped at a light and like 5 minutes later POW! lol its amusing. I think im getting fireballs too

Glad to see the parts going on! I actually just ordered the same headers and exhaust so im interested in hearing your feedback on the system. I ended up going with the high-flow cats though, don't want to piss off the wife too much when she's riding with me, lol.

Matt

i also went with high flows but chris didnt have them in stock and my stock cats were trashed sooo... anyway i love how it sounds at high and mid rpms and cruising you can still have a convo. at low rpms it sounds like the bastard child of a harley and a wrx. Im 90% sure this is because the exhaust path isint very long and im essentially running open pipes, we'll see how things sound with the random cats. also the build quality on this system is very good but the clearances are tight as hell! i had to re-drop the exhaust and fiddle the crap out of the hangars to get the cats in. anyway me and amfracing are going to try and put together a video soon for folks who havent seen it/heard it.

oh and matt, if you didnt order the AIS/UNI combo, grab em! it adds so much to the engines song, i found the ais alone was louder than some exhausts :P

Thanks for the info. I just picked up a brand new AIS on Prime for $165 shipped which rocked. I had an ARK system on the car when I first picked it up and it was definitely on the loud side. Im hoping its somewhat reasonable with the cats on.

annnd today i threw on the buddy club racing spec coilovers. these bad boys are rated at 10K front and 12K rear and offer 15 levels of adjustment. EXTRA SCARY with my crap tires I think its going to take a while to learn the car again. also i just ordered some nice little jdm goodies to hold me over until spring

id forgotten about the special kind of fear that comes from driving triple digit speeds on unlit two lane country roads with a stiff ass racing suspension. its a good feeling lol

Did you have your alignment done after the coilovers went on. That could be part of the instability at speed.

no instability, it actually feels very good. the issue is its a bumpy road with very strong springs and theres only so much a damper can do ;) though i am quite impressed with how well these dampers perform so far
