I'm completely re-doing my Journal because a lot has changed recently.

Let me start from the beginning. The first car I ever owned was a 1991 Nissan NX 2000. I hated that car. I tried so hard at blowing that thing up as an excuse for getting rid of it. It would constantly break but never stopped running.

It's sad, but true, a 2G Eclipse as always been my "dream car" for as long as I can remember. Of course, this was when I was around 14 years old and 2G's were selling brand new. My friends always commented on how "attainable" my dream was, since everyone else I knew dreamed about cars that were $100k+.

When I was 19, I picked up a 1998 Eclipse GST:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y32/jessgst/Talk/Turbo1.jpg

I loved this car. Once it reached the 300whp mark, I realized how much I wanted something AWD.

Two and a half years later I sold the GST and purchased a 1995 Eclipse GSX:

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n25/hergsx/GSX/8.jpg

After a lot of extensive work, I got it running great. I dynoed 402 awhp (http://static.flickr.com/114/281972440_9e82341aeb_o.jpg) on 23 pounds of boost and 93 octane. It went 11.51 @ 119.6 (http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/showthread.php?p=353195#post353195), also on pump gas.

This summer will be two years since I bought that car. It was fun while it lasted, but I just couldn't take all of it's imperfections. I needed another 2G in mint condition. So when I found a white shell in great condition, I had to have it.

Just some teaser pictures:

Yeah, I was pretty mad when the Evo came out because I had already bought my GST at that point. I had finally owned my "dream car" and then something else I wanted just as bad had to come out! I love Evo's, but I don't think I could ever sell my GSX. I would definitely love to have both though.

The clearcoat on the roof started fading. I went around to bodyshops getting quotes on a whole repaint, but it just wasn't worth spending that much money on a paint job I would always hate. Repaints never look as good as they do from the factory.

My Dad is a mechanic so when he built the garage he put in a thick floor and had the roof of the house completely raised for a lift. He stopped working on cars completely and never put the lift in. But when I started working on my car there, he had one put in so it would be "easier for me".

My black one was a lot of fun. I'm extremely excited about the new one.

where are the parts off the red gsx being parted to?

The white shell didn't come with a drivetrain, motor, and a lot of other parts. I'm using the motor and drivetrain out of the red 2g to put my black car back together.

Then my built motor/tranny and all my performance parts are going in the white car.

Yea Im looking into getting another DSM.. this time 97-99 GSX

Now to find a good one! :)

Good luck finding one. I know how hard it is to find one taken care of these days.

thats one stout block... surprised i dont hear about any cooling issues with them... or are there issues?

TrboChicsRock
05-29-2007, 09:59 AM
There are no real cooling issues as long as you keep ample airflow to the radiator. A lot of times people install huge frontmounts that block flow to the radiator and they can overheat.

The only other colling issue is pushing coolant at high boost, that's why I o-ringed the head.

Thank you very much! The motor/turbo/fuel setup is all pretty much brand new and I'm not worried about any of that. It's more so my drivetrain I'm worried about. Mainly the rear and the rear axles since they're still stock.

It's actually a 3 wheel drive. It has a rear LSD, but the front is an open diff. A front LSD is definitely on my list of things I want, but they're pretty expensive and I don't have the money for it after all of this. I'm pretty sure the ratio is 50/50 on these cars. That's what I've heard at least.

what the hell is up with your hood? please put some nice easy miles on that engine before you take it to the track!!!
are you coming to the meet tonight?

F-that, break it in hard. I think I took my car to the dyno to break it in, I might have put 0.5miles on it before hand.

Speaking of her b/f...Steve, did you get rid of the Evo?

11.2 @ 126 w/ a 1.79 60' and semi-lazy shifting. Jess has 60-footed as good as a 1.61 on those same tires, it's just a matter of getting everything else dialed in. We did just finish building the car last week....

I think she did extremely well for a shakedown day.

Just the boost controller broke Tim, not the car... And yes, I no longer have an Evo.

thats not bad at all....once she gets everything broken in/tuned/dialed in the way it should be she's got an easy mid 10 second car.

Agreed, the motor will take 35psi, the turbo should be able to supply close to that, and with a better 60' and flat shifitng, the car will go 10's.

The only thing that will hurt her is the added weight when she puts in a roll bar.

You guys rented the track or something? lol

Yeah it was a track rental. I'm not sure on the exact specs but the evo had some variant of the gt30 series turbos.

SuperHatch
08-03-2007, 06:10 PM
The Grey Evo is a stock blocked Evo IX MR, SBR GT3076 turbo kit, pump + meth, 26lbs of boost that day at the track, GSC cams/springs/retainers, it is also converted to a 5 speed. It's fastest run that day was a 11.3@125.

It made 440WHP on a mustang dyno at 29lbs, stock ECU flashed, I tuned it.

There is a few things I noticed I like about your car in the #226 pics. You kept the stock body because there is no reason to change it, no sure why 2Gs are riced out more than civics sometimes. And you took out that random black piece of plastic at the top of the mouth which blocks flow to the IC and just looks like ****. The hood pins have a clean look to them as well. Good work.

You only need a rollbar until you run quicker than 9.50(after that you will need a cage),but it has to have the side bars along the door which makes it annoying getting into the car if its something you drive alot.
