I have 23,000 miles on my Michelin Pilot Sports. I want to replace them with something around 100-150$ a piece. Has anyone tried the new Fuzion ZRi?
Or how about the Toyo Proxies? Tire Rack has the review section for the Fuzion but not the Toyo's. Anyway let me hear what is working for you.

Question...the stock summer tires that come with the Crossfire are Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's. I don't have them though because I got the stock all-season Continental tire. Are those the sports you have, and if so, what do you think of them? I was contemplating getting a set for regular driving and saving this set for winter before the tread is gone and I have to replace them anyway.

I have the regular Pilot sports. I am not to impressed with them. I drive like a grand mom and i got 23,000 mile out of them. Thier tread wear is like 200 which a soft compound so that explains it. I know i can get a tire with just as much performance if not better for less money. No way im going to pay $800 for tires.

i have the toyo proxes 4. they're a very nice tire. they hook really well, so well that i can't do a standing burn out anymore, they just drag me down the street now. they're good in the rain too. very little road noise as well. the one thing i will say is that they have a very soft side wall so i found that i had to raise the pressure in them to keep even tread wear.

Because of the tread pattern they'll chunk like crazy if you really get into them (auto-x). I was warned about this from a guy in a camaro that said they "shread" very easily. I figured it had to be different because of the size of his car. I was wrong. They shine in the rain though, I'll give them that. Also, you can't really hope to find a great "summer" tire and expect good tread life. If it's good in the summer it'll have to be soft.

actually the BFGoodrich G Force KDW2's have great ratings. Those are what I went with. I don't drive my car in the rain, never in snow. All out summer tire is what I was looking for.

dont get fuzion, they ****ing suck. i had a set of toyos on when i got my car, and it handled sooooo sweet, now i have these fuzions, and i sway all over the place. i cant wait till i have enough money to get new tires.

Kumho MX is a good affordable summer tire
Yokohama AVS ES100 is pretty good and pretty cheap
Falken Azenis rule on dry pavement and are pretty cheap but but arent very good in the rain and they will wear faster than most tires
Bridgestone S-03s rule all the time but they are a bit more expensive

if you have a set of wheels/tires you can use in the winter, definitley get dedicated summer tires... you'll love them :D

No offense, but is this your personal experience or are you regurgitating information you read elsewhere?

Seriously, rubbish. Azenis are good in the rain, and if you dont believe me then I'd love to compare autox times on a rainy day.

+1 for S03's. Best wet traction I have ever seen.
Then the KDW2's.

Honestly, My Hanncook Venturas have been good to me. Rain, dry, summer, winter, even snow when I didn't get my rims off in time. Only problem is fairly soft sidewall and they are slightly loud/rough. But they handle well and adapt nicely to the elements. I'm sure there is better but they are fairly inexpensive.

I have almost 21,000 miles on my azenis and they have plenty of meat left They are ok in the rain as long as you don't try to drive threw a big ass puddle at high speeds. Chris drove for like 45k or something crazy on them.

I bet you if we had posted race details here than an overwhelming opinion would also have said that I had no chance to beat you, right? ;)

Seriously, the reason most people say that is beacuse they drive through deep puddles in their near-bald azenis and expect them to grip. Given equal treaddepth, they're not much worse (IMO) than s03s and the like. I remember a few years back when solo2 nationals was rainy every day.. guess what tire carried 8 of the top ten spots? Hint, they weren't s03s...

I was going to pick up the S-03s, but TireRack decided to raise their price from $171 to $191 so they are out. The other 2 I am looking at are the F1s and the Azenis.

Anyone have reviews on them? Doesn't someone have the F1s on his M3?

If your talking about the Goodyear Eagle F1's i have heard alot of R-32 and 03/04 cobra owners complain about the sidewalls bubbling after hitting small potholes. The sidewalls on the F1's are thin compared to other tires in the same class. I am leaning toward the Proxies as of now.

I just got these put on my car, since I don't have the funds for a summer and winter set. Anyone else have any thoughts on these? They seem pretty decent, but I don't have the crappy RE92's for comparision (I got these mounted before driving the car.)

This was toward the Proxe 4's. If I had to pick one year-round tire I think that would be it.

Ahh I got the tires after reading the first page previously, so forgot two people had already commented on them. Thanks!
They seem to stick very well for an all-season tire, and noise is also really low as a bonus. Can't compare them to the stock WRX tires, but I'm happy.

thats what i'm saying - it's not an autox tire, not a summer tire, and especially not the FZ4, which everyone has had issues with... it is what it is and it's the best at it...

I have Azenis RT-615s on my car now. I bought them just to autocross, but they have been very good all around, so I am keeping them on my car. They do tend to tramline more than the Falken GrB-FK451's that I had last year. The FK451's while great in the rain were way too noisy for everyday use. My snows are quieter on dry pavement. If the noise is not an issue then look into the FK451's they can be had cheap.

Bringing this thread back up from the deep.

I am looking for something in 245/40/17. I want stiff sidewall and decient rain handling, but doesnt have to be great, ill just drive slow. Also would like good tread life. The stock advans only lasted 7 months, about 7,000 miles. I had a bad alignment from the factory and didnt notice, but it wasnt that bad to kill a set of tires that quickly.

Im thinking either the BF Goodrich g-force t/a kdw-2
Bridgestone potenza reo50a
falken azenis rt-615 (in 235/45/17)

Any suggestions or recommendations based on personal experience?

didn't read the last post, just instantly posted via the 1st post... sorry.

Heard that the Falkens are pretty sweet tires, the 512's are very nice, friend of mine has them on his car and I thought they.

i've had the kdw-2's and i thought that they were a great tire... i don't think though that you will find anything as responsive as the stock tires though...

I was deciding between the KDW-2 and Azenis RT-615's for this summer and yesterday placed an order on the Azenis. The Potenzas are more expensive, and I hear such great things about the Azenis, especially since I plan on autocrossing. I don't expect them to last me more than one season; if they do it's just a perk.
A friend is goign with RE050's but he has extra money to spend.

Thanks guys.

I think I am set on the Potenza reo50A pole positions. Been doing lots of reading up on tires and these seem to be the best tire for the price. I would love to go with the stock tires again but at 260 per I just cant afford them right now. I need somethi that will last a bit longer, I am willing to give up a bit of performance.

I just started using the Brigestone RE-01R and I love them so far. I only have the rears in 245/40R17 right now and when the fronts wear down more I will get them in the front also. Replaced a pair of Dunlop FM901's and so far I think the Potenza's have better traction in the dry and wet.

How is that working out? one of my other optins was to take the the two best tires from the two sets of advans I have and use them this season. I was worried about slightly different circumfrances burning out the center diff if the front and back wheels were traveling at different speeds.

The alignment from the factory destroyed my rear tires but the fronts were fine and one of the tires i got with the wheels I bought the side wall was ruined from a flat, but the other 3 were fine.

95nracer
04-05-2007, 04:30 PM
Well I don't have AWD and my rears wear out slightly faster. I've heard on AWD cars you have to have the same tires all around or you might damage your diffs. I don't know how true that is, but I haven't done that research on it.

I thought the Dunlops where ok. They would spin in the upper RPM's and the RE-O1R's stick a little better. With the 160 wear hopefully I can get 2 summers out of them.

I run a slight stagger in tires. 245 rear and 235 front.

hahaha, we're talking about street tires though. I know some people run them, Victoracers, etc on the street, even as dailys, but I'm not rich enough to replace them frequently. And I like driving in the rain when I have less than full tread.

But yeah... most people won't drive hard enough to even need Azenis, but for me they'll be just fine.
