I'm 21 and have lived here for about a year, when I first moved here ( the first day, actually ) I got into an accident and totaled my car + got a moving violation for it. The officer told me that I wouldn't be able to apply for a PA license and told me some bull**** about how you can't get a PA license unless you have a clean driving record for a year.

Now, today I get a call from my insurance telling me they will drop me if I don't get a PA license and fax a copy to them before november 1st. They also said the cop was full of **** and all I have to do is turn in my WA license and some copys of stuff like birth certificate and utility bill... Is that true? I have a lot of tickets and stuff, I think by PA law I would have my license suspended, but WA is way more lax.. What will happen if I try to get a PA license? I drive very careful now and have taken driver improvment courses. But I have a few tickets.. 2 for speeding ( 98 in a 65 and 60 in a 35 ) one for driving on the wrong side of the road, one for "driving at a speed not prudent for road conditions" ( was going the speed limit but it was icey ) one for unlawful speed contest, and one from a red light camera ( not sure if that counts as any points ) however, my last ticket was in January of 06 and I havn't gotten stopped since. Oh, I got some parking tickets though, but those don't even count.

the cop is full of it. You dont get your ish suspended for having an accident. :)

Just go to the DMV and apply for a new resident license. Its just a written test. Easy as pie.

Okay, I was reading and found a small problem..

Driver License Information for New Residents
How to Apply for a Non-Commercial Driver's License in PA

All new residents with out-of-state non-commercial driver's licenses must obtain a PA Driver’s License within 60 days of establishing Pennsylvania residency. To apply, you must appear in person at one of our Driver License Centers. You will be required to surrender your out-of-state driver’s license (valid or expired six months or less) before PennDOT can issue you a PA Driver's License. You will need to take a vision-screening test and complete the necessary forms, which are available at our Driver License Centers. In addition, you will need to show proof of identification and residency. Please visit our fees page for information on the fee for the product you will be requesting.

Although a knowledge test is not required for new residents with out-of-state driver's licenses which are valid or expired six months or less, The Pennsylvania Driver's Manual is designed to help you become a safe driver and enjoy your driving privilege in our beautiful state.

is that bad?

edit: sweet, no written test, just a vision test

They won't deny you a license based on that...it simply means that legally you should already have a PA license (hence why your insurance is hassling you).

I've been in PA a little over 3 years w/ my FL license. Both my cars are still registered in FL too. Then again, it helps that I still own my condo in FL.

is it true that if i get a "new" PA license instead of applying for reciprocity i get a clean driving record and my insurance will drop ?

i doubt it man. why would they drop you ? Unless you have a ridiculous amount of points and violations then I dont think that would happen.
